Job 41

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 ¡Sería vana tu esperanza porque su vista sola aterra!	1 Any hope you might have would be futile, the mere sight of him would overwhelm you.
2 No hay audaz que lo despierte, ¿y quién podrá resistir ante él?	2 When roused, he grows ferocious, who could ever stand up to him?
3 ¿Quién le hizo frente y quedó salvo? ¡Ninguno bajo la capa de los cielos!	3 Who has ever attacked him with impunity? No one beneath al heaven!
4 Mencionaré también sus miembros, hablaré de su fuerza incomparable.	4 Next I wil talk of his limbs and describe his matchless strength-
5 ¿Quién rasgó la delantera de su túnica y penetró en su coraza doble?	5 who can undo the front of his tunic or pierce the double armour of his breastplate?
6 ¿Quién abrió las hojas de sus fauces? ¡Reina el terror entre sus dientes!	6 Who dare open the gates of his mouth? Terror reigns round his teeth!
7 Su dorso son hileras de escudos, que cierra un sello de piedra.	7 His back is like rows of shields, sealed with a stone seal,
8 Están apretados uno a otro, y ni un soplo puede pasar entre ellos.	8 touching each other so close that no breath could pass between,
9 Están pegados entre sí y quedan unidos sin fisura.	9 sticking to one another making an impervious whole.
10 Echa luz su estornudo, sus ojos son como los párpados de la aurora.	10 His sneezes radiate light, his eyes are like the eyelashes of the dawn.
11 Salen antorchas de sus fauces, chispas de fuego saltan.	11 From his mouth come fiery torches, sparks of fire fly out of it.
12 De sus narices sale humo, como de un caldero que hierve junto al fuego.	12 His nostrils belch smoke like a cauldron boiling on the fire.
13 Su soplo enciende carbones, una llama sale de su boca.	13 His breath could kindle coals, flame issues from his mouth.
14 En su cuello se asienta la fuerza, y ante él cunde el espanto.	14 His strength resides in his neck, violence leaps before him as he goes.
15 Son compactas las papadas de su carne: están pegadas a ella, inseparables.	15 The strips of his flesh are jointed together, firmly set in and immovable.
16 Su corazón es duro como roca, resistente como piedra de molino.	16 His heart is as hard as rock unyielding as the lower mil stone.
17 Cuando se yergue, se amedrentan las olas, y las ondas del mar se retiran.	17 When he stands up, the waves take fright and the bil ows of the sea retreat.
18 Le alcanza la espada sin clavarse, lo mismo la lanza, jabalina o dardo.	18 Sword may strike but will not stick in him, no more will spear, javelin or lance.
19 Para él e hierro es sólo paja, el bronce, madera carcomida.	19 Iron means no more to him than straw, nor bronze than rotten wood.
20 No le ahuyentan los disparos del arco, cual polvillo le llegan las piedras de la honda.	20 No arrow can make him flee, a sling-stone tickles him like hay.
21 Una paja le parece la maza, se ríe del venablo que silba.	21 Club seems to him like straw, he laughs at the whirring javelin.
22 Debajo de él tejas puntiagudas: un trillo que va pasando por el lodo.	22 He has sharp potsherds underneath, and moves across the slime like a harrow.
23 Hace del abismo una olla borbotante, cambia el mar en pebetero.	23 He makes the depths seethe like a cauldron, he makes the sea fume like a scent burner.
24 Deja tras sí una estela luminosa, el abismo diríase una melena blanca.	24 Behind him he leaves a glittering wake -- a white fleece seems to float on the deeps.
25 No hay en la tierra semejante a él, que ha sido hecho intrépido.	25 He has no equal on earth, being created without fear.
26 Mira a la cara a los más altos, es rey de todos los hijos del orgullo.	26 He looks the haughtiest in the eye; of al the lordly beasts he is king.
