1 Perchè, Jahve, ti tieni lontano, ti celi nei tempi d’angustia?	1 Why, LORD, do you stand at a distance and pay no heed to these troubled times?
2 In orgoglio l’empio insegue il misero; lo coglie nella trama che ha ordito.	2 Arrogant scoundrels pursue the poor; they trap them by their cunning schemes.
3 Perchè si vanta l’empio della sua brama; lo strozzino si congratula fra sè. Sprezza Jahve,	3 The wicked even boast of their greed; these robbers curse and scorn the LORD.
4 l’empio, con alta arroganza: « Non vendicherà! Non c’è Dio ». Ecco tutti i suoi piani,	4 In their insolence the wicked boast: "God doesn't care, doesn't even exist."
5 riescono le sue strade in ogni tempo. Svoltano i tuoi giudizi al suo cospetto; tutti i suoi avversari li soffia via.	5 Yet their affairs always succeed; they ignore your judgment on high; they sneer at all who oppose them.
6 Disse nel suo cuore: « Non vacillerò! In generazione e generazione vado diritto senza disgrazie ».	6 They say in their hearts, "We will never fall; never will we see misfortune."
7 La sua bocca è ripiena di maledizione e di frodi e di violenza, sotto la sua lingua sta molestia e malizia.	7 Their mouths are full of oaths, violence, and lies; discord and evil are under their tongues.
8 Si pone in agguato presso i villaggi,di nascosto, per trafiggere l’innocente. I suoi occhi spiano il debole,	8 They wait in ambush near towns; their eyes watch for the helpless. to murder the innocent in secret.
9 insidia per depredare il misero. Insidia di nascosto come leone dentro la sua macchia, depreda il misero attirandolo nella sua rete,	9 They lurk in ambush like lions in a thicket, hide there to trap the poor, snare them and close the net.
10 balzando si china, si piega; e piomba con tutta la sua forza sui miseri,	10 The helpless are crushed, laid low; they fall into the power of the wicked,
11 Dice nel suo cuore: « Dio s’è scordato, ha nascosto la sua faccia e più non guarda ».	11 Who say in their hearts, "God pays no attention, shows no concern, never bothers to look."
12 Sorgi, Jahve, Dio, leva la tua mano, non dimenticarti dei miseri.	12 Rise up, LORD God! Raise your arm! Do not forget the poor!
13 Perchè l'empio dovrà sprezzare Dio, e dire nel suo cuore: « Non vendichera ».	13 Why should the wicked scorn God, say in their hearts, "God doesn't care"?
14 Vedi, proprio tu, l’iniquità e la molestia; considera, per ripagare di tua mano. Su te si affida il povero e l’orfano; tu sei l’aiuto.	14 But you do see; you do observe this misery and sorrow; you take the matter in hand. To you the helpless can entrust their cause; you are the defender of orphans.
15 Spezza il braccio dell’empio e del malvagio, punisci la sua empietà, più non ne resti.	15 Break the arms of the wicked and depraved; make them account for their crimes; let none of them survive.
16 Jahve regna in eterno e sempre; periscono le genti dalla sua terra,	16 The LORD is king forever; the nations have vanished from God's land.
17 La brama dei miseri tu ascolti, Jahve, al proposito del loro cuore tu porgi il tuo orecchio.	17 You listen, LORD, to the needs of the poor; you encourage them and hear their prayers.
18 Per far giustizia all’orfano e all’oppresso, più non incuterà terrore un mortale sulla terra.	18 You win justice for the orphaned and oppressed; no one on earth will cause terror again.
