Jesus Sirach 35

1 Viele Opfer bringt dar, wer das Gesetz befolgt;	1 He who keeps the law makes many offerings; he who heeds the commandments sacrifices a peace offering.
2 Heilsopfer spendet, wer die Gebote hält;	2 He who returns a kindness offers fine flour, and he who gives alms sacrifices a thank offering.
3 Speiseopfer bringt dar, wer Liebe erweist;	3 To keep from wickedness is pleasing to the Lord, and to forsake unrighteousness is atonement.
4 Dankopfer spendet, wer Almosen gibt:	4 Do not appear before the Lord empty-handed,
5 Abkehr vom Bösen findet das Gefallen des Herrn: als Sühne gilt ihm die Abkehr vom Unrecht.	5 for all these things are to be done because of the commandment.
6 Erscheine nicht mit leeren Händen vor dem Herrn,	6 The offering of a righteous man anoints the altar, and its pleasing odor rises before the Most High.
7 denn das alles muss geschehen, weil es angeordnet ist.	7 The sacrifice of a righteous man is acceptable, and the memory of it will not be forgotten.
8 Die Opfergabe des Gerechten macht den Altar glänzend von Fett und ihr Wohlgeruch steigt zum Höchsten auf.	8 Glorify the Lord generously, and do not stint the first fruits of your hands.
9 Das Opfer des Gerechten ist angenehm, sein Gedenkopfer wird nicht vergessen werden.	9 With every gift show a cheerful face, and dedicate your tithe with gladness.
10 Freigebig ehre den Herrn, nicht gering sei die Gabe in deinen Händen.	10 Give to the Most High as he has given, and as generously as your hand has found.
11 Bei all deinen guten Werken zeig ein frohes Gesicht und weihe deinen Zehnten mit Freude!	11 For the Lord is the one who repays, and he will repay you sevenfold.
12 Wie Gott dir gegeben hat, so gib auch ihm, freigebig und so gut, wie du kannst.	12 Do not offer him a bribe, for he will not accept it; and do not trust to an unrighteous sacrifice; for the Lord is the judge, and with him is no partiality.
13 Denn er ist ein Gott, der vergilt, siebenfach wird er es dir erstatten.	13 He will not show partiality in the case of a poor man; and he will listen to the prayer of one who is wronged.
14 Versuche nicht, ihn zu bestechen, denn er nimmt nichts an;	14 He will not ignore the supplication of the fatherless, nor the widow when she pours out her story.
15 vertrau nicht auf Opfergaben, die durch Unterdrückung erworben sind. Er ist ja der Gott des Rechts, bei ihm gibt es keine Begünstigung.	15 Do not the tears of the widow run down her cheek as she cries out against him who has caused them to fall?
16 Er ist nicht parteiisch gegen den Armen, das Flehen des Bedrängten hört er.	16 He whose service is pleasing to the Lord will be accepted, and his prayer will reach to the clouds.
17 Er missachtet nicht das Schreien der Waise und der Witwe, die viel zu klagen hat.	17 The prayer of the humble pierces the clouds, and he will not be consoled until it reaches the Lord; he will not desist until the Most High visits him, and does justice for the righteous, and executes judgment.
18 Rinnt nicht die Träne über die Wange	18 And the Lord will not delay, neither will he be patient with them, till he crushes the loins of the unmerciful and repays vengeance on the nations; till he takes away the multitude of the insolent, and breaks the scepters of the unrighteous;
19 und klagt nicht Seufzen gegen den, der sie verursacht? [Denn von der Wange steigt sie zum Himmel empor; der Herr achtet darauf und es missfällt ihm.]	19 till he repays the man according to his deeds, and the works of men according to their devices; till he judges the case of his people and makes them rejoice in his mercy.
20 Die Nöte des Unterdrückten nehmen ein Ende, das Schreien des Elenden verstummt.	20 Mercy is as welcome when he afflicts them as clouds of rain in the time of drought.
21 Das Flehen des Armen dringt durch die Wolken, es ruht nicht, bis es am Ziel ist. Es weicht nicht, bis Gott eingreift
22 und Recht schafft als gerechter Richter. Auch wird der Herr nicht säumen und wie ein Kriegsheld sich nicht aufhalten lassen, bis er die Hüften des Gewalttätigen zerschmettert
23 und an den Völkern Vergeltung geübt hat, bis er das Zepter des Hochmuts zerschlagen und den Stab des Frevels zerbrochen hat,
24 bis er dem Menschen sein Tun vergolten hat und seine Taten entsprechend seinen Absichten,
25 bis er den Rechtsstreit für sein Volk entschieden und es durch seine Hilfe erfreut hat.
26 Köstlich ist das Erbarmen des Herrn in der Zeit der Not, wie die Regenwolke in der Zeit der Dürre.
