1 Il Signore parlò a Mosè, nel deserto del Sinai, nella tenda del convegno, il primo giorno del secondo mese, il secondo anno dalla loro uscita dalla terra d’Egitto, e disse:	1 Yahweh spoke to Moses, in the desert of Sinai, in the Tent of Meeting, on the first day of the secondmonth, in the second year after the exodus from Egypt, and said:
2 «Fate il computo di tutta la comunità degli Israeliti, secondo le loro famiglie, secondo i loro casati paterni, contando i nomi di tutti i maschi, testa per testa,	2 'Take a census of the whole community of Israelites by clans and families, taking a count of the namesof al the males, head by head.
3 dai vent’anni in su, quanti in Israele possono andare in guerra; tu e Aronne li censirete, schiera per schiera.	3 You and Aaron wil register al those in Israel, twenty years of age and over, fit to bear arms, companyby company;
4 Sarà con voi un uomo per tribù, un uomo che sia capo del casato dei suoi padri.	4 you wil have one man from each tribe, the head of his family, to help you.
5 Questi sono i nomi degli uomini che vi assisteranno. Per Ruben: Elisùr, figlio di Sedeùr;	5 'These are the names of those who must help you: For Reuben, Elizur son of Shedeur.
6 per Simeone: Selumièl, figlio di Surisaddài;	6 For Simeon, Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai.
7 per Giuda: Nacson, figlio di Amminadàb;	7 For Judah, Nahshon son of Amminadab.
8 per Ìssacar: Netanèl, figlio di Suar;	8 For Issachar, Nethanel son of Zuar.
9 per Zàbulon: Eliàb, figlio di Chelon;	9 For Zebulun, Eliab son of Helon.
10 per i figli di Giuseppe, per Èfraim: Elisamà, figlio di Ammiùd; per Manasse: Gamlièl, figlio di Pedasùr;	10 Of the sons of Joseph: for Ephraim, Elishama son of Ammihud; for Manasseh, Gamaliel son ofPedahzur.
11 per Beniamino: Abidàn, figlio di Ghideonì;	11 For Benjamin, Abidan son of Gideoni.
12 per Dan: Achièzer, figlio di Ammisaddài;	12 For Dan, Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai.
13 per Aser: Paghièl, figlio di Ocran;	13 For Asher, Pagiel son of Ochran.
14 per Gad: Eliasàf, figlio di Deuèl;	14 For Gad, Eliasaph son of Reuel.
15 per Nèftali: Achirà, figlio di Enan».	15 For Naphtali, Ahira son of Enan.'
16 Questi furono i designati della comunità, i prìncipi delle loro tribù paterne, i capi delle migliaia d’Israele.	16 These were men of repute in the community; they were the leaders of their ancestral tribes, the headsof Israel's thousands.
17 Mosè e Aronne presero questi uomini, che erano stati designati per nome,	17 Moses and Aaron took these men who had been named
18 e radunarono tutta la comunità, il primo giorno del secondo mese; furono registrati secondo le famiglie, secondo i loro casati paterni, contando il numero delle persone dai vent'anni in su, testa per testa.	18 and on the first day of the second month they mustered the whole community. The Israelitesestablished their pedigrees by clans and families, and one by one the names of all men of twenty years and overwere recorded.
19 Come il Signore gli aveva ordinato, Mosè ne fece il censimento nel deserto del Sinai.	19 As Yahweh had ordered, Moses registered them in the desert of Sinai.
20 Risultò per i figli di Ruben, primogenito d’Israele, stabilite le loro genealogie secondo le loro famiglie, secondo i loro casati paterni, contando i nomi di tutti i maschi, testa per testa, dai vent'anni in su, quanti potevano andare in guerra:	20 Once the pedigrees of the descendants of Reuben, Israel's first-born, had been established by clansand families, the names of all the males of twenty years and over, fit to bear arms, were recorded one by one.
21 censiti della tribù di Ruben quarantaseimilacinquecento.	21 The total of these for the tribe of Reuben was forty-six thousand five hundred.
22 Per i figli di Simeone, stabilite le loro genealogie secondo le loro famiglie, secondo i loro casati paterni, contando i nomi di tutti i maschi, testa per testa, dai vent'anni in su, quanti potevano andare in guerra:	22 Once the pedigrees of Simeon's descendants had been established by clans and families, the namesof al the males of twenty years and over, fit to bear arms, were recorded one by one.

44 Questi furono i censiti, di cui fecero il censimento Mosè e Aronne e i prìncipi d’Israele, dodici uomini: c'era un uomo per ciascun casato paterno.	44 Such were the men registered by Moses, Aaron and the leaders of Israel, of whom there were twelve,each representing his family.
45 E tutti i censiti degli Israeliti, secondo i loro casati paterni, dai vent'anni in su, cioè quanti potevano andare in guerra in Israele,	45 Al the Israelites of twenty years and over, fit to bear arms, were counted by families.
46 risultarono registrati in tutto seicentotremilacinquecentocinquanta.	46 Altogether, the total came to six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty.
47 Ma i leviti, secondo la loro tribù paterna, non furono registrati insieme con gli altri.	47 But the Levites and their tribes were not included in the count.
48 Il Signore parlò a Mosè dicendo:	48 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:
49 «Solo la tribù di Levi non censirai, né di essa farai il computo tra gli Israeliti;	49 'Do not, however, take a census of the Levites, or register them with the other Israelites,
50 invece affiderai ai leviti la Dimora della Testimonianza, tutti i suoi accessori e quanto le appartiene. Essi trasporteranno la Dimora e tutti i suoi accessori, vi presteranno servizio e staranno accampati attorno alla Dimora.	50 but enrol the Levites to take charge of the Dwel ing where the Testimony is and of al its furnishingsand belongings. They must carry the Dwel ing and al its furnishings; they must look after the Dwel ing and pitchtheir camp round it.
51 Quando la Dimora dovrà muoversi, i leviti la smonteranno; quando la Dimora dovrà accamparsi, i leviti la erigeranno. Se un estraneo si avvicinerà, sarà messo a morte.	51 Whenever the Dwelling is moved, the Levites will dismantle it; whenever the Dwel ing stops for thenight, the Levites wil erect it. Any unauthorised person coming near it will be put to death.
52 Gli Israeliti pianteranno le tende ognuno nel suo campo, ognuno vicino alla sua insegna, secondo le loro schiere.	52 The Israelites wil pitch their tents, each in their own encampment and by their own standard,company by company,
53 Ma i leviti pianteranno le tende attorno alla Dimora della Testimonianza; così la mia ira non si abbatterà sulla comunità degli Israeliti. I leviti avranno la cura della Dimora della Testimonianza».	53 but the Levites wil pitch their tents round the Dwel ing where the Testimony is. In this way Retributionwil be kept from fal ing on the whole community of Israelites, and the Levites wil keep charge of the Dwel ing ofthe Testimony.'
54 Gli Israeliti eseguirono ogni cosa come il Signore aveva comandato a Mosè: così fecero.	54 The Israelites did exactly as Yahweh had ordered Moses. They did as he said.
