1 Or mentre essi parlavano al popolo, sopraggiunsero i sacerdoti, il magistrato del tempio ed i Sadducei,	1 While they were stil talking to the people the priests came up to them, accompanied by the captain ofthe Temple and the Sadducees.
2 crucciati che istruissero il popolo ed annunziassero in Gesù la risurrezione da morte:	2 They were extremely annoyed at their teaching the people the resurrection from the dead by proclaimingthe resurrection of Jesus.
3 misero loro le mani addosso e li gettarono in prigione fino al giorno seguente, perchè era già sera.	3 They arrested them, and, as it was already late, they kept them in prison till the next day.
4 Ma molti di quelli che avevano udito il discorso, credettero, e il numero dei fedeli crebbe fino a cinque mila.	4 But many of those who had listened to their message became believers; the total number of men hadnow risen to something like five thousand.
5 Ed ecco, il giorno seguente, adunarsi in Gerusalemme i capi del popolo, gli anziani e gli scribi,	5 It happened that the next day the rulers, elders and scribes held a meeting in Jerusalem
6 e Anna sommo sacerdote, e Caifa, Giovanni, Alessandro, e quanti erari della casta sacerdotale:	6 with Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, Jonathan, Alexander and al the members of the high-priestlyfamilies.
7 e fattili comparire in mezzo a loro, li interrogarono: Con quale potere o in nome di chi avete fatto questo?	7 They made the prisoners stand in the middle and began to interrogate them, 'By what power, and bywhose name have you men done this?'
8 Allora Pietro ripieno di Spirito Santo, rispose loro: Capi del popolo, ed anziani, ascoltate:	8 Then Peter, fil ed with the Holy Spirit, addressed them, 'Rulers of the people, and elders!
9 Giacché oggi siam interrogati sul benefìcio fatto ad un malato, affìn di sapere in qual modo questo sia guarito,	9 If you are questioning us today about an act of kindness to a cripple and asking us how he was healed,
10 sia noto a voi tutti, e a tutto il popolo d'Israele, come in nome del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo Nazareno che voi crocifìggeste e Dio risuscitò da morte, in virtù di questo nome costui è sano dinanzi a voi.	10 you must know, all of you, and the whole people of Israel, that it is by the name of Jesus Christ theNazarene, whom you crucified, and God raised from the dead, by this name and by no other that this manstands before you cured.
11 Questa è la pietra riprovata da voi, costruttori, la quale è divenuta la pietra angolare.	11 This is the stone which you, the builders, rejected but which has become the cornerstone. Only in himis there salvation;
12 Nè c'è in altro salvezza. E non v'è altro nome sotto il cielo dato agli uomini in virtù del quale possiamo salvarci.	12 for of al the names in the world given to men, this is the only one by which we can be saved.'
13 Ed essi, udendo la costanza di Pietro e di Giovanni, saputo che erano illetterati, si maravigliarono; e riconoscevano che erano stati con Gesù;	13 They were astonished at the fearlessness shown by Peter and John, considering that they wereuneducated laymen; and they recognised them as associates of Jesus;
14 vedendo poi lì ritto quell'uomo che era stato guarito, non potevano dir nulla in contrario.	14 but when they saw the man who had been cured standing by their side, they could find no answer.
15 Ordinarono quindi ad essi di ritirarsi fuori dell'adunanza, e poi cominciarono a consultarsi tra loro:	15 So they ordered them to stand outside while the Sanhedrin had a private discussion.
16 Che potremo fare a costoro? L'evidente prodigio fatto per opera loro è noto a tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, e non possiamo negarlo.	16 'What are we going to do with these men?' they asked. 'It is obvious to everybody in Jerusalem that anotable miracle has been worked through them, and we cannot deny it.
17 Ma affinchè non si divulghi maggiormente tra il popolo, proibiamo loro con minaccia di non parlare mai più in questo nome ad alcuno.	17 But to stop the whole thing spreading any further among the people, let us threaten them against everspeaking to anyone in this name again.'
18 E, richiamatili, ingiunsero loro assolutamente di non parlare o insegnare nel nome di Gesù.	18 So they cal ed them in and gave them a warning on no account to make statements or to teach in thename of Jesus.
