Siracide 51

1 Orazione di Gesù Figliuolo di Sirach. Te loderò io, o Signore, e Re, e a te darò gloria, o Dio mio salvatore.	1 The prayer of Jesus, the son of Sirach: I will confess to you, O Lord and King, and I will give praise to you, O God my Saviour.
2 Grazie renderò al nome tuo, perché tu se' stato mio ajuto, e mio protettore.	2 I will acknowledge your name. For you have been my Helper and Protector.
3 Ed hai liberato il corpo mio dalla perdizione, e dal laccio della lingua perversa, e dalle labbra di quelli, che ordivano menzogne, e in faccia a' miei avversari mi hai dato soccorso.	3 And you have freed my body from perdition, from the snare of the iniquitous tongue, and from the lips of those who forge lies. And you have been my Helper in the sight of those who stood nearby.
4 E secondo la molta misericordia, onde tu prendi il nome, mi hai liberato da lioni, che ruggivano pronti a divorare,	4 And you have freed me according to the multitude of the mercy of your name: from those who roared and prepared to devour,
5 Dalle mani di que', che cercavano l'anima mia, e dal cadere nelle tribolazioni, ond'io fui circondato,	5 from the hands of those who sought my life, and from the gates of tribulation that surrounded me,
6 Dalla violenza delle fiamme, tralle quali era rinchiuso, e in mezzo al fuoco non ebbi calore;	6 from the oppression of the flames that surrounded me, and so I was not burned in the midst of the fire,
7 Dal seno profondo dell'inferno, e dalla impura lingua, dalle testimonianze bugiarde, da un re inique, e dalla ingiusta lingua:	7 from the depths of the bowels of hell, and from the defiled tongue, and from lying words, from an iniquitous king, and from an unjust tongue.
8 A Dio darà laude l'anima mia fino alla morte;	8 My soul shall praise the Lord, even unto death.
9 Perocché la mia vita fu presso a cadere laggiù nell'inferno.	9 For my life was drawing near to hell below.
10 Mi avean serrato da tutte parti, e non era chi mi porgesse soccorso; mirava se alcun uomo mi desse ajuto, ma ajuto non v'era.	10 And they surrounded me on every side. And there was no one who would help me. I looked around for the assistance of men, and there was none.
11 Mi ricordai di tua misericordia, o Signore, e delle cose fatte da te ab antico:	11 Then I remembered your mercy, O Lord, and your works, which are from the very beginning.
12 E come tu liberi coloro, cbe te aspettano, e li salvi dalle mani delle nazioni.	12 For you rescue those who persevere for you, O Lord, and you free them from the hands of the Gentiles.
13 Tu innalzasti la casa mia, sopra la terra, e te io supplicai per la morte, che tutto scioglie.	13 You exalted my habitation upon the earth, and I made supplication that death would pass away.
14 Io invocai il Signore padre del Signor mio, affinchè non mi abbandoni, senza soccorso nel giorno di mia afflizione, e mentre dominano i superbi.	14 I called upon the Lord, the Father of my Lord, so that he would not abandon me in the day of my tribulation, nor in the time of arrogance without assistance.
15 Darò laude al nome tuo, e continuamente il celebrerò con rendimenti di grazie, perché fu esaudita la mia orazione.	15 I will praise your name unceasingly, and I will praise it with thanksgiving, for my prayer was heeded.
16 E mi liberasti dalla perdizione, e mi salvasti dal tempo cattivo.	16 And you freed me from perdition, and you rescued me from the time of iniquity.
17 Per questo io ti renderò grazie, e a te darò laude, e benedirò il nome del Signore.	17 Because of this, I will give thanks and praise to you, and I will bless the name of the Lord.
18 Quand'io era tuttor giovanotto prima di inciampare in errori feci professione di cercar la sapienza colla mia orazione.	18 When I was still young, before I wandered astray, I sought wisdom openly in my prayer.
19 Io la domandava dinanzi al tempio, come sino all'estremo punto la cercherò; ed ella gettò il suo fiore come l'uva primaticcia.	19 I asked for her before the temple, and even to the very end, I will inquire after her. And she flourished like a newly-ripened grape.
20 Il mio cuore trovò in essa il suo gaudio; il mio piede battè la strada diritta; andai in cerca di lei fin dalla giovinezza.	20 My heart rejoiced in her. My feet walked in the right path. From my youth, I pursued her.
21 Chinai un poco le mie orecchie, e la ascoltai.	21 I bent my ear a little and accepted her.
22 E molta sapienza accolsi nella mia mente, e molto in essa mi avanzai.	22 I found much wisdom within myself, and I benefited greatly by her.
23 A lui, che mi da la sapienza, io darò gloria.	23 I will give glory to him who gives wisdom to me.
24 Perocché io mi son risoluto di metterla in pratica; ebbi zelo del bene, e non avronne rossore.	24 For I have decided that I should act according to wisdom. I have been zealous for what is good, and so I will not be confounded.
25 Per lei ha combattuto l'anima mia, e mi tengo costante nel seguitarla.	25 My soul has struggled for wisdom, and in doing so, I have been confirmed.
26 Stesi in alto le mie mani, e deplorai la stoltezza di quest'anima.	26 I extended my hands on high, and I mourned my ignorance of her.
27 Verso di lei dirizzai l'anima mia, e conosciuto (me) la trovai.	27 I directed my soul toward her, and I found her within knowledge.
28 Con lei possedei da principio il mio cuore; per questo non sarò abbandonato.	28 From the beginning, I held my heart to wisdom. Because of this, I will not be forsaken.
29 Nel cercar lei le mie viscere soffersero de' turbamenti, per questo possederò un gran bene.	29 My stomach was stirred up while seeking her. Because of her, I will hold a good possession.
30 Il Signore per min mercede mi ha dato la lingua, ed io con essa a luì darò laude.	30 The Lord has given me a tongue as my reward, and I will praise him with it.
31 Appressatevi a me, o ignoranti, e adunatevi nella casa di istruzione:	31 Draw near to me, you who are untaught, and gather yourselves into the house of discipline.
32 Perché tuttora tardate? E che rispondete a questo? le anime vostre son grandemente assetate.	32 Why are you reluctant? And what do you have to say about these things? Your souls are exceedingly thirsty!
33 Ho aperta la mia bocca, ed ho parlato: comperate senza spesa,	33 I have opened my mouth, and I have spoken. Buy wisdom for yourselves without silver,
34 E piegate al giogo il vostro collo, e l'anima vostra accolga la disciplina; perocché è facile il ritrovarla.	34 and subject your neck to her yoke, and let your soul accept her discipline. For she is close enough to be found.
35 Mirate cogli occhi vostri com'io faticai per un poco, ed ho trovato molta requie.	35 See with your own eyes how I have labored only a little, and have found much rest for myself.
36 Abbracciate la disciplina come un gran tesoro d'argento, e possedete con lei molto oro.	36 Take up discipline, as if it were a great sum of money, and possess an abundance of gold in her.
37 Si consoli l'anima vostra nella misericordia di Dio, e lodando lui non sarete confusi.	37 Let your soul rejoice in his mercy. For you will not be confounded by his praise.
38 Fate l'opera vostra per tempo, ed egli darà a voi la mercede vostra a suo tempo.	38 Accomplish your work before the time. And he will give you your reward in his time.
