| 1 Ad Antiochia, erano profeti e dottori della Chiesa locale: Barnaba, Simeone detto il Negro, Lucio di Cirene, Manahèn, amico d’infanzia del tetrarca Erode Antipa, e Saulo. | 1 Now there were in the church at Antioch prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Symeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen who was a close friend of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. |
| 2 Durante un servizio liturgico del Signore Gesù, cioè un digiuno, si sentirono dire dallo Spirito Santo: «Riservate per me Barnaba e Saulo perché li ho destinati a una missione». | 2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." |
| 3 Allora, finito il digiuno, imposero loro le mani pronunciando una preghiera e li congedarono. | 3 Then, completing their fasting and prayer, they laid hands on them and sent them off. |
| 4 Essi pertanto sotto la spinta dello Spirito Santo scesero a Seleucia e di là fecero vela per Cipro. | 4 So they, sent forth by the holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and from there sailed to Cyprus. |
| 5 Una volta a Salamina, annunciarono l’evangelo nelle sinagoghe degli Ebrei, e Giovanni Marco era il loro aiutante. | 5 When they arrived in Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the Jewish synagogues. They had John also as their assistant. |
| 6 Traversata tutta l’isola fino a Pafo, là incontrarono un mago e falso profeta ebreo, certo Bar-Jesus, | 6 When they had traveled through the whole island as far as Paphos, they met a magician named Bar-Jesus who was a Jewish false prophet. |
| 7 il quale era al seguito del proconsole Sergio Paolo, ero intelligente. Il proconsole fece chiamare Barnaba e Saulo e domandò che gli esponessero l’evangelo. | 7 He was with the proconsul Sergius Paulus, a man of intelligence, who had summoned Barnabas and Saul and wanted to hear the word of God. |
| 8 Ma a loro faceva opposizione il mago Elimas — così si traduce l’altro suo nome — nella mira di distogliere il proconsole dalla fede. | 8 But Elymas the magician (for that is what his name means) opposed them in an attempt to turn the proconsul away from the faith. |
| 9 Allora Saulo, detto anche Paolo, riempito di Spirito Santo, lo fissò | 9 But Saul, also known as Paul, filled with the holy Spirit, looked intently at him |
| 10 e gli disse: «O uomo pieno di ogni frode e di ogni malizia, figlio del diavolo, nemico di ogni virtù, non cesserai di storcere le diritte vie del Signore? | 10 and said, "You son of the devil, you enemy of all that is right, full of every sort of deceit and fraud. Will you not stop twisting the straight paths of (the) Lord? |
| 11 Perciò adesso ecco che la mano del Signore si abbatte su di te: sarai temporaneamente cieco da non veder nemmeno il sole». In realtà su di lui piombò subito oscurità e buio ed egli si mise a girare qua e là cercando chi lo guidasse. | 11 Even now the hand of the Lord is upon you. You will be blind, and unable to see the sun for a time." Immediately a dark mist fell upon him, and he went about seeking people to lead him by the hand. |
| 12 Allora il proconsole, visto l’accaduto, abbracciò la fede, profondamente colpito dall’insegnamento cristiano. | 12 When the proconsul saw what had happened, he came to believe, for he was astonished by the teaching about the Lord. |
| 13 Messisi poi in mare a Pafo, Paolo e i suoi compagni andarono a Perge di Panfilia, e là Giovanni Marco si separò da loro per far ritorno a Gerusalemme. | 13 From Paphos, Paul and his companions set sail and arrived at Perga in Pamphylia. But John left them and returned to Jerusalem. |
| 14 Essi invece, partiti da Perge, si recarono ad Antiochia Pisidia, dove il sabato successivo andarono alla sinagoga e presero posto. | 14 They continued on from Perga and reached Antioch in Pisidia. On the sabbath they entered (into) the synagogue and took their seats. |
| 15 Finita la lettura della Legge e dei Profeti, i capi della sinagoga mandarono loro a dire: «Fratelli, se vi sentite di dire due parole di esortazione al popolo, parlate». | 15 After the reading of the law and the prophets, the synagogue officials sent word to them, "My brothers, if one of you has a word of exhortation for the people, please speak." |
| 16 Paolo allora si alzò, fece un cenno con la mano e prese a dire: «Figli d’Israele e voi credenti in Dio, ascoltate. | 16 So Paul got up, motioned with his hand, and said, "Fellow Israelites and you others who are God-fearing, listen. |
