1 Parola che il Signore pronunciò contro Babilonia, contro la terra dei Caldei, per mezzo del profeta Geremia.	1 The word which the LORD spoke against Babylon, against the land of the Chaldeans, through the prophet Jeremiah:
2 «Proclamatelo fra i popoli e fatelo sapere, non nascondetelo, dite: “Babilonia è presa, Bel è coperto di confusione, è infranto Marduc, sono svergognati i suoi idoli, sono infranti i suoi feticci”.	2 Announce and publish it among the nations; publish it, hide it not, but say: Babylon is taken, Bel confounded, Merodach shattered; her images are put to shame, her idols shattered.
3 Poiché dal settentrione sale contro di essa un popolo che ridurrà la sua terra a un deserto: non vi abiterà più nessuno. Uomini e animali fuggono, se ne vanno.	3 A people from the north advances against her to turn her land into a desert, So that no one shall live there, because man and beast have fled away.
4 In quei giorni e in quel tempo – oracolo del Signore – verranno i figli d’Israele insieme con i figli di Giuda; cammineranno piangendo e cercheranno il Signore, loro Dio.	4 In those days, at that time, says the LORD, the men of Israel and of Judah shall come, Weeping as they come, to seek the LORD, their God;
5 Domanderanno di Sion, verso cui sono fissi i loro volti: “Venite, uniamoci al Signore con un’alleanza eterna, che non sia mai dimenticata”.	5 to their goal in Zion they shall ask the way. "Come, let us join ourselves to the LORD with covenant everlasting, never to be forgotten."
6 Gregge di pecore sperdute era il mio popolo, i loro pastori le avevano sviate, le avevano fatte smarrire per i monti; esse andavano di monte in colle, avevano dimenticato il loro ovile.	6 Lost sheep were my people, their shepherds misled them, straggling on the mountains; From mountain to hill they wandered, losing the way to their fold.
7 Quanti le trovavano, le divoravano, e i loro nemici dicevano: “Non ne siamo colpevoli, perché essi hanno peccato contro il Signore, sede di giustizia e speranza dei loro padri”.	7 Whoever came upon them devoured them, and their enemies said, "We incur no guilt, Because they sinned against the LORD, the hope of their fathers, their abode of justice."
8 Fuggite da Babilonia, dalla regione dei Caldei, uscite e siate come capri in testa al gregge.	8 Flee from Babylon, leave the land of the Chaldeans, be like the rams at the head of the flock.
9 Poiché ecco, io suscito e mando contro Babilonia una massa di grandi nazioni dalla terra del settentrione; le si schiereranno contro, ed essa sarà presa. Le loro frecce sono come quelle di un abile arciere, nessuna ritorna a vuoto.	9 See, I am stirring up against Babylon a band of great nations from the north; from there they advance, and she shall be taken. Their arrows are arrows of the skilled warrior; none shall return without effect.
10 La Caldea diventerà preda di saccheggiatori, tutti se ne sazieranno». Oracolo del Signore.	10 Chaldea shall be their plunder, and all her plunderers shall be enriched, says the LORD.
11 Gioite pure e tripudiate, predatori della mia eredità! Saltate pure come giovenchi su un prato e nitrite come stalloni!	11 Yes, rejoice and exult, you that plunder my portion; Frisk like calves on the green, snort like stallions!
12 Vostra madre è piena di confusione, è coperta di vergogna colei che vi ha partorito. Ecco, è l’ultima delle nazioni, un deserto, un luogo riarso e una steppa.	12 Your mother shall be sorely put to shame, she that bore you shall be abashed; See, the last of the nations, a desert, dry and waste.
13 A causa dell’ira del Signore non sarà più abitata, sarà tutta una desolazione. Chiunque passerà vicino a Babilonia rimarrà stupito e fischierà di scherno davanti a tutte le sue piaghe.	13 Because of the LORD'S wrath she shall be empty, and become a total desert; Everyone who passes by Babylon will be appalled and catch his breath, at all her wounds.
14 Disponetevi intorno a Babilonia, voi tutti che tendete l’arco; tirate senza risparmiare le frecce, perché ha peccato contro il Signore.	14 Take your posts encircling Babylon, you who bend the bow; Shoot at her, spare not your arrows,
15 Da ogni parte alzate il grido di guerra contro di lei. Essa tende la mano, crollano le sue torri, rovinano le sue mura: questa è la vendetta del Signore. Vendicatevi di lei, trattatela come essa ha trattato gli altri!	15 raise the war cry against her on all sides. She surrenders, her bastions fall, her walls are torn down: Vengeance of the LORD is this! Take revenge on her, as she has done, do to her; for she sinned against the LORD.
