Levitico 26

1 - Io il Signore Dio vostro. Non vi farete idolo nè scultura; non erigerete pilastri, nè porrete nella vostra terra segnali cospicui per adorarli. Son io infatti il Signore Dio vostro.	1 "Do not make false gods for yourselves. You shall not erect an idol or a sacred pillar for yourselves, nor shall you set up a stone figure for worship in your land; for I, the LORD, am your God.
2 Osservate i miei sabati, ed accostatevi con timore al mio santuario. Io il Signore.	2 Keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary. I am the LORD.
3 Se camminerete secondo i miei precetti, se osserverete i miei comandamenti e li eseguirete, io vi darò le piogge ai loro tempi,	3 "If you live in accordance with my precepts and are careful to observe my commandments,
4 la terra darà i suoi prodotti, e gli alberi saranno pieni di frutti;	4 I will give you rain in due season, so that the land will bear its crops, and the trees their fruit;
5 la battitura delle mèssi durerà sino alla vendemmia, e la vendemmia sino alla sementa; mangerete del vostro pane a sazietà, e senza paura abiterete nella vostra terra.	5 your threshing will last till vintage time, and your vintage till the time for sowing, and you will have food to eat in abundance, so that you may dwell securely in your land.
6 Farò esser pace ne' vostri possessi; dormirete, nè vi sarà chi vi metta spavento. Vi libererò dalle bestie feroci, e la guerra non entrerà nei vostri confini.	6 I will establish peace in the land, that you may lie down to rest without anxiety. I will rid the country of ravenous beasts, and keep the sword of war from sweeping across your land.
7 Inseguirete i vostri nemici, e cadranno innanzi a voi;	7 You will rout your enemies and lay them low with your sword.
8 cinque de' vostri metteranno in fuga cento di fuori, e cento di voi diecimila di loro; i vostri nemici periranno di spada dinanzi a voi.	8 Five of you will put a hundred of your foes to flight, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand of them, till they are cut down by your sword.
9 Guarderò a voi, e vi farò crescere; vi moltiplicherete, ed io raffermerò con voi il mio patto.	9 I will look with favor upon you, and make you fruitful and numerous, as I carry out my covenant with you.
10 Mangerete del vecchio e del vecchissimo, ed al sopravvenire del nuovo butterete via il vecchio.	10 So much of the old crops will you have stored up for food that you will have to discard them to make room for the new.
11 Porrò in mezzo a voi la mia dimora, e l'anima mia non si rifletterà.	11 I will set my Dwelling among you, and will not disdain you.
12 Camminerò in mezzo a voi; io sarò il vostro Dio, e voi il mio popolo.	12 Ever present in your midst, I will be your God, and you will be my people;
13 Io il Signore Dio vostro, che vi condussi via dalla terra degli Egiziani affinchè non foste più loro schiavi e che spezzai le catene dal vostro collo, acciò camminaste a testa alta.	13 for it is I, the LORD, your God, who brought you out of the land of the Egyptians and freed you from their slavery, breaking the yoke they had laid upon you and letting you walk erect.
14 Ma se non mi ascolterete, se non farete tutto quello ch'io v'ho comandato,	14 "But if you do not heed me and do not keep all these commandments,
15 se disprezzerete le mie leggi, e non terrete conto dei miei ordini, non facendo quello che io ho stabilito, e rendendo inutile il mio patto con voi,	15 if you reject my precepts and spurn my decrees, refusing to obey all my commandments and breaking my covenant,
16 io allora farò con voi così: Vi visiterò prontamente con l'angustia e con un fuoco che v'abbruci gli occhi, e vi consumi la vita. Invano seminerete, perchè la vostra semente sarà divorata dagli avversari.	16 then I, in turn, will give you your deserts. I will punish you with terrible woes--with wasting and fever to dim the eyes and sap the life. You will sow your seed in vain, for your enemies will consume the crop.
