1 Parola del Signore che fu rivolta al profeta Geremia sulle nazioni.	1 The words of Yahweh that were addressed to the prophet Jeremiah against the nations.
2 Sull’Egitto. Contro l’esercito del faraone Necao, re d’Egitto, che si trovava a Càrchemis, presso il fiume Eufrate, esercito che Nabucodònosor, re di Babilonia, vinse nel quarto anno di Ioiakìm, figlio di Giosia, re di Giuda.	2 On Egypt. Against the army of Pharaoh Necho king of Egypt, which was at Carchemish on the RiverEuphrates when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon defeated it in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, kingof Judah.
3 «Preparate scudo grande e piccolo e avanzate per la battaglia.	3 Buckler and shield at the ready! Onward to battle!
4 Attaccate i cavalli, montate, o cavalieri. Schieratevi con gli elmi, lucidate le lance, indossate le corazze!	4 Harness the horses: into the saddle, horsemen! To your ranks! On with your helmets! Sharpen yourspears, put on your breastplates!
5 Che vedo? Sono spaventati, retrocedono! I loro prodi sono sconfitti, fuggono a precipizio senza voltarsi; terrore all’intorno. Oracolo del Signore.	5 Why do I see them retreating, panic-stricken? Their heroes, beaten back, are fleeing headlong, with nota look behind. Terror on every side, Yahweh declares!
6 Il più agile non sfuggirà né il più prode si salverà. A settentrione, sulla riva dell’Eufrate, inciampano e cadono.	6 No flight for the swift, no escape for the strong! Up in the north on the River Euphrates, they havecol apsed, have fal en.
7 Chi è colui che trabocca come il Nilo, come un fiume dalle acque turbolente?	7 Who was it rose like the Nile, his waters foaming like a torrent?

9 Caricate, cavalli, avanzate, carri! Avanti, o prodi, uomini di Etiopia e di Put, voi che impugnate lo scudo, e voi di Lud che tendete l’arco.	9 Charge, horses! Forward, chariots! Let the warriors advance, men from Cush and Put with shield inhand, men from Lud who bend the bow!'
10 Ma quel giorno per il Signore, Dio degli eserciti, è giorno di vendetta, per punire i nemici. La sua spada divorerà, si sazierà e si inebrierà del loro sangue; poiché sarà un sacrificio per il Signore, Dio degli eserciti, nella terra del settentrione, presso il fiume Eufrate.	10 For this is the Day of Lord Yahweh Sabaoth, a day of vengeance when he takes revenge on his foes:the sword wil devour until gorged, until drunk with their blood, for Lord Yahweh Sabaoth is holding a sacrificialfeast in the land of the north, on the River Euphrates.
11 Sali in Gàlaad a prendere il balsamo, vergine, figlia d’Egitto. Invano moltiplichi i rimedi, ma non c’è guarigione per te.	11 Go up to Gilead and fetch balm, virgin daughter of Egypt! You multiply remedies in vain, nothing cancure you!
12 Le nazioni hanno saputo del tuo disonore; del tuo grido di dolore è piena la terra, poiché il prode inciampa nel prode, tutti e due cadono insieme».	12 The nations have heard of your shame, your wailing fil s the world, for warrior has stumbled againstwarrior, and both have fal en together.
13 Parola che il Signore comunicò al profeta Geremia quando Nabucodònosor, re di Babilonia, giunse per colpire la terra d’Egitto.	13 The word that came from Yahweh to the prophet Jeremiah when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylonadvanced to attack Egypt.
14 «Annunciatelo in Egitto, fatelo sapere a Migdol, fatelo udire a Menfi e a Tafni; dite: “Àlzati e prepàrati, perché la spada divora intorno a te”.	14 Publish it in Egypt, proclaim it in Migdol, proclaim it in Noph and Tahpanhes! Say, 'Stand your ground,be prepared, for the sword is devouring al round you!'