16 Sterminate in Babilonia chi semina e chi impugna la falce per mietere. Di fronte alla spada micidiale ciascuno ritorni al suo popolo e ciascuno fugga verso la sua terra.	16 Cut off from Babylon the sower and him who wields the sickle in harvest time! Before the destroying sword, each of them turns to his own people, everyone flees to his own land.
17 Una pecora smarrita è Israele, i leoni le hanno dato la caccia; per primo l’ha divorata il re d’Assiria, poi Nabucodònosor, re di Babilonia, ne ha stritolato le ossa.	17 A stray sheep was Israel that lions pursued; Formerly the king of Assyria devoured her, now Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon gnaws her bones.
18 Perciò, dice il Signore degli eserciti, Dio d’Israele: «Ecco, io punirò il re di Babilonia e la sua terra, come già ho punito il re d’Assiria,	18 Therefore, thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as once I punished the king of Assyria;
19 e ricondurrò Israele nel suo pascolo. Pascolerà sul Carmelo e sul Basan; sulle montagne di Èfraim e di Gàlaad si sazierà.	19 But I will bring back Israel to her fold, to feed on Carmel and Bashan, And on Mount Ephraim and Gilead, till she has her fill.
20 In quei giorni e in quel tempo – oracolo del Signore – si cercherà l’iniquità d’Israele, ma essa non sarà più; si cercheranno i peccati di Giuda, ma non si troveranno, perché io perdonerò al resto che lascerò.	20 In those days, at that time, says the LORD: They shall seek Israel's guilt, but it shall be no more, and Judah's sins, but these shall no longer be found; for I will forgive the remnant I preserve.
21 Avanza nella terra di Meratàim, avanza contro di essa e contro gli abitanti di Pekod. Devasta, annientali – oracolo del Signore –, fa’ quanto ti ho comandato!».	21 Attack the land of Merathaim, and those who live in Pekod; Slaughter and doom them, says the LORD, do all I have commanded you.
22 Rumore di guerra nella regione, e grande disastro.	22 Battle alarm in the land, dire destruction!
23 Come è stato rotto e fatto in pezzi il martello di tutta la terra? Come è diventata un orrore Babilonia fra le nazioni?	23 How has the hammer of the whole earth been broken and shattered! What an object of horror Babylon has become among the nations.
24 Ti ho teso un laccio e sei stata catturata, Babilonia, senza avvedertene. Sei stata sorpresa e afferrata, perché hai fatto guerra al Signore.	24 You ensnared yourself, and were caught, O Babylon, before you knew it! You were discovered and seized, because you challenged the LORD.
25 Il Signore ha aperto il suo arsenale e ne ha tratto le armi del suo sdegno, perché il Signore, Dio degli eserciti, ha un’opera da compiere nella terra dei Caldei.	25 The LORD opens his armory and brings forth the weapons of his wrath; For the Lord GOD of hosts has work to do in the land of the Chaldeans.
26 Venite dall’estremo limite della terra, aprite i suoi granai; fatene dei mucchi come covoni, sterminatela, non ne rimanga neppure un resto.	26 Come upon her from every side, open her granaries, Pile up her goods in heaps and doom it, leave not a remnant.
27 Uccidete tutti i suoi tori, scendano al macello. Guai a loro, perché è giunto il loro giorno, il tempo del loro castigo!	27 Slay all her oxen, let them go down to the slaughter; Woe to them! their day has come, the time of their punishment.
28 Voce di profughi e di scampati dalla terra di Babilonia, per annunciare in Sion la vendetta del Signore, nostro Dio, la vendetta per il suo tempio.	28 Listen! the fugitives, the escaped from the land of Babylon: They announce in Zion the vengeance of the LORD, our God.
29 Convocate contro Babilonia gli arcieri, quanti tendono l’arco. Accampatevi intorno ad essa: nessuno scampi. Ripagatela secondo le sue opere, fate a lei quanto essa ha fatto, perché è stata arrogante con il Signore, con il Santo d’Israele.	29 Call up against Babylon archers, all who bend the bow; Encamp around her, let no one escape. Repay her for her deeds; as she has done, do to her, For she insulted the LORD, the Holy One of Israel.
30 «Perciò cadranno i suoi giovani nelle sue piazze e tutti i suoi guerrieri periranno in quel giorno. Oracolo del Signore.	30 Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets, all her warriors shall perish on that day, says the LORD.
31 Eccomi a te, o arrogante – oracolo del Signore degli eserciti –, poiché è giunto il tuo giorno, il tempo del tuo castigo.	31 I am against you, man of insolence, says the Lord GOD of hosts; For your day has come, the time for me to punish you.
