1 Abramo prese un’altra moglie, che aveva nome Keturà.	1 Abraham married another wife whose name was Keturah;
2 Ella gli partorì Zimran, Ioksan, Medan, Madian, Isbak e Suach.	2 and she bore him Zimram, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak and Shuah.
3 Ioksan generò Saba e Dedan, e i figli di Dedan furono gli Assurìm, i Letusìm e i Leummìm.	3 Jokshan was the father of Sheba and Dedan, and the descendants of Dedan were the Asshurites, theLetushim and the Leummim.
4 I figli di Madian furono Efa, Efer, Enoc, Abidà ed Eldaà. Tutti questi sono i figli di Keturà.	4 The descendants of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida and Eldaah. Al these were sons ofKeturah.
5 Abramo diede tutti i suoi beni a Isacco.	5 Abraham left al his possessions to Isaac.
6 Invece ai figli delle concubine, che aveva avuto, Abramo fece doni e, mentre era ancora in vita, li licenziò, mandandoli lontano da Isacco suo figlio, verso il levante, nella regione orientale.	6 To the sons of his concubines Abraham made grants during his lifetime, sending them away from hisson Isaac eastward, to the Land of the East.
7 L’intera durata della vita di Abramo fu di centosettantacinque anni.	7 The number of years Abraham lived was a hundred and seventy-five.
8 Poi Abramo spirò e morì in felice canizie, vecchio e sazio di giorni, e si riunì ai suoi antenati.	8 When Abraham had breathed his last, dying at a happy ripe age, old and ful of years, he wasgathered to his people.
9 Lo seppellirono i suoi figli, Isacco e Ismaele, nella caverna di Macpela, nel campo di Efron, figlio di Socar, l’Ittita, di fronte a Mamre.	9 His sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah facing Mamre, in the field of Ephronthe Hittite son of Zohar.
10 È appunto il campo che Abramo aveva comprato dagli Ittiti: ivi furono sepolti Abramo e sua moglie Sara.	10 This was the field that Abraham had bought from the Hittites, and Abraham and his wife Sarah wereburied there.
11 Dopo la morte di Abramo, Dio benedisse il figlio di lui Isacco e Isacco abitò presso il pozzo di Lacai-Roì.	11 After Abraham's death, God blessed his son Isaac. Isaac settled near the wel of Lahai Roi.
12 Questa è la discendenza di Ismaele, figlio di Abramo, che gli aveva partorito Agar l’Egiziana, schiava di Sara.	12 These are the descendants of Ishmael son of Abraham by Hagar, Sarah's Egyptian slave-girl.
13 Questi sono i nomi dei figli d’Ismaele, con il loro elenco in ordine di generazione: il primogenito di Ismaele è Nebaiòt, poi Kedar, Adbeèl, Mibsam,	13 These are the names of the sons of Ishmael by name and line: Ishmael's first-born was Nebaioth;then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,
14 Misma, Duma, Massa,	14 Mishma, Dumah, Massa,
15 Adad, Tema, Ietur, Nafis e Kedma.	15 Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish and Kedemah.
16 Questi sono i figli di Ismaele e questi sono i loro nomi secondo i loro recinti e accampamenti. Sono i dodici prìncipi delle rispettive tribù.	16 These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, according to their settlements andencampments, twelve chiefs of as many tribes.
17 La durata della vita di Ismaele fu di centotrentasette anni; poi spirò e si riunì ai suoi antenati.	17 The number of years Ishmael lived was one hundred and thirty-seven. When he breathed his lastand died, he was gathered to his people.
18 Egli abitò da Avìla fino a Sur, che è lungo il confine dell’Egitto in direzione di Assur. Egli si era stabilito di fronte a tutti i suoi fratelli.	18 He lived in the territory stretching from Havilah-by-Shur just outside Egypt on the way to Assyria, andhe held his own against all his kinsmen.
