| 1 Se un uomo ripudia la sua: donna la quale, allontanatasi da lui, diviene di un altro uomo, ritornerà egli mai da lei? Forse una simile donna non è tutta contaminata? Ora ti sei: prostituita con molti amanti; e osi ritornare da me? Oracolo di Jahve. | 1 It is commonly said: If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and marry another man, shall he return to her any more? shall not that woman be polluted, and defiled? but thou hast prostituted thyself to many lovers: nevertheless return to me, saith the Lord, and I will receive thee. |
| 2 Alza gli occhi sui colli e osserva: dove non ti sei prostituita? Tu sedevi sulle vie aspettandoli, come fa l’Arabo nel deserto. Anche la terra hai contaminato con le tue prostituzioni e cattiverie. | 2 Lift up thy eyes on high: and see where thou hast not prostuted thyself: Thou didst sit in the ways, waiting for them as a robber in the wilderness: and thou hast polluted the land with thy fornications, and with thy wickedness. |
| 3 Per questo ti sono state rifiutate le piogge e gli acquazzoni tardivi non vennero. La tua fronte è divenuta come quella di una prostituta; non vuoi più arrossire. | 3 Therefore the showers were withholden, and there was no lateward rain: thou hadst a harlot's forehead, thou wouldst not blush. |
| 4 E ora forse non gridi verso di me: Padre mio! ‘Tu sei l’amico della giovinezza! | 4 Therefore at least at this time call to me: Thou art my father, the guide of my virginity: |
| 5 Serberà egli rancore per sempre? Conserverà l'ira sino alla fine? ”. Così parli, ma intanto commetti iniquità quando puoi ». | 5 Wilt thou be angry for ever, or wilt thou continue until the end? Behold, thou hast spoken, and hast done evil things, and hast been able. |
| 6 Jahve mi disse nei giorni del re Giosia: « Non hai visto ciò che ha fatto la ribelle Israele? Essa correva su ogni luogo elevato e sotto ogni albero frondoso per prostituirsi. | 6 And the Lord said to me in the days of king Josias: Hast thou seen what rebellious Israel hast done? she hath gone out of herself upon every high mountain, and under every green tree, and hath played the harlot there. |
| 7 Sì, io pensavo: “ Dopo che avrà fatto tutte queste cose ritornerà a me ”, ma essa non è ritornata. La perfida Giuda sua sorella ha visto ciò | 7 And when she had done all these things, I said: Return to me, and she did not return. And her treacherous sister Juda saw, |
| 8 e, sebbene avesse visto che ho cacciato via proprio per tutti i suoi adulteri la ribelle Israele, consegnandole il libello del divorzio, la perfida Giuda sua sorella non ha avuto alcun timore. Anch’essa è andata a prostituirsi; | 8 That because the rebellious Israel had played the harlot, I had put her away, and had given her a bill of divorce: yet her treacherous sister Juda was not afraid, but went and played the harlot also herself. |
| 9 ed è avvenuto che, per la facilità con cui si è prostituita, essa ha contaminato la terra; ha fornicato con la pietra e con il legno. | 9 And by the facility of her fornication she defiled the land, and played the harlot with stones and with stocks. |
| 10 Anche dopo tutto ciò, la perfida Giuda sua sorella non è ritornata a me con tutto il cuore, ma soltanto con falsità». Oracolo di Jahve. | 10 And after all this, her treacherous sister Juda hath not returned to me with her whole heart, but with falsehood, saith the Lord. |
| 11 Allora Jahve mi disse: « Israele ribelle si è mostrata più giusta della perfida Giuda. | 11 And the Lord said to me: The rebellious Israel hath justified her soul, in comparison of the treacherous Juda. |
| 12 Va’, annuncia tali cose verso il nord e di: “ Ritorna, o Israele ribelle. Oracolo di Jahve. Non ti mostrerò la mia faccia sdegnata, perchè io sono misericordioso. Oracolo di Jahve. Non conserverò l'ira per sempre ”. | 12 Go, and proclaim these words toward the north, and thou shalt say: Return, O rebellious Israel, saith the Lord, and I will not turn away my face from you: for I am holy, saith the Lord, and I will not be angry for ever. |
| 13 Orsù, riconosci la tua iniquità, perchè sei stata infedele a Jahve tuo Dio: hai profuso il tuo amore agli stranieri e non hai ascoltato la mia voce. Oracolo di Jahve. | 13 But yet acknowledge thy iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against the Lord thy God: and thou hast scattered thy ways to strangers under every green tree, and hast not heard my voice, saith the Lord. |
