1 La mano di Jahve fu sopra di me, Jahve mi portò fuori in spirito e mi depose nella pianura che era piena di ossa.	1 The hand of Yahweh was on me; he carried me away by the spirit of Yahweh and set me down in themiddle of the val ey, a valley ful of bones.
2 Quindi mi fece passare tutt'intorno a esse — ed ecco, erano davvero in grandissimo numero sulla superficie della valle e del tutto inaridite —	2 He made me walk up and down and all around among them. There were vast quantities of thesebones on the floor of the val ey; and they were completely dry.
3 e mi domandò: « Figlio dell’uomo, possono rivivere queste ossa? ». Risposi: « Tu lo sai, Jahvel ».	3 He said to me, 'Son of man, can these bones live?' I said, 'You know, Lord Yahweh.'
4 Mi disse allora: « Profetizza a queste ossa e di’ loro: “ Ossa aride, udite la parola di Jahve.	4 He said, 'Prophesy over these bones. Say, "Dry bones, hear the word of Yahweh.
5 Così dice il Signore Jahve: Ecco, mando in voi un soffio e rivivrete.	5 The Lord Yahweh says this to these bones: I am now going to make breath enter you, and you willlive.
6 Su di voi porrò i nervi, farò crescere la carne, vi coprirò con la pelle, porrò infine in voi un soffio e tornerete in vita; saprete che io sono Jahve ” ».	6 I shal put sinews on you, I shal make flesh grow on you, I shal cover you with skin and give youbreath, and you wil live; and you wil know that I am Yahweh." '
7 Profetai come mi era stato comandato e, subito, si sentì un rumore, poi un grande frastuono: le ossa si avvicinarono ciascuno all’altro corrispondente.	7 I prophesied as I had been ordered. While I was prophesying, there was a noise, a clattering sound; itwas the bones coming together.
8 Vidi su di esse apparire i nervi, salire la carne e la pelle ricoprirle; mancava tuttavia l’alito vitale.	8 And as I looked, they were covered with sinews; flesh was growing on them and skin was coveringthem, yet there was no breath in them.
9 Mi disse allora: « Profetizza al soffio, profetizza, figlio dell’uomo, e parla: “ Così dice il Signore Jahve: Vieni, o soffio, dai quattro venti e spira in questi uccisi perchè riabbiano la vita” ».	9 He said to me, 'Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man. Say to the breath, "The Lord Yahwehsays this: Come from the four winds, breath; breathe on these dead, so that they come to life!" '
10 Profetai, come mi aveva comandato; subito, entrò in essi il soffio vitale ed essi rivissero e si drizzarono in piedi: era un esercito molto, molto grande.	10 I prophesied as he had ordered me, and the breath entered them; they came to life and stood up ontheir feet, a great, an immense army.
11 Quindi mi disse: « Figlio dell’uomo, queste ossa sono tutta la casa di Israele. Eccoli, vanno dicendo: “ Le nostre ossa sono inaridite, svanì la nostra speranza, ormai siamo finiti ”.	11 Then he said, 'Son of man, these bones are the whole House of Israel. They keep saying, "Ourbones are dry, our hope has gone; we are done for."
12 Perciò profetizza e parla loro: “ Così dice il Signore Jahve: Ecco, sto per aprire le vostre tombe; da esse vi farò uscire, o mio popolo, per ricondurvi nel paese di Israele.	12 So, prophesy. Say to them, "The Lord Yahweh says this: I am now going to open your graves; I shallraise you from your graves, my people, and lead you back to the soil of Israel.
13 Allora saprete che io sono Jahve, quando aprirò le vostre tombe e ne farò uscire voi, o mio popolo.	13 And you wil know that I am Yahweh, when I open your graves and raise you from your graves, mypeople,
14 Immetterò in voi il mio soffio e riavrete la vita, quindi vi installerò nel vostro paese; saprete così che io, Jahve, l’ho detto e compiuto ” ». Oracolo di Jahve.	14 and put my spirit in you, and you revive, and I resettle you on your own soil. Then you will know thatI, Yahweh, have spoken and done this -- declares the Lord Yahweh." '
15 Mi fu rivolta la parola di Jahve:	15 The word of Yahweh was addressed to me as fol ows,
16 « Ora tu, figlio dell’uomo, prendi un pezzo di legno e scrivici sopra: “ Giuda e i figli di Israele, suoi aderenti ”; prendine, poi, un altro e scrivici sopra: ‘“ Giuseppe, legno di Efraim, e tutta la casa di Israele, suoi aderenti ”.	16 'Son of man, take a stick and write on it, "Judah and those Israelites loyal to him." Take another stick and write on it, "Joseph (Ephraim's wood) and all the House of Israel loyal to him."
