1 Figli, ascoltatemi, sono vostro padre; agite in modo da essere salvati.	1 Listen to me your father, O children; and act accordingly, that you may be kept in safety.
2 Il Signore vuole che il padre sia onorato dai figli, ha stabilito il diritto della madre sulla prole.	2 For the Lord honored the father above the children, and he confirmed the right of the mother over her sons.
3 Chi onora il padre espia i peccati;	3 Whoever honors his father atones for sins,
4 chi riverisce la madre è come chi accumula tesori.	4 and whoever glorifies his mother is like one who lays up treasure.
5 Chi onora il padre avrà gioia dai propri figli e sarà esaudito nel giorno della sua preghiera.	5 Whoever honors his father will be gladdened by his own children, and when he prays he will be heard.
6 Chi riverisce il padre vivrà a lungo; chi obbedisce al Signore dà consolazione alla madre.	6 Whoever glorifies his father will have long life, and whoever obeys the Lord will refresh his mother;
7 Chi teme il Signore rispetta il padre e serve come padroni i genitori.	7 he will serve his parents as his masters.
8 Onora tuo padre a fatti e a parole, perché scenda su di te la sua benedizione.	8 Honor your father by word and deed, that a blessing from him may come upon you.
9 La benedizione del padre consolida le case dei figli, la maledizione della madre ne scalza le fondamenta.	9 For a father's blessing strengthens the houses of the children, but a mother's curse uproots their foundations.
10 Non vantarti del disonore di tuo padre, perché il disonore del padre non è gloria per te;	10 Do not glorify yourself by dishonoring your father, for your father's dishonor is no glory to you.
11 la gloria di un uomo dipende dall'onore del padre, vergogna per i figli è una madre nel disonore.	11 For a man's glory comes from honoring his father, and it is a disgrace for children not to respect their mother.
12 Figlio, soccorri tuo padre nella vecchiaia, non contristarlo durante la sua vita.	12 O son, help your father in his old age, and do not grieve him as long as he lives;
13 Anche se perdesse il senno, compatiscilo e non disprezzarlo, mentre sei nel pieno vigore.	13 even if he is lacking in understanding, show forbearance; in all your strength do not despise him.
14 Poiché la pietà verso il padre non sarà dimenticata, ti sarà computata a sconto dei peccati.	14 For kindness to a father will not be forgotten, and against your sins it will be credited to you;
15 Nel giorno della tua tribolazione Dio si ricorderà di te; come fa il calore sulla brina, si scioglieranno i tuoi peccati.	15 in the day of your affliction it will be remembered in your favor; as frost in fair weather, your sins will melt away.
16 Chi abbandona il padre è come un bestemmiatore, chi insulta la madre è maledetto dal Signore.	16 Whoever forsakes his father is like a blasphemer, and whoever angers his mother is cursed by the Lord.
17 Figlio, nella tua attività sii modesto, sarai amato dall'uomo gradito a Dio.	17 My son, perform your tasks in meekness; then you will be loved by those whom God accepts.
18 Quanto più sei grande, tanto più umìliati; così troverai grazia davanti al Signore;	18 The greater you are, the more you must humble yourself; so you will find favor in the sight of the Lord.
19 perché grande è la potenza del Signore	19 .
20 e dagli umili egli è glorificato.	20 For great is the might of the Lord; he is glorified by the humble.
21 Non cercare le cose troppo difficili per te, non indagare le cose per te troppo grandi.	21 Seek not what is too difficult for you, nor investigate what is beyond your power.
22 Bada a quello che ti è stato comandato, poiché tu non devi occuparti delle cose misteriose.	22 Reflect upon what has been assigned to you, for you do not need what is hidden.
23 Non sforzarti in ciò che trascende le tue capacità, poiché ti è stato mostrato più di quanto comprende un'intelligenza umana.	23 Do not meddle in what is beyond your tasks, for matters too great for human understanding have been shown you.
24 Molti ha fatto smarrire la loro presunzione, una misera illusione ha fuorviato i loro pensieri.	24 For their hasty judgment has led many astray, and wrong opinion has caused their thoughts to slip.
25 Un cuore ostinato alla fine cadrà nel male; chi ama il pericolo in esso si perderà.	25 .
26 Un cuore ostinato sarà oppresso da affanni, il peccatore aggiungerà peccato a peccato.	26 A stubborn mind will be afflicted at the end, and whoever loves danger will perish by it.
27 La sventura non guarisce il superbo, perché la pianta del male si è radicata in lui.	27 A stubborn mind will be burdened by troubles, and the sinner will heap sin upon sin.
28 Una mente saggia medita le parabole, un orecchio attento è quanto desidera il saggio.	28 The affliction of the proud has no healing, for a plant of wickedness has taken root in him.
29 L'acqua spegne un fuoco acceso, l'elemosina espia i peccati.	29 The mind of the intelligent man will ponder a parable, and an attentive ear is the wise man's desire.
30 Chi ricambia il bene provvede all'avvenire, al momento della sua caduta troverà un sostegno.	30 Water extinguishes a blazing fire: so almsgiving atones for sin.
	31 Whoever requites favors gives thought to the future; at the moment of his falling he will find support.
