1 Gesù vista quella turba, salì sopra un monte: ed essendosi egli posto a sedere, si accostarono a lui i suoi discepoli.	1 Seeing the crowds, he went onto the mountain. And when he was seated his disciples came to him.
2 È aperta la sua bocca gli ammaestrava dicendo:	2 Then he began to speak. This is what he taught them:
3 Beati i poveri di spirito: perché di questi è il regno de' cieli.	3 How blessed are the poor in spirit: the kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
4 Beati i mansueti: perché questi possederanno la terra,	4 Blessed are the gentle: they shal have the earth as inheritance.
5 Beati coloro, che piangono: perchè questi saran consolati.	5 Blessed are those who mourn: they shal be comforted.
6 Beati quelli, che hanno fame, e sete della giustizia: perché questi saranno satollati.	6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for uprightness: they shal have their fil .
7 Beati i misericordiosi: perché questi troveranno misericordia.	7 Blessed are the merciful: they shal have mercy shown them.
8 Beati coloro, che hanno il cuor puro: perché questi vedranno Dio.	8 Blessed are the pure in heart: they shal see God.
9 Beati i pacifici: perché saranno chiamati figli di Dio.	9 Blessed are the peacemakers: they shal be recognised as children of God.
10 Beati quei, che soffrono persecuzione per amore della giustizia: perché di questi è il regno de' cieli.	10 Blessed are those who are persecuted in the cause of uprightness: the kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
11 Beati siete voi, quando gli uomini vi malediranno, e vi perseguiteranno, e diranno di voi falsamente ogni male per causa mia.	11 'Blessed are you when people abuse you and persecute you and speak al kinds of calumny againstyou falsely on my account.
12 Rallegratevi, ed esultate: perché grande è la vostra ricompensa ne' cieli: imperocché cosi hanno perseguitato i profeti, che sono stati prima di voi.	12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven; this is how they persecuted the prophetsbefore you.
13 Voi siete il sale della terra. Che se il sale diventa scipito, con che si salerà egli? E' non è più buono a nulla, se non ad esser, gettato via, e calpestato dalla gente.	13 'You are salt for the earth. But if salt loses its taste, what can make it salty again? It is good fornothing, and can only be thrown out to be trampled under people's feet.
14 Voi siete la luce del mondo. Non può essere ascosa una città situata sopra di un monte.	14 'You are light for the world. A city built on a hil -top cannot be hidden.
15 Né accendono la lucerna, e la mettono sotto il moggio, ma sopra il candeliere, affinchè faccia lume a tutta la gente di casa:	15 No one lights a lamp to put it under a tub; they put it on the lamp-stand where it shines for everyone inthe house.
16 Così risplenda la vostra luce dinanzi agli uomini, affinchè veggano le vostre buone opere, e glorifichino il vostro Padre, che è ne' cieli.	16 In the same way your light must shine in people's sight, so that, seeing your good works, they maygive praise to your Father in heaven.
17 Non vi deste a credere, che io sia venuto per isciogliere la legge, o i profeti: non son venuto per iscioglierla, ma per adempirla.	17 'Do not imagine that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but tocomplete them.
18 Imperocché in verità vi dico, che se non passa il cielo, e la terra, non iscatterà un jota, o un punto solo della legge, sino a tanto che tutto sia adempito.	18 In truth I tell you, till heaven and earth disappear, not one dot, not one little stroke, is to disappear fromthe Law until al its purpose is achieved.
19 Chiunque pertanto violerà uno di questi comandamenti minimi, e così insegnerà agli uomini, sarà chiamato minimo nel regno de' cieli: ma colui, che avrà e operato, e insegnato, questi sarà tenuto grande nel regno de' cieli.	19 Therefore, anyone who infringes even one of the least of these commandments and teaches others todo the same wil be considered the least in the kingdom of Heaven; but the person who keeps them and teachesthem wil be considered great in the kingdom of Heaven.
20 Imperocché io vi dico, che se la vostra giustizia non sarà più abbondante, che quella degli Scribi, e Farisei, non entrerete nel regno dei cieli.	20 'For I tell you, if your uprightness does not surpass that of the scribes and Pharisees, you wil neverget into the kingdom of Heaven.
21 Avete sentito, che è stato detto agli antichi: Non ammazzare: e chiunque avrà ammazzato, sarà reo in giudizio.	21 'You have heard how it was said to our ancestors, You shal not kil ; and if anyone does kil he mustanswer for it before the court.
22 Ma io vi dico, che chiunque adirerà contro del suo fratello, sarà ito in giudizio. E chi avrà detto al suo fratello raca, sarà reo nel consesso. E chi gli avrà detto stolto, sarà reo del fuoco della gehenna.	22 But I say this to you, anyone who is angry with a brother wil answer for it before the court; anyone whocal s a brother "Fool" wil answer for it before the Sanhedrin; and anyone who cal s him "Traitor" wil answer for it in hel fire.
23 Se adunque tu stai per fare l'offerta all'altare, e ivi ti viene alla memoria, che il tuo fratello ha qualche cosa contro di te:	23 So then, if you are bringing your offering to the altar and there remember that your brother hassomething against you,
24 Posa lì la tua offerta davanti all'altare, e va' a riconciliarti prima col tuo fratello: e poi ritorna a dare la tua offerta.	24 leave your offering there before the altar, go and be reconciled with your brother first, and then comeback and present your offering.
