1 Di David. Non irritarti per i maligni; non invidiare coloro che operano l’iniquità.	1 [Of David] Do not get heated about the wicked or envy those who do wrong.
2 Perchè appassiscono in fretta come fieno e avvizziscono come erba verde.	2 Quick as the grass they wither, fading like the green of the fields.
3 Confida in Jahve e opera il bene: abiterai la terra e pascerai al sicuro.	3 Put your trust in Yahweh and do right, make your home in the land and live secure.
4 E dilettati in Jahve e ti concederà le richieste del tuo cuore.	4 Make Yahweh your joy and he will give you your heart's desires.
5 Volgi a Jahve la tua via e confida in lui ed egli farà.	5 Commit your destiny to Yahweh, be confident in him, and he wil act,
6 E farà spuntare la tua, giustizia come luce e il tuo giudizio come un meriggio.	6 making your uprightness clear as daylight, and the justice of your cause as the noon.
7 Acquietati in Jahve e spera in lui. Non irritarti per chi ha la via prospera, per l’uomo che fa scaltrezze.	7 Stay quiet before Yahweh, wait longingly for him, do not get heated over someone who is making afortune, succeeding by devious means.
8 Desisti dall’ira e abbandona lo sdegno; non irritarti perchè porta solo a fare male,	8 Refrain from anger, leave rage aside, do not get heated -- it can do no good;
9 perchè i maligni saranno stroncati; ma coloro che sperano in Jahve erediteranno la terra.	9 for evil-doers will be annihilated, while those who hope in Yahweh shal have the land for their own.
10 Ancora un poco e non sarà più l’empio, vorrai riconoscerne il posto e non sarà più.	10 A little while and the wicked wil be no more, however wel you search for the place, the wicked wilnot be there;
11 Ma i miseri erediteranno la terra e godranno il diletto di molta pace.	11 but the poor wil have the land for their own, to enjoy untroubled peace.
12 L’empio macchina contro il giusto; e digrigna contro di lui i suoi denti.	12 The wicked plots against the upright and gnashes his teeth at him,
13 Il Signore si fa beffe di lui perchè vede che verrà il suo giorno.	13 but Yahweh only laughs at his efforts, knowing that his end is in sight.
14 La spada sfoderano gli empi, tendono il loro arco per abbattere il misero e il povero, per scannare coloro che percorrono un cammino retto.	14 Though the wicked draw his sword and bend his bow to slaughter the honest and bring down thepoor and the needy,
15 La loro spada li raggiunge al cuore e il loro arco si spezza.	15 his sword will pierce his own heart, and his bow wil be shattered.
16 Meglio il poco del giusto che la molta abbondanza degli empi.	16 What little the upright possesses outweighs al the wealth of the wicked;
17 Perchè le braccia dell’empio si spezzano; mentre Jahve sostiene i giusti.	17 for the weapons of the wicked shal be shattered, while Yahweh supports the upright.
18 Jahve conosce i giorni dei perfetti e la loro eredità sarà in eterno.	18 The lives of the just are in Yahweh's care, their birthright wil endure for ever;
19 Non saranno confusi nell’ora cattiva e nei giorni della fame si sazieranno.	19 they wil not be put to shame when bad times come, in time of famine they wil have plenty.
20 Però i peccatori periranno e i nemici di Jahve come lo splendore dei prati svaniscono, svaniscono in fumo.	20 The wicked, enemies of Yahweh, wil be destroyed, they wil vanish like the green of the pasture, theywil vanish in smoke.
21 Prende a prestito il peccatore e non rende; ma il giusto è pietoso e benefico.	21 The wicked borrows and wil not repay, but the upright is generous in giving;
22 Perchè i benedetti da lui erediteranno la terra; ma i maledetti da lui saranno stroncati.	22 those he blesses will have the land for their own, and those he curses be annihilated.
23 Da Jahve dipendono i passi dell’uomo; lo rafforza e protegge la sua via.	23 Yahweh guides a strong man's steps and keeps them firm; and takes pleasure in him.
24 Poichè se cadrà non rimarrà prostrato, perchè Jahve sostiene la sua mano.	24 When he trips he is not thrown sprawling, since Yahweh supports him by the hand.
25 Giovane fui, invecchiai anche, ma non vidi il giusto derelitto e il suo seme mendicare il pane.	25 Now I am old, but ever since my youth I never saw an upright person abandoned, or the descendantsof the upright forced to beg their bread.
26 Tutto il giorno ha compassione e dà a prestito e il suo seme è in benedizione.	26 The upright is always compassionate, always lending, so his descendants reap a blessing.
27 Evita il male e opera il bene e starai in eterno.	27 Turn your back on evil and do good, you wil have a home for ever,
28 Perchè Jahve ama il giudizio e non abbandona i suoi fedeli. Gli empi in eterno saranno puniti e il seme degli empi reciso.	28 for Yahweh loves justice and wil not forsake his faithful. Evil-doers wil perish eternally, thedescendants of the wicked be annihilated,
29 I giusti erediteranno la terra e vivranno per sempre su di essa,	29 but the upright shal have the land for their own, there they shal live for ever.
30 La bocca del giusto esprime sapienza e la sua lingua parla diritto.	30 Wisdom comes from the lips of the upright, and his tongue speaks what is right;
31 La legge del suo Dio gli sta nel cuore, non vacillano i suoi passi.	31 the law of his God is in his heart, his foot wil never slip.
32 L’empio spia il giusto e cerca di ucciderlo.	32 The wicked keeps a close eye on the upright, looking out for a chance to kill him;
33 Jahve non lo abbandona nella sua mano nè lo lascia condannare in giudizio.	33 Yahweh will never abandon him to the clutches of the wicked, nor let him be condemned if he is tried.
34 Spera in Jahve e custodisci la sua via e ti esalterà a ereditare la terra; quando vengano recisi gli empi, vedrai.	34 Put your hope in Yahweh, keep to his path, he wil raise you up to make the land your own; you willook on while the wicked are annihilated.
35 Ho visto l’empio esultante e chiomato come albero fiorente.	35 I have seen the wicked exultant, towering like a cedar of Lebanon.
36 E passai ed ecco non c’era; e lo cercai e non lo trovai.	36 When next I passed he was gone, I searched for him and he was nowhere to be found.
37 Custodisci l’integrità e segui il diritto perchè c’è posterità per l’uomo pacifico.	37 Observe the innocent, consider the honest, for the lover of peace wil not lack children.
38 I delinquenti saranno distrutti insieme; la posterità degli empi stroncata.	38 But the wicked wil al be destroyed together, and their children annihilated.
39 La salvezza dei giusti viene da Jahve, il loro scampo nel tempo dell’angustia.	39 The upright have Yahweh for their Saviour, their refuge in times of trouble;
40 E li aiuta Jahve e li scampa; li scampa dagli empi e li salva, perchè in lui si rifugiano.	40 Yahweh helps them and rescues them, he wil rescue them from the wicked, and save them becausethey take refuge in him.