| 14 Ritornate, figli traviati, oracolo di Jahve, perchè io sono il vostro padrone. Io vi prenderò uno da ogni città e due da ciascuna famiglia e vi condurrò a Sion. | 14 Return, O ye revolting children, saith the Lord: for I am your husband: and I will take you, one of a city, and two of a kindred, and will bring you into Sion. |
| 15 Vi darò pastori secondo il mio cuore i quali vi faranno pascolare con scienza e intelligenza. | 15 And I will give you pastors according to my own heart, and they shall feed you with knowledge and doctrine. |
| 16 Quando, poi, vi sarete moltiplicati e sarete stati fecondi nella terra, in quei giorni — oracolo di Jahve — allora non parlerete più dell’arca dell’alleanza di Jahve; nessuno ci penserà nè ricorderà; essa non sarà più ricercata nè rifatta. | 16 And when you shall be multiplied, and increase in the land in those days, saith the Lord, they shall say no more: The ark of the covenant of the Lord: neither shall it come upon the heart, neither shall they remember it, neither shall it be visited, neither shall that be done any more. |
| 17 In quel tempo chiameranno Gerusalemme “trono di Jahve”; tutti i popoli si raduneranno in essa e non seguiranno più la caparbietà del loro cuore malvagio. | 17 At that time Jerusalem shall be called the thrown of the Lord: and all the nations shall be gathered together to it, in the name of the Lord to Jerusalem, and they shall not walk after the perversity of their most wicked heart. |
| 18 In quei giorni la casa di Giuda si riunirà alla casa di Israele e tutt’e due torneranno insieme dalla regione settentrionale, nella terra che io avevo concesso in eredità ai loro padri. | 18 In those days the house of Juda shall go to the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land which I gave to your fathers. |
| 19 E io pensavo: “Come vorrei preferirti tra i miei figli e darti una terra invidiabile, l’eredità più preziosa fra i popoli! ” e io pensavo: “ Voi mi chiamerete “ Padre mio e non tralascerete di seguirmi! ”. | 19 But I said: How shall I put thee among the children, and give thee a lovely land, the goodly inheritance of the armies of the Gentiles? And I said: Thou shalt call me father and shalt cease to walk after me. |
| 20 Ma come una donna è infedele al suo amante, così voi, casa di Israele, mi siete divenuti infedeli ». Oracolo di Jahve. | 20 But as a woman that despiseth her lover, so hath the house of Israel despised me, saith the Lord. |
| 21 Sui colli si ode una voce, pianto e gemiti dei figli di Israele, perchè hanno pervertito la loro condotta, si sono dimenticati di Jahve loro Dio. | 21 A voice was heard in the highways, weeping and howling of the children of Israel: because they have made their way wicked, they have forgotten the Lord their God. |
| 22 «Ritornate, figli traviati, io risanerò le vostre apostasie ». « Eccoci, noi veniamo a te perchè tu sei Jahve nostro Dio. | 22 Return, you rebellious children, and I will heal your rebellions. Behold we come to thee: for thou art the Lord our God. |
| 23 Veramente vane sono le colline, così pure il tumulto sui monti; veramente in Jahve nostro Dio è la salvezza di Israele. | 23 In very deed the hills were liars. and the multitude of the mountains: truly in the Lord our God is the salvation of Israel. |
| 24 La vergogna ha divorato fino alla nostra giovinezza il provento dei nostri padri, il loro bestiame minuto e il loro bestiame grosso, i loro figli e le loro figlie. | 24 Confusion hath devoured the labor of our fathers from our youth, their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters. |
| 25 Avvolgiamoci nella nostra vergogna, la nostra confusione ci ricopra, perchè abbiamo peccato contro Jahve nostro Dio, noi e i nostri padri dalla nostra giovinezza fino a oggi; non abbiamo ascoltato la voce di Jave nostro Dio ». | 25 We shall sleep in our confusion, and our shame shall cover us, because we have sinned against the Lord our God, we and our fathers from our youth even to this day, and we have not hearkened to the voice of theLord our God. |
