Prima lettera ai Corinzi 13

BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Quand'io parlassi le lingue degli uomini e degli Angeli, se non ho la carità sono come un bronzo che suona o un cembalo che squilla.	1 Though I command languages both human and angelic -- if I speak without love, I am no more than agong booming or a cymbal clashing.
2 E quando avessi la profezia e conoscessi tutti i misteri ed ogni scienza, e quando avessi tutta la fede, fino a trasportare i monti, se non ho la carità, sono un niente.	2 And though I have the power of prophecy, to penetrate al mysteries and knowledge, and though Ihave all the faith necessary to move mountains -- if I am without love, I am nothing.
3 E quando distribuissi tutto il mio per nutrire i poveri, e sacrificassi il mio corpo ad essere bruciato, se non ho la carità, nulla mi giova.	3 Though I should give away to the poor al that I possess, and even give up my body to be burned -- if Iam without love, it wil do me no good whatever.
4 La carità è paziente, la carità è benefica, la carità non è invidiosa, non è insolente, non si gonfia,	4 Love is always patient and kind; love is never jealous; love is not boastful or conceited,
5 non è ambiziosa, non cerca il proprio interesse, non s'irrita, non pensa male,	5 it is never rude and never seeks its own advantage, it does not take offence or store up grievances.
6 non gode dell'ingiustizia, ma si rallegra della verità.	6 Love does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but finds its joy in the truth.
7 Tutto scusa, tutto crede, tutto spera, tutto sopporta.	7 It is always ready to make al owances, to trust, to hope and to endure whatever comes.
8 La carità non verrà mai meno. Le profezie passeranno, cesseranno le lingue, la scienza avrà fine;	8 Love never comes to an end. But if there are prophecies, they will be done away with; if tongues, theywil fall silent; and if knowledge, it wil be done away with.
9 perché imperfettamente conosciamo e imperfettamente pro­fetiamo,	9 For we know only imperfectly, and we prophesy imperfectly;
10 e quando sarà venuta la perfezione ciò che è imperfetto dovrà sparire.	10 but once perfection comes, al imperfect things wil be done away with.
11 Quando ero bambino parlavo da bambino, avevo gusti da bambino, pensavo da bambino; ma fatto uomo ho smesso le cose che eran da bambino.	11 When I was a child, I used to talk like a child, and see things as a child does, and think like a child;but now that I have become an adult, I have finished with al childish ways.
12 Ora noi vediamo come in uno specchio, in modo enimmatico, ma allora vedremo faccia a faccia; ora conosco parzialmente, ma allora conoscerò come io sono conosciuto.	12 Now we see only reflections in a mirror, mere riddles, but then we shal be seeing face to face. Now Ican know only imperfectly; but then I shal know just as fully as I am myself known.
13 Rimangono per ora tutte e tre: fede, speranza e carità; ma la più grande di esse è la carità.	13 As it is, these remain: faith, hope and love, the three of them; and the greatest of them is love.