25 Accordati presto col tuo avversario, mentre sei con lui per istrada: affinchè per disgrazia il tuo avversario non ti ponga in mano del giudice: e il giudice in mano del ministro; e tu venga cacciato in prigione.	25 Come to terms with your opponent in good time while you are stil on the way to the court with him, orhe may hand you over to the judge and the judge to the officer, and you wil be thrown into prison.
26 Ti dico in verità: non uscirai di qui prima d'aver pagato sino all'ultimo picciolo.	26 In truth I tell you, you wil not get out til you have paid the last penny.
27 Avete sentito, che fu detto agli antichi: Non fare adulterio.	27 'You have heard how it was said, You shall not commit adultery.
28 Ma io vi dico, che chiunque guarda una donna per desiderarla, ha già commesso in cuor suo adulterio con essa.	28 But I say this to you, if a man looks at a woman lustfully, he has already committed adultery with her inhis heart.
29 Che se il tuo occhio destro ti scandalizza, cavalo, e gettalo da te; imperocché è meglio per te, che perisca uno de' tuoi membri, che esser buttato tutto il tuo corpo nell'inferno.	29 If your right eye should be your downfal , tear it out and throw it away; for it wil do you less harm tolose one part of yourself than to have your whole body thrown into hell.
30 E se la tua mano destra ti scandalizza, troncala, e gettala lungi da te: imperocché è meglio per te, che perisca uno de' tuoi membri, che andare tutto il tuo corpo nell'inferno.	30 And if your right hand should be your downfall, cut it off and throw it away; for it wil do you less harmto lose one part of yourself than to have your whole body go to hel .
31 E stato pur detto: Chiunque rimanda la propria moglie, le dia il libello di ripudio.	31 'It has also been said, Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a writ of dismissal.
32 Ma io vi dico, che chiunque rimanda la sua moglie, eccetto per ragion di adulterio, la fa divenire adultera: e chi sposa la donna ripudiata, commetta adulterio.	32 But I say this to you, everyone who divorces his wife, except for the case of an il icit marriage, makesher an adulteress; and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
33 Slmilmente avete udito, che è stato detto agli antichi: Non violare il giuramento: ma rendi al Signore quanto hai giurato.	33 'Again, you have heard how it was said to our ancestors, You must not break your oath, but must fulfilyour oaths to the Lord.
34 Ma io vi dico di non giurare in modo alcuno, né pel cielo, perché è il trono di Dio:	34 But I say this to you, do not swear at al , either by heaven, since that is God's throne;
35 Né per la terra, perché è lo sgabello de' piedi di lui: né per Gerusalemme, perché ella è la Città del gran Re.	35 or by earth, since that is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, since that is the city of the great King.
36 Né giurerai per la tua testa, atteso che tu non puoi far bianco, o nero uno de' tuoi capelli.	36 Do not swear by your own head either, since you cannot turn a single hair white or black.
37 Ma sia il vostro parlare: si sì: no no; imperocché il di più vien da cosa mala.	37 All you need say is "Yes" if you mean yes, "No" if you mean no; anything more than this comes from the Evil One.
38 Avete udito, che è stato detto: Occhio per occhio, e dente per dente.	38 'You have heard how it was said: Eye for eye and tooth for tooth.
39 Ma io vi dico di non resistere al male: ma a chi ti percuoterà nella destra guancia, presentagli anche l'altra.	39 But I say this to you: offer no resistance to the wicked. On the contrary, if anyone hits you on the rightcheek, offer him the other as wel ;
40 E a colui, che vuol muoverti lite e toglierti la tua tonaca, cedigli anche il mantello:	40 if someone wishes to go to law with you to get your tunic, let him have your cloak as well.
41 E se uno ti strascinerà a correre per un miglio, va' con esso anche altre due miglia.	41 And if anyone requires you to go one mile, go two miles with him.
42 Da' a chiunque ti chiede: e non rivolger la faccia da chi vuoi chiederti in prestito qualche cosa.	42 Give to anyone who asks you, and if anyone wants to borrow, do not turn away.
43 Avete udito, che fu detto: Amerai il prossimo tuo, e odierai il tuo nemico.	43 'You have heard how it was said, You wil love your neighbour and hate your enemy.
44 Ma io vi dico: Amate i vostri nemici: fate del bene a coloro, che vi odiano; e orate per coloro, che vi perseguitano, e vi calunniano:	44 But I say this to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you;
45 Affinchè siate figli del Padre vostro, che è ne' cieli, il quale fa, che levisi il suo sole sopra i buoni, e sopra i cattivi; e manda la pioggia pe' giusti, e per gl'iniqui.	45 so that you may be children of your Father in heaven, for he causes his sun to rise on the bad as wellas the good, and sends down rain to fal on the upright and the wicked alike.
46 Imperocché, se amerete coloro, che vi amano, che premio avrete voi? non fanno eglino altrettanto anche i pubblicani?	46 For if you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Do not even the tax col ectors do asmuch?
47 E se saluterete solo i vostri fratelli, cosa fate di più (degli altri) non fann'eglino altrettanto i gentili?	47 And if you save your greetings for your brothers, are you doing anything exceptional?
48 Siate adunque voi perfetti, comeè perfetto il Padre vostro, che è ne' cieli.	48 Do not even the gentiles do as much? You must therefore be perfect, just as your heavenly Father isperfect.'