17 Vi guarderò sdegnato; cadrete davanti ai vostri nemici, e sarete soggiogati da quelli che vi odiano; vi darete alla fuga senza che nessuno v'insegua.	17 I will turn against you, till you are beaten down before your enemies and lorded over by your foes. You will take to flight though no one pursues you.
18 Se poi anche allora non m'obbedirete, crescerò sette volte i castighi dei vostri peccati,	18 "If even after this you do not obey me, I will increase the chastisement for your sins sevenfold,
19 e spezzerò la durezza della vostra superbia. Farò che il cielo sopra voi sia come di ferro, e la terra come di bronzo;	19 to break your haughty confidence. I will make the sky above you as hard as iron, and your soil as hard as bronze,
20 le vostre fatiche saranno gettate invano; la terra non germoglierà e gli alberi non daranno frutto.	20 so that your strength will be spent in vain; your land will bear no crops, and its trees no fruit.
21 Se vi metterete in contrasto con me, e non mi vorrete ascoltare, aumenterò del settuplo le vostre piaghe pei vostri peccati;	21 "If then you become defiant in your unwillingness to obey me, I will multiply my blows another sevenfold, as your sins deserve.
22 manderò contro di voi le fiere della campagna che divoreranno voi ed il vostro bestiame, vi ridurranno tutti a piccol numero e renderanno deserte le vostre strade.	22 I will unleash the wild beasts against you, to rob you of your children and wipe out your livestock, till your population dwindles away and your roads become deserted.
23 Che se neanche allora vorrete ricevere la correzione, ma vi moverete contro di me,	23 "If, with all this, you still refuse to be chastened by me and continue to defy me,
24 anch'io mi moverò contro di voi, e vi percoterò sette volte più pei vostri peccati.	24 I, too, will defy you and will smite you for your sins seven times harder than before.
25 Farò venire su voi la spada a vendicare il mio patto; se vi rifugerete nelle città, manderò in mezzo a voi la pestilenza; e vi darete nelle mani dei vostri nemici,	25 I will make the sword, the avenger of my covenant, sweep over you. Though you then huddle together in your walled cities, I will send in pestilence among you, till you are forced to surrender to the enemy.
26 dopo che io avrò spezzato il sostegno del vostro pane, di maniera che dieci donne potranno cuocere il pane in un solo forno, e lo distribuiranno a peso; mangerete, e non vi sazierete.	26 And as I cut off your supply of bread, ten women will need but one oven for baking all the bread they dole out to you in rations--not enough food to still your hunger.
27 Se poi nemmeno con questo mi ascolterete, ma procederete contro di me,	27 "If, despite all this, you still persist in disobeying and defying me,
28 ed io procederò contro di voi con altrettanto furore, e vi castigherò con sette piaghe pei peccati,	28 I, also, will meet you with fiery defiance and will chastise you with sevenfold fiercer punishment for your sins,
29 in guisa che mangerete le carni de' vostri figliuoli e delle vostre figliuole.	29 till you begin to eat the flesh of your own sons and daughters.
30 Sconvolgerò le vostre colline, e ne spezzerò i simulacri. Cadrete fra i rottami de' vostri idoli, e la mia anima v'avrà in abominio,	30 I will demolish your high places, overthrow your incense stands, and cast your corpses on those of your idols. In my abhorrence of you,
31 così che ridurrò in solitudine le vostre città, farò deserti i vostri santuari, nè più vi riceverò l'odore graditissimo [dei vostri sacrifizi].	31 I will lay waste your cities and devastate your sanctuaries, refusing to accept your sweet-smelling offerings.
32 Desolerò la vostra terra, e ne stupiranno i vostri nemici, quando saranno essi divenuti suoi abitanti.	32 So devastated will I leave the land that your very enemies who come to live there will stand aghast at the sight of it.
33 Voi poi vi disperderò fra le genti, e sguainerò dietro a voi la spada; la vostra terra sarà deserta, e le vostre città diroccate.	33 You yourselves I will scatter among the nations at the point of my drawn sword, leaving your countryside desolate and your cities deserted.
