1 Colui che vive per sempre ha creato l'intero universo.	1 The Eternal is the judge of all things without exception; the LORD alone is just.
2 Il Signore soltanto è riconosciuto giusto.	2 Whom has he made equal to describing his works, and who can probe his mighty deeds?
3 A nessuno è possibile svelare le sue opere e chi può indagare le sue grandezze?	3 Who can measure his majestic power, or exhaust the tale of his mercies?
4 La potenza della sua maestà chi potrà misurarla? Chi riuscirà a narrare le sue misericordie?	4 One cannot lessen, nor increase, nor penetrate the wonders of the LORD.
5 Non c'è nulla da togliere e nulla da aggiungere; non è possibile indagare le meraviglie del Signore.	5 When a man ends he is only beginning, and when he stops he is still bewildered.
6 Quando uno ha finito, allora comincia; quando si ferma, allora rimane perplesso.	6 What is man, of what worth is he? the good, the evil in him, what are these?
7 Che è l'uomo? E a che può servire? Qual è il suo bene e qual è il suo male?	7 The sum of a man's days is great if it reaches a hundred years:
8 Quanto al numero dei giorni dell'uomo, cento anni sono già molti.	8 Like a drop of sea water, like a grain of sand, so are these few years among the days of eternity.
9 Come una goccia d'acqua nel mare e un grano di sabbia così questi pochi anni in un giorno dell'eternità.	9 That is why the LORD is patient with men and showers upon them his mercy.
10 Per questo il Signore è paziente con gli uomini e riversa su di essi la sua misericordia.	10 He sees and understands that their death is grievous, and so he forgives them all the more.
11 Vede e conosce che la loro sorte è misera, per questo moltiplica il perdono.	11 Man may be merciful to his fellow man, but the LORD'S mercy reaches all flesh,
12 La misericordia dell'uomo riguarda il prossimo, la misericordia del Signore ogni essere vivente.	12 Reproving, admonishing, teaching, as a shepherd guides his flock;
13 Egli rimprovera, corregge, ammaestra e guida come un pastore il suo gregge.	13 Merciful to those who accept his guidance, who are diligent in his precepts.
14 Ha pietà di quanti accettano la dottrina e di quanti sono zelanti per le sue decisioni.	14 My son, to your charity add no reproach, nor spoil any gift by harsh words.
15 Figlio, ai benefici non aggiungere il rimprovero, e a ogni dono parole amare.	15 Like dew that abates a burning wind, so does a word improve a gift.
16 La rugiada non mitiga forse il calore? Così una parola è più pregiata del dono.	16 Sometimes the word means more than the gift; both are offered by a kindly man.
17 Ecco, non vale una parola più di un ricco dono? L'uomo caritatevole offre l'una e l'altro.	17 Only a fool upbraids before giving; a grudging gift wears out the expectant eyes.
18 Lo stolto rimprovera senza riguardo, il dono dell'invidioso fa languire gli occhi.	18 Be informed before speaking; before sickness prepare the cure.
19 Prima di parlare, impara; curati ancor prima di ammalarti.	19 Before you are judged, seek merit for yourself, and at the time of visitation you will have a ransom.
20 Prima del giudizio esamina te stesso, così al momento del verdetto troverai perdono.	20 Before you have fallen, humble yourself; when you have sinned, show repentance.
21 Umìliati, prima di cadere malato, e quando hai peccato, mostra il pentimento.	21 Delay not to forsake sins, neglect it not till you are in distress.
22 Nulla ti impedisca di soddisfare a tempo un voto, non aspettare fino alla morte per sdebitarti.	22 Let nothing prevent the prompt payment of your vows; wait not to fulfill them when you are dying.
23 Prima di fare un voto prepara te stesso, non fare come un uomo che tenta il Signore.	23 Before making a vow have the means to fulfill it; be not one who tries the LORD.
24 Pensa all'ira del giorno della morte, al tempo della vendetta, quando egli distoglierà lo sguardo da te.	24 Think of wrath and the day of death, the time of vengeance when he will hide his face.
25 Pensa alla carestia nel tempo dell'abbondanza; alla povertà e all'indigenza nei giorni di ricchezza.	25 Remember the time of hunger in the time of plenty, poverty and want in the day of wealth.
26 Dal mattino alla sera il tempo cambia; e tutto è effimero davanti al Signore.	26 Between morning and evening the weather changes; before the LORD all things are fleeting.
27 Un uomo saggio è circospetto in ogni cosa; nei giorni del peccato si astiene dalla colpa.	27 A wise man is circumspect in all things; when sin is rife he keeps himself from wrongdoing.
28 Ogni uomo assennato conosce la sapienza e a colui che l'ha trovata rende omaggio.	28 Any learned man should make wisdom known, and he who attains to her should declare her praise;
29 Quelli istruiti nel parlare anch'essi diventano saggi, fanno piovere massime eccellenti.	29 Those trained in her words must show their wisdom, dispensing sound proverbs like life-giving waters.
30 Non seguire le passioni; poni un freno ai tuoi desideri.	30 Go not after your lusts, but keep your desires in check.
31 Se ti concedi la soddisfazione della passione, essa ti renderà oggetto di scherno ai tuoi nemici.	31 If you satisfy your lustful appetites they will make you the sport of your enemies.
32 Non godere una vita di piaceri, sua conseguenza è una doppia povertà.	32 Have no joy in the pleasures of a moment which bring on poverty redoubled;
33 Non impoverire scialacquando con denaro preso a prestito, quando non hai nulla nella borsa.	33 Become not a glutton and a winebibber with nothing in your purse.