19 Questa è la discendenza di Isacco, figlio di Abramo. Abramo aveva generato Isacco.	19 This is the story of Isaac son of Abraham. Abraham fathered Isaac.
20 Isacco aveva quarant’anni quando si prese in moglie Rebecca, figlia di Betuèl l’Arameo, da Paddan-Aram, e sorella di Làbano, l’Arameo.	20 Isaac was forty years old when he married Rebekah the daughter of Bethuel the Aramaean ofPaddan-Aram, and sister of Laban the Aramaean.
21 Isacco supplicò il Signore per sua moglie, perché ella era sterile e il Signore lo esaudì, così che sua moglie Rebecca divenne incinta.	21 Isaac prayed to Yahweh on behalf of his wife, for she was barren. Yahweh heard his prayer, and hiswife Rebekah conceived.
22 Ora i figli si urtavano nel suo seno ed ella esclamò: «Se è così, che cosa mi sta accadendo?». Andò a consultare il Signore.	22 But the children inside her struggled so much that she said, 'If this is the way of it, why go on living?'So she went to consult Yahweh,
23 Il Signore le rispose: «Due nazioni sono nel tuo seno e due popoli dal tuo grembo si divideranno; un popolo sarà più forte dell’altro e il maggiore servirà il più piccolo».	23 and Yahweh said to her: There are two nations in your womb, your issue wil be two rival peoples.One nation wil have the mastery of the other, and the elder wil serve the younger.
24 Quando poi si compì per lei il tempo di partorire, ecco, due gemelli erano nel suo grembo.	24 When the time came for her confinement, there were indeed twins in her womb.
25 Uscì il primo, rossiccio e tutto come un mantello di pelo, e fu chiamato Esaù.	25 The first to be born was red, altogether like a hairy cloak; so they named him Esau.
26 Subito dopo, uscì il fratello e teneva in mano il calcagno di Esaù; fu chiamato Giacobbe. Isacco aveva sessant’anni quando essi nacquero.	26 Then his brother was born, with his hand grasping Esau's heel; so they named him Jacob. Isaac wassixty years old at the time of their birth.
27 I fanciulli crebbero ed Esaù divenne abile nella caccia, un uomo della steppa, mentre Giacobbe era un uomo tranquillo, che dimorava sotto le tende.	27 When the boys grew up Esau became a skil ed hunter, a man of the open country. Jacob on theother hand was a quiet man, staying at home among the tents.
28 Isacco prediligeva Esaù, perché la cacciagione era di suo gusto, mentre Rebecca prediligeva Giacobbe.	28 Isaac preferred Esau, for he had a taste for wild game; but Rebekah preferred Jacob.
29 Una volta Giacobbe aveva cotto una minestra; Esaù arrivò dalla campagna ed era sfinito.	29 Once, when Jacob was cooking a stew, Esau returned from the countryside exhausted.
30 Disse a Giacobbe: «Lasciami mangiare un po’ di questa minestra rossa, perché io sono sfinito». Per questo fu chiamato Edom.	30 Esau said to Jacob, 'Give me a mouthful of that red stuff there; I am exhausted' -- hence the namegiven to him, Edom.
31 Giacobbe disse: «Vendimi subito la tua primogenitura».	31 Jacob said, 'First, give me your birthright in exchange.'
32 Rispose Esaù: «Ecco, sto morendo: a che mi serve allora la primogenitura?».	32 Esau said, 'Here I am, at death's door; what use is a birthright to me?'
33 Giacobbe allora disse: «Giuramelo subito». Quegli lo giurò e vendette la primogenitura a Giacobbe.	33 Then Jacob said, 'First give me your oath'; he gave him his oath and sold his birthright to Jacob.
34 Giacobbe diede a Esaù il pane e la minestra di lenticchie; questi mangiò e bevve, poi si alzò e se ne andò. A tal punto Esaù aveva disprezzato la primogenitura.	34 Then Jacob gave him some bread and lentil stew; he ate, drank, got up and went away. That was allEsau cared about his birthright.