32 Vacillerà l’arrogante e cadrà, nessuno la rialzerà. Io darò alle fiamme le sue città, esse divoreranno tutti i suoi dintorni».	32 Insolence stumbles and falls; there is no one to raise him up. I will kindle in his cities a fire that shall devour everything around him.
33 Così dice il Signore degli eserciti: «Sono oppressi insieme i figli d’Israele e i figli di Giuda; tutti quelli che li hanno deportati li trattengono e rifiutano di lasciarli andare.	33 Thus says the LORD of hosts: Oppressed are the men of Israel, and with them the men of Judah; All their captors hold them fast and refuse to let them go.
34 Ma il loro vendicatore è forte, Signore degli eserciti è il suo nome. Egli sosterrà efficacemente la loro causa, renderà tranquilla la terra e sconvolgerà gli abitanti di Babilonia.	34 Strong is their avenger, whose name is LORD of hosts; He will defend their cause with success, and give rest to the earth, but unrest to those who live in Babylon.
35 Spada sui Caldei – oracolo del Signore – e sugli abitanti di Babilonia, sui suoi capi e sui suoi sapienti!	35 A sword upon the Chaldeans, says the LORD, upon Babylon's people, her princes and wise men!
36 Spada sui suoi indovini: che impazziscano! Spada sui suoi prodi: che atterriscano!	36 A sword upon the soothsayers, that they may become fools! A sword upon her warriors, that they may tremble;
37 Spada sui suoi cavalli e sui suoi carri, su tutta la gentaglia che è in essa: diventino come donnicciole! Spada sui suoi tesori: siano saccheggiati!	37 A sword upon her motley throng, that they may become women! A sword upon her treasures, that they may be plundered;
38 Spada sulle sue acque: si prosciughino! Perché essa è una terra di idoli; vanno pazzi per questi spauracchi.	38 A sword upon her waters, that they may dry up! For it is a land of idols, and they shall be made frantic by fearful things.
39 Perciò l’abiteranno animali selvatici e sciacalli, vi si stabiliranno gli struzzi; non sarà mai più abitata né popolata di generazione in generazione.	39 Hence, wildcats and desert beasts shall dwell there, and ostriches shall occupy it; Never again shall it be peopled, or lived in, from age to age.
40 Come quando Dio sconvolse Sòdoma, Gomorra e le città vicine – oracolo del Signore –, non vi abiterà alcuna persona né vi dimorerà essere umano.	40 As when God overturned Sodom and Gomorrah, with their neighbors, says the LORD, Not a man shall dwell there, no human being shall tarry there.
41 Ecco, un popolo viene dal settentrione, una grande nazione, e molti re si muovono dalle estremità della terra.	41 See! a people comes from the north, a great nation, and mighty kings roused from the ends of the earth.
42 Impugnano archi e lance; sono crudeli, senza pietà. Il loro clamore è quello di un mare agitato e montano cavalli, pronti come un sol uomo alla battaglia contro di te, figlia di Babilonia.	42 Bow and javelin they wield, cruel and pitiless are they; They sound like the roaring sea, as they ride forth on steeds, Each in his place for battle against you, daughter Babylon.
43 Appena il re di Babilonia ne ha udito la fama, gli sono cadute le braccia; si è impadronita di lui l’angoscia, come gli spasimi di partoriente.	43 The king of Babylon hears news of them, and helpless fall his hands; Anguish seizes him, throes like a mother's in childbirth.
44 Ecco, come un leone sale dalla boscaglia del Giordano verso i prati sempre verdi, così in un baleno io li scaccerò di là e porrò su di esso il mio eletto. Perché chi è come me? Chi può citarmi in giudizio? Chi è dunque il pastore che può resistere davanti a me?»	44 As when a lion comes up from the Jordan's thicket to the permanent feeding grounds, So I, in one instant, will drive them off, and whom I choose I will establish there; For who is like me? who calls me to account? what shepherd can stand against me?
45 Per questo ascoltate il progetto che il Signore ha fatto contro Babilonia e le decisioni che ha preso contro il paese dei Caldei. Certo, trascineranno via anche i più piccoli del gregge e sarà desolato il loro pascolo.	45 Therefore hear the counsel of the LORD which he has taken against Babylon; Hear the plans he has made against the land of the Chaldeans: They shall be dragged away, even the smallest sheep; their own pasture shall be aghast because of them.
46 Per il fragore della presa di Babilonia si scuoterà la terra, ne risuonerà l’eco fra le nazioni.	46 At the cry "Babylon is captured!" the earth quakes; the outcry is heard among the nations.