15 Perché mai il tuo potente è travolto? Non resiste perché il Signore l’ha rovesciato.	15 Why has Apis fled? Why has your Mighty One not stood firm? Why, Yahweh has overturned him,
16 Una gran folla vacilla e stramazza, ognuno dice al vicino: “Su, torniamo al nostro popolo, al paese dove siamo nati, lontano dalla spada micidiale!”.	16 he has caused many to fal ! Fal ing over one another, they say, 'Up, and back to our own people, tothe country where we were born, away from the devastating sword!'
17 Chiamate pure fanfarone il faraone, re d’Egitto: si lascia sfuggire il momento opportuno.	17 They have given Pharaoh king of Egypt the nickname, 'Much-noise-but-he-lets-the-chance-slip-by'!
18 Per la mia vita – oracolo del re il cui nome è Signore degli eserciti –, verrà uno simile al Tabor fra le montagne, come il Carmelo presso il mare.	18 As I live, the King declares, whose name is Yahweh Sabaoth, he is coming, a very Tabor amongmountains, a Carmel high above the sea!
19 Prepàrati il bagaglio per l’esilio, o figlia che abiti l’Egitto, perché Menfi sarà ridotta a un deserto, sarà devastata, senza abitanti.	19 Get your bundle ready for exile, fair inhabitant of Egypt! Noph will be reduced to a desert, desolate,uninhabited.
20 Giovenca bellissima è l’Egitto, ma un tafano viene su di lei dal settentrione.	20 Egypt was a splendid heifer, but a gadfly from the north has settled on her.
21 Anche i suoi mercenari in mezzo ad essa sono come vitelli da ingrasso. Anch’essi infatti hanno voltato le spalle, fuggono insieme, non resistono, poiché è giunto su di loro il giorno della sventura, il tempo del loro castigo.	21 The mercenaries she had with her, these too were like fattened calves: but they too have taken totheir heels, have al run away, not held their ground, for their day of disaster has overtaken them, their time forbeing punished.

23 Abbattono la sua selva – oracolo del Signore – e non si possono contare, essi sono più delle locuste, sono senza numero.	23 they wil fell her forest, Yahweh declares, however impenetrable it was for they are more numerousthan locusts, there is no counting them.
24 Prova vergogna la figlia d’Egitto, è data in mano a un popolo del settentrione».	24 The daughter of Egypt is put to shame, handed over to a people from the north.
25 Il Signore degli eserciti, Dio d’Israele, dice: «Ecco, punirò Amon di Tebe, l’Egitto, i suoi dèi e i suoi re, il faraone e coloro che confidano in lui.	25 Yahweh Sabaoth, God of Israel, has said, 'Look, I shal punish Amon of No, Pharaoh, Egypt, its gods,its kings, Pharaoh and those who put their trust in him.
26 Li consegnerò in mano di quanti vogliono la loro vita, in mano di Nabucodònosor, re di Babilonia, e dei suoi ministri. Ma dopo sarà abitato come in passato. Oracolo del Signore.	26 I shal hand him over to those who are determined to kil him, to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, tohis generals. But afterwards, Egypt wil be inhabited again as in the past, Yahweh declares.
27 Ma tu non temere, Giacobbe, mio servo, non abbatterti, Israele, perché io libererò te dalla terra lontana, la tua discendenza dalla terra del suo esilio. Giacobbe ritornerà e avrà riposo, vivrà tranquillo e nessuno lo molesterà.	27 But do not be afraid, my servant Jacob, Israel, do not be alarmed: for look, I shal rescue you fromafar and your descendants from the country where they are captive. Jacob wil return and be at peace, secure,with no one to trouble him.
28 Tu non temere, Giacobbe, mio servo – oracolo del Signore –, perché io sono con te. Sterminerò tutte le nazioni tra le quali ti ho disperso, ma non sterminerò te; ti castigherò secondo giustizia, non ti lascerò del tutto impunito».	28 Do not be afraid, my servant Jacob, Yahweh declares, for I am with you: I shal make an end of al thenations where I have driven you, but I shal not make an end of you, I shal discipline you only as you deserve,not leaving you quite unpunished.
