| 1 Or quando Abramo entrò nei novantanove anni, gli apparve il Signore e gli disse: « Io sono l'iddio Onnipotente, cammina alla mia presenza e sii perfetto: | 1 When Abram was ninety-nine years old the LORD appeared to Abram, and said to him, "I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless. |
| 2 ed io stabilirò la mia alleanza fra me e te, e ti moltiplicherò straordinariamente ». | 2 And I will make my covenant between me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly." |
| 3 Abramo si prostrò bocconi per terra. | 3 Then Abram fell on his face; and God said to him, |
| 4 E Dio gli disse: « Io sono: ecco il mio patto con te: tu sarai padre di molte genti. | 4 "Behold, my covenant is with you, and you shall be the father of a multitude of nations. |
| 5 Quindi non sarai più chiamato Abramo; ma Abrahamo, perchè io ti ho destinato a padre di molte genti. | 5 No longer shall your name be Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations. |
| 6 E ti moltiplicherò straordinariamente, e ti farò padre di popoli, e da te usciranno dei re. | 6 I will make you exceedingly fruitful; and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come forth from you. |
| 7 Ed io stabilirò il mio patto fra me e te e la tua progenie dopo di te nelle sue generazioni, con alleanza eterna, in modo che io sia Dio tuo e della tua progenie dopo di te. | 7 And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your descendants after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your descendants after you. |
| 8 E a te e alla tua progenie darò la terra dove stai come straniero, tutta la terra di Canaan in eterno dominio ed io sarò loro Dio ». | 8 And I will give to you, and to your descendants after you, the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God." |
| 9 Poi disse Dio ad Abramo: «Anche tu però osserverai il mio patto, e così la tua progenie dopo di te nelle sue generazioni. | 9 And God said to Abraham, "As for you, you shall keep my covenant, you and your descendants after you throughout their generations. |
| 10 E il patto mio che osserverete, il patto fra me e voi e la tua progenie dopo di te, è questo: sarà tra voi circonciso ogni maschio. | 10 This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your descendants after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised. |
| 11 Voi dunque circonciderete la carne del vostro prepuzio in segno del patto fra me e voi. | 11 You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and you. |
| 12 Quando ha otto giorni ogni bambino maschio sarà tra voi circonciso, di generazione in generazione, tanto quello nato in casa quanto quello comprato, anche se non è della vostra stirpe sarà circonciso. | 12 He that is eight days old among you shall be circumcised; every male throughout your generations, whether born in your house, or bought with your money from any foreigner who is not of your offspring, |
| 13 E il mio patto segnato nella vostra carne diverrà alleanza sempiterna. | 13 both he that is born in your house and he that is bought with your money, shall be circumcised. So shall my covenant be in your flesh an everlasting covenant. |
| 14 Ed ogni maschio che avrà incirconcisa la carne del prepuzio sarà sterminato dal suo popolo, perchè ha violato il mio patto ». | 14 Any uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin shall be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant." |
| 15 Disse ancora Dio ad Abramo: « Sarai tua moglie non la chiamar più Sarai, ma Sara; | 15 And God said to Abraham, "As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name. |
| 16 io la benedirò e da lei ti darò un figlio a cui darò la benedizione, ed egli sarà capo di nazioni, e da lui usciranno re di popoli ». | 16 I will bless her, and moreover I will give you a son by her; I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of peoples shall come from her." |
| 17 Abramo si gettò bocconi per terra, e rise, dicendo in cuo suo: «Possibile che nasca un figlio ad un uomo di cento anni, e che Sara partorisca a novanta? » | 17 Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed, and said to himself, "Shall a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old? Shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?" |
| 18 Poi disse a Dio: « Potesse almeno vivere Ismaele dinanzi a te! » | 18 And Abraham said to God, "O that Ishmael might live in thy sight!" |
| 19 E Dio rispose ad Abramo: «Proprio Sara tua moglie ti partorirà un figliolo, e gli porrai nome Isacco, ed io stabilirò il mio patto con lui e colla sua progenie dopo di lui con una alleanza perpetua. | 19 God said, "No, but Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him. |
| 20 Ma anche riguardo a Ismaele ti ho esaudito: lo benedirò, lo renderò fecondo, lo moltiplicherò grandemente; ed egli genererà dodici principi, ed io lo farò divenire un gran popolo. | 20 As for Ishmael, I have heard you; behold, I will bless him and make him fruitful and multiply him exceedingly; he shall be the father of twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation. |
| 21 Ma il mio patto lo stabilirò con Isacco, che Sara ti partorirà in questo tempo l'anno venturo ». | 21 But I will establish my covenant with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you at this season next year." |
| 22 E come ebbe finito di parlare, Dio, levandosi in alto, lasciò Abramo. | 22 When he had finished talking with him, God went up from Abraham. |
| 23 Prese adunque Abramo il suo figlio Ismaele e tutti i servi natigli in casa, e tutti quelli che aveva comprati, tutti i maschi di casa sua e li circoncise subito, in quello stesso giorno, come Dio gli aveva ordinato. | 23 Then Abraham took Ishmael his son and all the slaves born in his house or bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham's house, and he circumcised the flesh of their foreskins that very day, as God had said to him. |
| 24 Abramo aveva novantanove anni quando si circoncise, | 24 Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. |
| 25 ed Ismaele, quando fu circonciso, aveva tredici anni. | 25 And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. |
| 26 Abramo e Ismaele furon circoncisi nello stesso giorno. | 26 That very day Abraham and his son Ishmael were circumcised; |
| 27 E furono parimenti circoncisi tutti gli uomini della sua casa, tanto quelli che vi eran nati, quanto i comprati e gli stranieri. | 27 and all the men of his house, those born in the house and those bought with money from a foreigner, were circumcised with him. |
