1 ¡Sería vana tu esperanza porque su vista sola aterra!	1 Whoever might vainly hope to do so need only see him to be overthrown.
2 No hay audaz que lo despierte, ¿y quién podrá resistir ante él?	2 Is he not relentless when aroused; who then dares stand before him?
3 ¿Quién le hizo frente y quedó salvo? ¡Ninguno bajo la capa de los cielos!	3 Who has assailed him and come off safe-- Who under all the heavens?
4 Mencionaré también sus miembros, hablaré de su fuerza incomparable.	4 I need hardly mention his limbs, his strength, and the fitness of his armor.
5 ¿Quién rasgó la delantera de su túnica y penetró en su coraza doble?	5 Who can strip off his outer garment, or penetrate his double corselet?
6 ¿Quién abrió las hojas de sus fauces? ¡Reina el terror entre sus dientes!	6 Who can force open the doors of his mouth, close to his terrible teeth?
7 Su dorso son hileras de escudos, que cierra un sello de piedra.	7 Rows of scales are on his back, tightly sealed together;
8 Están apretados uno a otro, y ni un soplo puede pasar entre ellos.	8 They are fitted each so close to the next that no space intervenes;
9 Están pegados entre sí y quedan unidos sin fisura.	9 So joined one to another that they hold fast and cannot be parted.
10 Echa luz su estornudo, sus ojos son como los párpados de la aurora.	10 When he sneezes, light flashes forth; his eyes are like those of the dawn.
11 Salen antorchas de sus fauces, chispas de fuego saltan.	11 Out of his mouth go forth firebrands; sparks of fire leap forth.
12 De sus narices sale humo, como de un caldero que hierve junto al fuego.	12 From his nostrils issues steam, as from a seething pot or bowl.
13 Su soplo enciende carbones, una llama sale de su boca.	13 His breath sets coals afire; a flame pours from his mouth.
14 En su cuello se asienta la fuerza, y ante él cunde el espanto.	14 Strength abides in his neck, and terror leaps before him.
15 Son compactas las papadas de su carne: están pegadas a ella, inseparables.
16 Su corazón es duro como roca, resistente como piedra de molino.	16 His heart is hard as stone; his flesh, as the lower millstone.
17 Cuando se yergue, se amedrentan las olas, y las ondas del mar se retiran.	17 When he rises up, the mighty are afraid; the waves of the sea fall back.
18 Le alcanza la espada sin clavarse, lo mismo la lanza, jabalina o dardo.	18 Should the sword reach him, it will not avail; nor will the spear, nor the dart, nor the javelin.
19 Para él e hierro es sólo paja, el bronce, madera carcomida.	19 He regards iron as straw, and bronze as rotten wood.
20 No le ahuyentan los disparos del arco, cual polvillo le llegan las piedras de la honda.	20 The arrow will not put him to flight; slingstones used against him are but straws.
21 Una paja le parece la maza, se ríe del venablo que silba.	21 Clubs he esteems as splinters; he laughs at the crash of the spear.
22 Debajo de él tejas puntiagudas: un trillo que va pasando por el lodo.	22 His belly is sharp as pottery fragments; he spreads like a threshing sledge upon the mire.
23 Hace del abismo una olla borbotante, cambia el mar en pebetero.	23 He makes the depths boil like a pot; the sea he churns like perfume in a kettle.
24 Deja tras sí una estela luminosa, el abismo diríase una melena blanca.	24 Behind him he leaves a shining path; you would think the deep had the hoary head of age.
25 No hay en la tierra semejante a él, que ha sido hecho intrépido.	25 Upon the earth there is not his like, intrepid he was made.
26 Mira a la cara a los más altos, es rey de todos los hijos del orgullo.	26 All, however lofty, fear him; he is king over all proud beasts.
