1 Simone figliuolo di Onia sommo sacerdote, mentre visse rifondò la casa, e a' suoi tempi fu ristoratore del tempio.	1 Simon, the high priest, son of Onias: in his life, he propped up the house, and in his days, he strengthened the temple.
2 Egli parimente fondò l'altezza del tempio, il doppio edificio, e le alte mura attorno al tempio.	2 Even the height of the temple was established by him: the double building and the high walls of the temple.
3 A' tempi di lui i pozzi ebber copia di acque, e furon pieni oltre modo come un mare.	3 In his days, waters flowed out from the wells, and these were full beyond measure, like the sea.
4 Egli ebbe cura del suo popolo, e lo liberò dalla perdizione,	4 He cared for his nation, and he freed it from perdition.
5 Egli giunse a ingrandire la città, e si acquistò gloria vivendo in mezzo alla sua nazione, e ampliò l'ingresso del tempio.	5 He prevailed, so as to enlarge the city. And he obtained glory by his behavior among the people. And he enlarged the entrance of the house and of the atrium.
6 Come la stella del mattino tralla nebbia, e come splende la luna ne' giorni di sua pienezza;	6 He shined in his days like the morning star through the midst of a cloud, and like the full moon.
7 E come rifulge il sole, così egli rifulse nei tempio di Dio.	7 And he shined forth in the temple of God in this manner: like the sun when it shines brightly,
8 Come l'arcobaleno, che splende nelle chiare nuvole, e come il fior della rosa in tempo di primavera, e come i gigli presso alle acque, e come la pianta dell'incenso dà grato odore ai giorni di estate.	8 and like a rainbow shining amid clouds of glory, and like flowering roses in the days of spring, and like lilies along the water’s edge, and like sweet smelling frankincense in the days of summer,
9 Come lucida fiamma, e come incenso, che brugia nel fuoco.	9 like a fire shining brightly, and like frankincense burning within a fire,
10 Come un vaso di oro massiccio ornato di ogni sorta di pietre preziose.	10 like a vessel of solid gold, adorned with every precious stone,
11 Quasi ulivo, che mignola, e come il cipresso, che in alto si estolle; (cosi) quando egli prendeva il manto glorioso, e si rivestiva di tutti i suoi ornamenti,	11 like an olive tree producing buds, and like a cypress tree lifting itself on high, when he received the robe of glory and was vested with the consummation of virtue.
12 E salendo al santo altare faceva onore alle vestimenta sante.	12 He gave glory to the vestment of sanctity, when he ascended to the holy altar.
13 Quando dalle mani de' sacerdoti riceveva la parte dell'ostia, stando egli in piedi presso l'altare, attorniato da una corona di fratelli, come un alto cedro dalle minori piante sul monte Libano,	13 Then, when he received the portions from the hands of the priests, he himself stood next to the altar. And around him was the crown of his brethren, like a cedar planted on a mountain of Lebanon.
14 E come palma cinta da' suoi polloni; cosi attorno a lui si stavano tutti i figliuoli di Aronne nella loro magnificenza.	14 And they stood around him like palm branches, and all were sons of Aaron in their glory.
15 E tenevano nelle loro mani l'obblazione del Signore, presente tutta la adunanza di Israele; ed egli compiendo il sagrificio, per rendere più solenne la obblazione del Re altissimo.	15 Then the oblation of the Lord was in their hands, in the sight of the entire synagogue of Israel. And completing his service at the altar, so as to magnify the offering to the Most High King,
16 Stendeva la mano alla libagione, e versava il sangue dell'uva;	16 he extended his hand to make a libation, and he offered from the blood of the grape.
17 E lo spandeva appiè dell'altare in odore soavissimo all'altissimo Principe.	17 At the base of the altar, he poured out a divine fragrance to the Most High Prince.
18 Allora i figliuoli di Aronne alzavan le voci loro, suonavano le trombe tirate al martello, e facean sentire un gran concerto per riunovellare a Dio ricordanza.	18 Then the sons of Aaron shouted; they sounded finely-made trumpets, and they made a great noise, as a memorial in the sight of God.
19 Allora tutto il popolo insieme subitamente prostravasi colla faccia per terra per adorare il Signore Dio suo, e offrire sue preghiere all'onnipotente altissimo Iddio.	19 Then all the people at once hurried forward, and they fell to the ground on their faces, to adore the Lord their God, and to offer prayers to Almighty God Most High.
20 E alzavano le voci co' loro cantici, e nella gran casa cresceva il rimbombo pieno di soavità.	20 And the singers of Psalms raised their voices, and a full sweet sound increased in the great house.
21 E il popolo porgeva sue preci al Signore altissimo fino a tanto, che fosse terminato il culto di Dio, e compiuto il sagro ministero.	21 And the people petitioned the Most High Lord in prayer, even until the honor of the Lord was completed, and they finished offering their gifts.
22 Quindi il sommo sacerdote scendendo stendea le sue mani verso tutta la adunanza di Israele per dar gloria a Dio colle sue labbra, e celebrare il suo nome:	22 Then, descending, he extended his hands over the entire congregation of the sons of Israel, to give glory to God from his lips, and to glory in his name.
23 E replicava la sua orazione volendo far conoscere la possanza di Dio.	23 And he repeated his prayer, wanting to reveal the virtue of God.
24 Or voi adesso pregate il Dio di tutte le cose, il quale ha fatte cose gradi in tutta la terra, ed ha conservati i nostri giorni dall'utero della madre nostra, e noi ha trattati secondo la sua misericordia,	24 And now, pray to the God of all, who has accomplished great things over all the earth, who has increased our days from our mother’s womb, and who has acted toward us in accord with his mercy.
25 Affinchè egli dia a noi la contentezza del cuore, e che la pace regni in Israele a' di nostri, e per sempre;	25 May he give us joyfulness in heart, and may there be peace in our days, in Israel for unending days,
26 Onde creda Israele, che la misericordia di Dio è con noi ne' giorni suoi per liberarci.	26 so that Israel may trust the mercy of God to be with us, in order to free us in his days.
27 Due genti ha in avversione l'anima mia, e la terza, ch'io ho in avversione, non è gente:	27 Two nations my soul hates, and a third, which I hate, is not a nation:
28 Quelli, che risiedono sul monte Seir, e i Filistei, e il popolo stolto abitante in Sichein.	28 those who sit upon mount Seir, and the Philistines, and the foolish people who live at Shechem.
29 I documenti della sapienza, e della disciplina furono scrìtti in questo libro da Gesù figliuolo di Sjrach di Gerusalemme, il quale versò dal cuor suo nuova saggezza.	29 Jesus, the son of Sirach, of Jerusalem, who renewed wisdom from his heart, wrote the doctrine of wisdom and discipline in this book.
30 Beato colui, che fa suo studio di tali beni, e in cuor suo ne fa conserva. Egli sarà sempre saggio.	30 Blessed is he who lives by these good things. Whoever places these things in his heart will be ever wise.
31 Perocché facendo cosi sarà buono a tutto, perché la luce di Dio guida i suoi passi.	31 For if he does these things, he will prevail in all things. For the light of God is upon his footsteps.
