BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Colui che vive per sempre ha creato l'intero universo.	1 He who lives for ever has created the sum of things.
2 Il Signore soltanto è riconosciuto giusto.	2 The Lord alone wil be found just.
3 A nessuno è possibile svelare le sue opere e chi può indagare le sue grandezze?	3
4 La potenza della sua maestà chi potrà misurarla? Chi riuscirà a narrare le sue misericordie?	4 He has given no one the power to proclaim his works to the end, and who can fathom his magnificentdeeds?
5 Non c'è nulla da togliere e nulla da aggiungere; non è possibile indagare le meraviglie del Signore.	5 Who can assess his magnificent strength, and who can go further and tel al of his mercies?
6 Quando uno ha finito, allora comincia; quando si ferma, allora rimane perplesso.	6 Nothing can be added to them, nothing subtracted, it is impossible to fathom the marvels of the Lord.
7 Che è l'uomo? E a che può servire? Qual è il suo bene e qual è il suo male?	7 When someone finishes he is only beginning, and when he stops he is as puzzled as ever.
8 Quanto al numero dei giorni dell'uomo, cento anni sono già molti.	8 What is a human being, what purpose does he serve? What is good and what is bad for him?
9 Come una goccia d'acqua nel mare e un grano di sabbia così questi pochi anni in un giorno dell'eternità.	9 The length of his life: a hundred years at most.
10 Per questo il Signore è paziente con gli uomini e riversa su di essi la sua misericordia.	10 Like a drop of water from the sea, or a grain of sand, such are these few years compared with eternity.
11 Vede e conosce che la loro sorte è misera, per questo moltiplica il perdono.	11 This is why the Lord is patient with them and pours out his mercy on them.
12 La misericordia dell'uomo riguarda il prossimo, la misericordia del Signore ogni essere vivente.	12 He sees and recognises how wretched their end is, and so he makes his forgiveness the greater.
13 Egli rimprovera, corregge, ammaestra e guida come un pastore il suo gregge.	13 Human compassion extends to neighbours, but the Lord's compassion extends to everyone; rebuking,correcting and teaching, bringing them back as a shepherd brings his flock.
14 Ha pietà di quanti accettano la dottrina e di quanti sono zelanti per le sue decisioni.	14 He has compassion on those who accept correction, and who fervently search for his judgements.
15 Figlio, ai benefici non aggiungere il rimprovero, e a ogni dono parole amare.	15 My child, do not temper your favours with blame nor any of your gifts with words that hurt.
16 La rugiada non mitiga forse il calore? Così una parola è più pregiata del dono.	16 Does not dew relieve the heat? In the same way a word is worth more than a gift.
17 Ecco, non vale una parola più di un ricco dono? L'uomo caritatevole offre l'una e l'altro.	17 Why surely, a word is better than a good present, but a generous person is ready with both.
18 Lo stolto rimprovera senza riguardo, il dono dell'invidioso fa languire gli occhi.	18 A fool wil offer nothing but insult, and a grudging gift makes the eyes smart.
19 Prima di parlare, impara; curati ancor prima di ammalarti.	19 Learn before you speak, take care of yourself before you fal ill.
20 Prima del giudizio esamina te stesso, così al momento del verdetto troverai perdono.	20 Examine yourself before judgement comes, and on the day of visitation you will be acquitted.
21 Umìliati, prima di cadere malato, e quando hai peccato, mostra il pentimento.	21 Humble yourself before you fall il , repent as soon as the sin is committed.
22 Nulla ti impedisca di soddisfare a tempo un voto, non aspettare fino alla morte per sdebitarti.	22 Let nothing prevent your discharging a vow in good time, and do not wait till death to set matters right.
23 Prima di fare un voto prepara te stesso, non fare come un uomo che tenta il Signore.	23 Prepare yourself before making a vow, and do not be like someone who tempts the Lord.
24 Pensa all'ira del giorno della morte, al tempo della vendetta, quando egli distoglierà lo sguardo da te.	24 Bear in mind the retribution of the last days, the time of vengeance when God averts his face.
25 Pensa alla carestia nel tempo dell'abbondanza; alla povertà e all'indigenza nei giorni di ricchezza.	25 In a time of plenty remember times of famine, think of poverty and want when you are rich.
26 Dal mattino alla sera il tempo cambia; e tutto è effimero davanti al Signore.	26 The time slips by between dawn and dusk, everything passes quickly for the Lord.
27 Un uomo saggio è circospetto in ogni cosa; nei giorni del peccato si astiene dalla colpa.	27 The wise wil be cautious in everything, in sinful times wil take care not to offend.
28 Ogni uomo assennato conosce la sapienza e a colui che l'ha trovata rende omaggio.	28 Every person of sense recognises wisdom, and wil respect anyone who has found her.
29 Quelli istruiti nel parlare anch'essi diventano saggi, fanno piovere massime eccellenti.	29 Those who understand sayings have toiled for their wisdom and have poured out accurate maxims.
30 Non seguire le passioni; poni un freno ai tuoi desideri.	30 Do not be governed by your passions, restrain your desires.
31 Se ti concedi la soddisfazione della passione, essa ti renderà oggetto di scherno ai tuoi nemici.	31 If you al ow yourself to satisfy your desires, this wil make you the laughing-stock of your enemies.
32 Non godere una vita di piaceri, sua conseguenza è una doppia povertà.	32 Do not indulge in luxurious living, do not get involved in such society.
33 Non impoverire scialacquando con denaro preso a prestito, quando non hai nulla nella borsa.	33 Do not beggar yourself by banqueting on credit when there is nothing in your pocket.