17 Quindi avvicinali l’uno all’altro in un sol legno, così da formare una cosa sola nella tua mano;	17 'Join one to the other to make a single piece of wood, a single stick in your hand.
18 quando i figli del mio popolo ti diranno: “ Non vorrai tu spiegarci tale significato hanno per te queste cose”,	18 And when the members of your nation say, "Wil you not tel us what you mean?"
19 rispondi loro: “ Così dice il Signore Jahve: Ecco, prendo il legno di Gitseppe, che sta nelle mani di Efraim, e le tribù di Israele collegate a esso e lo pongo sull’altro, cioè sul legno di Giuda, formandone un unico pezzo di legno così da divenire tutt’uno nella mia mano ”.	19 say, "The Lord Yahweh says this: I am taking the stick of Joseph (now in Ephraim's hand) and thosetribes of Israel loyal to him and shal join them to the stick of Judah. I shal make one stick out of the two, a singlestick in my hand."
20 Terrai in mano in loro presenza i pezzi di legno sui quali avrai scritto	20 'When the pieces of wood you have written on are in your hand in ful sight of them,
21 e riferirai loro: “ Così dice il Signore Jahve: Ecco, prendo i figli di Israele tra le genti dove sono andati, adunandoli da ogni parte, e li condurrò nel loro territorio.	21 say, "The Lord Yahweh says this: I shall take the Israelites from the nations where they have gone. Ishall gather them to- gether from everywhere and bring them home to their own soil.
22 Ne farò un solo popolo nel paese, sui monti di Israele, e tutti avranno un solo re; non formeranno più due popoli nè saranno più divisi in due regni.	22 I shal make them into one nation in the country, on the mountains of Israel, and one king is to beking of them al ; they will no longer form two nations, nor be two separate kingdoms.
23 Non si contamineranno più con i loro idoli vani e abominevoli, con tutte le loro ribellioni; dopo averli liberati da tutte le infedeltà per le quali hanno peccato, li purificherò perchè siano il mio popolo e io il loro Dio.	23 They will no longer defile themselves with their foul idols, their horrors and any of their crimes. I shallsave them from the acts of infidelity which they have committed and shal cleanse them; they will be my peopleand I shall be their God.
24 Su tutti il mio servitore David starà come re e unico pastore; essi seguiranno i miei decreti, custodiranno le mie leggi e le metteranno in pratica.	24 My servant David will reign over them, one shepherd for al ; they wil fol ow my judgements, respectmy laws and practise them.
25 Abiteranno nel paese che diedi al mio servitore Giacobbe e dove abitarono i vostri padri; vi abiteranno essi con i figli e i figli dei figli per sempre; per sempre David mio servitore sarà il loro principe.	25 They will live in the country which I gave to my servant Jacob, the country in which your ancestorslived. They wil live in it, they, their children, their children's children, for ever. David my servant is to be theirprince for ever.
26 Stringerò con essi un’alleanza di pace: sarà un’alleanza eterna; li beneficherò, li moltiplicherò e porrò per sempre il mio santuario in mezzo a loro.	26 I shal make a covenant of peace with them, an eternal covenant with them. I shal resettle them andmake them grow; I shall set my sanctuary among them for ever.
27 La mia dimora sarà, dunque, fra di loro: sarò il loro Dio ed essi saranno il mio popolo;	27 I shal make my home above them; I shall be their God, and they wil be my people.
28 le genti sapranno che io sono Jahve che santifico Israele quando il mio santuario sarà per sempre in mezzo a loro” ».	28 And the nations wil know that I am Yahweh the sanctifier of Israel, when my sanctuary is with themfor ever." '