34 Allora la terra si godrà i suoi sabati in tutto il tempo nel quale sarà deserta, e voi sarete	34 Then shall the land retrieve its lost sabbaths during all the time it lies waste, while you are in the land of your enemies; then shall the land have rest and make up for its sabbaths
35 in terra nemica; farà i sabati, e si riposerà nei sabati della sua solitudine, perchè non si riposò nei sabati vostri quando l'abitavate voi.	35 during all the time that it lies desolate, enjoying the rest that you would not let it have on the sabbaths when you lived there.
36 Ed a quelli di voi che rimarranno, metterò in cuore lo spavento nelle terre de' loro nemici; il rumore d'una foglia volante li atterrirà e la fuggiranno come se fosse una spada. Cadranno, senza che alcuno li insegua,	36 "Those of you who survive in the lands of their enemies I will make so fainthearted that, if leaves rustle behind them, they will flee headlong, as if from the sword, though no one pursues them;
37 cadranno gli uni sugli altri i fratelli, come se fuggissero in battaglia; nessuno di voi oserà resistere ai nemici.	37 stumbling over one another as if to escape a weapon, while no one is after them--so helpless will you be to take a stand against your foes!
38 Perirete fra le nazioni, ed una terra nemica vi consumerà.	38 You will be lost among the Gentiles, swallowed up in your enemies' country.
39 Che se alcuni di quelli sopravviveranno, si stringeranno per le proprie iniquità nella terra dei loro nemici, e saranno flagellati pei peccati dei loro padri e propri,	39 Those of you who survive in the lands of their enemies will waste away for their own and their fathers' guilt.
40 sinchè confessino le iniquità proprie e de' loro maggiori, con le quali mi si rivoltarono, e mossero contro di me.	40 "Thus they will have to confess that they and their fathers were guilty of having rebelled against me and of having defied me,
41 Moverò dunque anch'io contro di loro, e li ridurrò in terra nemica, sinchè si penta l'incirconciso lor cuore; allora pregheranno pei propri peccati.	41 so that I, too, had to defy them and bring them into their enemies' land. Then, when their uncircumcised hearts are humbled and they make amends for their guilt,
42 Ed io mi ricorderò del mio patto, da me concluso con Giacobbe, Isacco ed Abramo; mi ricorderò anche di quella terra,	42 I will remember my covenant with Jacob, my covenant with Isaac, and my covenant with Abraham; and of the land, too, I will be mindful.
43 la quale, abbandonata da loro, si sarà goduta i suoi sabati, ridotta in solitudine a causa di loro. Essi allora chiederanno perdono de' loro misfatti, dell'aver rigettati i miei comandamenti e diprezzate le mie leggi.	43 But the land must first be rid of them, that in its desolation it may make up its lost sabbaths, and that they, too, may make good the debt of their guilt for having spurned my precepts and abhorred my statutes.
44 Eppure, anche quand'erano in terra nemica, non li rigettai del tutto nè così li disprezzai da annientarli, e render vano il patto mio con loro. Perchè io sono il Signore Dio loro,	44 Yet even so, even while they are in their enemies' land, I will not reject or spurn them, lest, by wiping them out, I make void my covenant with them; for I, the LORD, am their God.
45 e mi ricorderò del patto mio antico, di quando in faccia alle nazioni li cavai dalla terra d'Egitto, per esser il loro Dio. Io il Signore -». Questi son gli ordini, i comandamenti e le leggi che il Signore sul monte Sinai stabilì fra sè ed i figli d'Israele, per mezzo di Mosè.	45 I will remember them because of the covenant I made with their forefathers, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt under the very eyes of the Gentiles, that I, the LORD, might be their God."
	46 These are the precepts, decrees and laws which the LORD had Moses promulgate on Mount Sinai in the pact between himself and the Israelites.