| 17 Il Dio del nostro popolo scelse i nostri padri, esaltò il nostro popolo durante il soggiorno in terra d’Egitto e di là lo fece uscire con manifesta potenza. | 17 The God of this people Israel chose our ancestors and exalted the people during their sojourn in the land of Egypt. With uplifted arm he led them out of it |
| 18 Poi per quasi quarant’anni li sopportò nella steppa, | 18 and for about forty years he put up with them in the desert. |
| 19 infine, dopo avere sterminato molte nazioni in terra di Canaan, assegnò loro il possesso di quelle terre, | 19 When he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land as an inheritance |
| 20 nel giro di circa quattrocentocinquant’anni. Dopodichè costituì dei giudici fino al profeta Samuele. | 20 at the end of about four hundred and fifty years. After these things he provided judges up to Samuel (the) prophet. |
| 21 Poi, siccome domandavano un re, Dio diede loro Saul, figlio di Cis, della tribù di Beniamino, per la durata di quarant’anni. | 21 Then they asked for a king. God gave them Saul, son of Kish, a man from the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years. |
| 22 Poi lo rimosse e come loro re suscitò Davide, cui rese questa testimonianza: “Ho trovato Davide, figlio di Jesse, uomo secondo il mio desiderio, che eseguirà ogni mia volontà”. | 22 Then he removed him and raised up David as their king; of him he testified, 'I have found David, son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will carry out my every wish.' |
| 23 Dalla sua progenie Dio, conforme alla promessa, suscitò a Israele come salvatore Gesù, | 23 From this man's descendants God, according to his promise, has brought to Israel a savior, Jesus. |
| 24 quando già Giovanni aveva preceduto la sua comparsa con la predicazione di un battesimo di ravvedimento a tutto il popolo ebreo. | 24 John heralded his coming by proclaiming a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel; |
| 25 Difatti, mentre Giovanni stava compiendo la sua missione, usava ripetere: lo non sono quel che voi credete, ma dietro di me sta già venendo uno a cui non sono degno di sciogliere, i calzari”. | 25 and as John was completing his course, he would say, 'What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. Behold, one is coming after me; I am not worthy to unfasten the sandals of his feet.' |
| 26 Fratelli, figli della stirpe di Abramo e voi altri credenti in Dio, questo messaggio di salvezza è stato inviato a noi. | 26 "My brothers, children of the family of Abraham, and those others among you who are God-fearing, to us this word of salvation has been sent. |
| 27 Gli abitanti di Gerusalemme e i loro capi non hanno riconosciuto questa persona, ma condannandolo hanno adempiuto le profezie che si leggono lungo i sabati. | 27 The inhabitants of Jerusalem and their leaders failed to recognize him, and by condemning him they fulfilled the oracles of the prophets that are read sabbath after sabbath. |
| 28 Pur non avendo trovato in lui nessun delitto capitale, pretesero che Pilato lo mettesse a morte: | 28 For even though they found no grounds for a death sentence, they asked Pilate to have him put to death, |
| 29 poi, appenà ebbero adempiute tutte le Scritture che lo riguardavano, lo fecero deporre dalla croce e mettere in una tomba. | 29 and when they had accomplished all that was written about him, they took him down from the tree and placed him in a tomb. |
| 30 Dio però lo risuscitò da morte, | 30 But God raised him from the dead, |
| 31 ed egli apparve durante molti giorni a quelli che lo avevano seguito dalla Galilea a Gerusalemme e che ora sono i suoi testimoni in faccia a Israele. | 31 and for many days he appeared to those who had come up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem. These are (now) his witnesses before the people. |
| 32 Perciò noi vi annunziamo che la promessa fatta da Dio ai nostri pasti | 32 We ourselves are proclaiming this good news to you that what God promised our ancestors |
| 33 Dio l’ha adempiuta in pro dei loro figli, di noi, col risuscitare Gesù, secondo quanto è scritto nel secondo Salmo: Tu sei il Figlio mio, io oggi ti ho generato. | 33 he has brought to fulfillment for us, (their) children, by raising up Jesus, as it is written in the second psalm, 'You are my son; this day I have begotten you.' |
| 34 Che lo abbia risuscitato da morte sì da non ritornar più nella corruzione, lo aveva pure detto in questi termini: Adempirò per voi le sicure grazie e promesse a Davide. | 34 And that he raised him from the dead never to return to corruption he declared in this way, 'I shall give you the benefits assured to David.' |
