1 E si accostarono a lui dei Farisei e dei Sadducei, e, per tentarlo, lo pregarono a mostrar loro un segno dal cielo.	1 And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to test him they asked him to show them a sign from heaven.
2 Ma egli rispose loro: la sera voi dite: bel tempo, perchè il cielo rosseggia;	2 He answered them, "When it is evening, you say, 'It will be fair weather; for the sky is red.'
3 e la mattina: oggi tempesta, perchè il cielo rosseggia cupo.	3 And in the morning, 'It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening.' You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.
4 Sapete dunque distinguere l'aspetto del cielo e non arrivate a distinguere i segni dei tempi? Questa generazione malvagia e adultera chiede un segno! e non le sarà dato che quello del profeta Giona. E lasciatili, se ne andò.	4 An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign shall be given to it except the sign of Jonah." So he left them and departed.
5 I suoi discepoli, passando all'altra riva, s'erano dimenticati di prendere il pane.	5 When the disciples reached the other side, they had forgotten to bring any bread.
6 E Gesù disse loro: State attenti e guardatevi dal lievito dei Farisei e dei Sadducei.	6 Jesus said to them, "Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees."
7 Ma essi andavano pensando dentro di sè e dicevano: Non abbiamo preso pane.	7 And they discussed it among themselves, saying, "We brought no bread."
8 Ciò conoscendo, Gesù disse: Perchè mai andate pensando dentro di voi, o gente di poca fede, di non aver pane?	8 But Jesus, aware of this, said, "O men of little faith, why do you discuss among yourselves the fact that you have no bread?
9 Non capite ancora e non vi ricordate dei cinque pani per cinquemila uomini, e quanti panieri ne raccoglieste?	9 Do you not yet perceive? Do you not remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets you gathered?
10 Nè dei sette pani per quattromila, e quante ceste ne portaste via?	10 Or the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets you gathered?
11 Come non capite che non per il pane v'ho detto: guardatevi dal lievito dei Farisei e dei Sadducei?	11 How is it that you fail to perceive that I did not speak about bread? Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees."
12 Allora capirono che non aveva loro detto di guardarsi dal lievito del pane; ma dalla dottrina dei Farisei e dei Sadducei.	12 Then they understood that he did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
13 Venuto poi Gesù nelle parti di Cesarea di Filippo, domandò ai suoi discepoli: La gente che dice mai che sia il Figlio dell'uomo?	13 Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do men say that the Son of man is?"
14 Ed essi risposero: Chi Giovanni Battista; chi Elia; chi Geremia, od uno dei profeti.	14 And they said, "Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
15 Dice loro Gesù: Ma voi chi dite ch'io sia?	15 He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"
16 Rispondendo Simon Pietro disse: Tu sei il Cristo, Figlio del Dio vivente.	16 Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."
17 E Gesù gli replicò: Te beato, o Simone, figlio di Giona, perchè non la carne nè il sangue te l'ha rivelato; ma il Padre mio che è nei cieli.	17 And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jona! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.
18 Ed io ti dico che tu sei Pietro, e su questa pietra edificherò la mia Chiesa, e le porte dell'inferno mai prevarranno contro di lei.	18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it.
19 E a te darò le chiavi del regno dei cieli: e qualunque cosa avrai legata sulla terra, sarà legata anche nei cieli; e qualunque cosa avrai sciolta sulla terra, sarà sciolta anche nei cieli.	19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."
20 Allora comandò ai suoi discepoli di non dire ad alcuno che egli era Gesù, il Cristo.	20 Then he strictly charged the disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ.
21 Da quell'ora Gesù cominciò a palesare ai suoi discepoli come dovesse andare a Gerusalemme e molto soffrire dagli anziani, dagli Scribi e dai principi dei sacerdoti, ed essere ucciso e risuscitare il terzo giorno.	21 From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.
22 Ma Pietro, trattolo in disparte, cominciò a rimproverarlo, dicendo: Non sia mai vero, Signore; simil cosa non t'avverrà giammai.	22 And Peter took him and began to rebuke him, saying, "God forbid, Lord! This shall never happen to you."
23 Ma Gesù rivoltosi disse a Pietro: Vattene via da me, Satana; tu mi sei di scandalo, perchè non senti quel che è di Dio, ma quel che è degli uomini.	23 But he turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me; for you are not on the side of God, but of men."
24 Allora Gesù disse ai suoi discepoli: Se uno vuol venire dietro a me, rinneghi se stesso, prenda la sua croce e mi segua.	24 Then Jesus told his disciples, "If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
25 Poichè chi vorrà salvare la sua vita, la perderà e chi sacrificherà la sua vita, per amor mio, la troverà.	25 For whoever would save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
26 Che giova mai all'uomo guadagnare tutto il mondo, se poi perde l'anima? E che darà l'uomo in cambio dell'anima sua?	26 For what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life? Or what shall a man give in return for his life?
27 Il Figlio dell'uomo infatti verrà nella gloria del Padre suo con i suoi angeli, e allora renderà a ciascuno secondo le opere sue.	27 For the Son of man is to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay every man for what he has done.
28 In verità vi dico, che tra i qui presenti vi sono di quelli che non morranno, prima che vedano il Figlio dell'uomo venire nel suo regno.	28 Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom."