| 35 Ecco perché in un altro passo dice: Non permetterai che il tuo adoratore vada in corruzione. | 35 That is why he also says in another psalm, 'You will not suffer your holy one to see corruption.' |
| 36 Ora Davide, dopo avere al tempo suo servito i disegni di Dio, morì e si unì ai suoi padri e andò in corruzione, | 36 Now David, after he had served the will of God in his lifetime, fell asleep, was gathered to his ancestors, and did see corruption. |
| 37 mentre colui che Dio ha risuscitato non andò in corruzione. | 37 But the one whom God raised up did not see corruption. |
| 38 Insomma, vi sia noto, o fratelli, che per sua opera ora vi viene annunziato il perdono dei peccati. Di quanto non fu possibile essere giustificati mediante la legge di Mosè, | 38 You must know, my brothers, that through him forgiveness of sins is being proclaimed to you, (and) in regard to everything from which you could not be justified under the law of Moses, |
| 39 tutti i credenti vengono ora giustificati per mezzo di lui. | 39 in him every believer is justified. |
| 40 Fate quindi attenzione che non vi avvenga ciò che è stato detto negli scritti profetici: | 40 Be careful, then, that what was said in the prophets not come about: |
| 41 O spregiatori, badate, stupite e nascondetevi, nella vostra epoca sto per compiere un’opera tale che voi, anche sentendola, non credereste». | 41 'Look on, you scoffers, be amazed and disappear. For I am doing a work in your days, a work that you will never believe even if someone tells you.'" |
| 42 Mentre Paolo e Barnaba uscivano dalla sinagoga, furono pregati di parlare ancora di queste cose il prossimo sabato. | 42 As they were leaving, they invited them to speak on these subjects the following sabbath. |
| 43 Sciolta quindi adunanza, molti Giudei e credenti in Dio accompagnarono Paolo e Barnaba, e questi con caldi discorsi li persuasero a restar fedeli alla divina grazia. | 43 After the congregation had dispersed, many Jews and worshipers who were converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who spoke to them and urged them to remain faithful to the grace of God. |
| 44 Il sabato successivo quasi tutta la città si radunò per ascoltare l’evangelo. | 44 On the following sabbath almost the whole city gathered to hear the word of the Lord. |
| 45 Ma gli Ebrei, vedendo la folla, s’ingelosirono e reagirono con ingiurie a quanto Paolo andava dicendo. | 45 When the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and with violent abuse contradicted what Paul said. |
| 46 Paolo e Barnaba parlarono allora con franchezza: «Era necessario che a voi per primi venisse annunziato l’evangelo. Visto però che lo respingete e non vi giudicate degni della vita eterna, noi ci rivolgiamo ai pagani, | 46 Both Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and said, "It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you first, but since you reject it and condemn yourselves as unworthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles. |
| 47 poiché così ci ha comandato il Signore: Ti ho destinato come luce dei pagani perché tu sia come uno strumento di salvezza fino ai confini della terra». | 47 For so the Lord has commanded us, 'I have made you a light to the Gentiles, that you may be an instrument of salvation to the ends of the earth.'" |
| 48 I pagani, al sentire, salutarono con gioia il comando del Signore e quanti erano destinati alla vita eterna abbracciarono la fede. | 48 The Gentiles were delighted when they heard this and glorified the word of the Lord. All who were destined for eternal life came to believe, |
| 49 Così l’evangelo si propagava per tutta la regione. | 49 and the word of the Lord continued to spread through the whole region. |
| 50 I Giudei però istigarono nobili signore credenti in Dio e i notabili della città, così da suscitare una persecuzione contro Paolo e Barnaba e riuscire a scacciarli dal loro territorio. | 50 The Jews, however, incited the women of prominence who were worshipers and the leading men of the city, stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their territory. |
| 51 Essi, scossa contro di loro la polvere dei piedi, si recarono a Iconio. | 51 So they shook the dust from their feet in protest against them and went to Iconium. |
| 52 Ma i neofiti si, sentivano pieni di gaudio e di Spirito Santo. | 52 The disciples were filled with joy and the holy Spirit. |