19 Ma Pietro e Giovanni risposero loro: Se sia giusto dinanzi a Dio l'ubbidire a voi piuttosto che a Dio, giudicatelo voi stessi,	19 But Peter and John retorted, 'You must judge whether in God's eyes it is right to listen to you and not toGod.
20 noi poi non possiamo non parlare di quello che abbiamo visto e udito.	20 We cannot stop proclaiming what we have seen and heard.'
21 Ma quelli dopo averli minacciati, li rimandarono, non trovando come castigarli, a cagion del popolo, tutti celebrando quel che era stato fatto,	21 The court repeated the threats and then released them; they could not think of any way to punish them,since al the people were giving glory to God for what had happened.
22 perché l'uomo su cui era stato operato il prodigio della guarigione aveva più di quarantanni.	22 The man who had been miraculously cured was over forty years old.
23 Rilasciati che furono, se ne andaron dai loro, e riferirono quanto avevari detto i capi dei sacerdoti e degli anziani.	23 As soon as they were released they went to the community and told them everything the chief priestsand elders had said to them.
24 E quelli, ciò udito, alzarono unanimi la voce a Dio, e dissero: Signore, tu che hai creato il cielo e la terra e il mare e tutto quanto è in essi,	24 When they heard it they lifted up their voice to God with one heart. 'Master,' they prayed, 'it is you who made sky and earth and sea, and everything in them;
25 tu che per mezzo dello Spirito Santo, e per bocca di David padre nostro e tuo servo hai detto: Perchè tumultuarono lo genti e i popoli han macchinati vani disegni?	25 it is you who said through the Holy Spirit and speaking through our ancestor David, your servant: Whythis uproar among the nations, this impotent muttering of the peoples?
26 Si fecero innanzi i re della terra e i principi si adunarono insieme contro il Signore e contro il suo Cristo.	26 Kings on earth take up position, princes plot together against the Lord and his Anointed.
27 Difatti in questa città, contro il tuo santo Figlio Gesù, da te unto, si son collegati Erode e Ponzio Pilato con i Gentili e col popolo d'Israele,	27 'This is what has come true: in this very city Herod and Pontius Pilate plotted together with the gentilenations and the peoples of Israel, against your holy servant Jesus whom you anointed,
28 per far quello che la tua mano e la tua volontà preordinò che si facesse.	28 to bring about the very thing that you in your strength and your wisdom had predetermined shouldhappen.
29 Ed ora, Signore, guarda le loro minacce, e concedi ai tuoi servi d'annunziare con tutta franchezza la tua parola,	29 And now, Lord, take note of their threats and help your servants to proclaim your message with alfearlessness,
30 stendendo la tua mano a risanare ed operare segni e miracoli per virtù del nome del tuo santo Figlio Gesù.	30 by stretching out your hand to heal and to work miracles and marvels through the name of your holyservant Jesus.'
31 E appena ebbero pregato, tremò il luogo dove stavano adunati e furono tutti pieni di Spirito Santo, e presero ad annunziare coraggiosamente la parola di Dio.	31 As they prayed, the house where they were assembled rocked. From this time they were all fil ed withthe Holy Spirit and began to proclaim the word of God fearlessly.
32 E la moltitudine dei credenti formava un solo cuore ed un'anima sola, nè c'era chi dicesse suo quello che possedeva, ma tutto era tra loro comune.	32 The whole group of believers was united, heart and soul; no one claimed private ownership of anypossessions, as everything they owned was held in common.
33 E gli Apostoli con grande efficacia rende van testimonianza della risurrezione di Gesù Cristo Signor nostro, e grazia grande era in tutti loro,	33 The apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus with great power, and they wereal accorded great respect.
34 e non c'era alcun bisognoso tra essi: perchè tutti quelli che possedevan terreni o case li vendevano e ne portavano il prezzo,	34 None of their members was ever in want, as al those who owned land or houses would sel them, andbring the money from the sale of them,
35 deponendolo ai piedi degli Apostoli, che si distribuiva a ciascuno, secondo il suo bisogno.	35 to present it to the apostles; it was then distributed to any who might be in need.
36 Così Giuseppe, dagli Apostoli soprannominato Barnaba che vuol dire figlio di consolazione, levita, oriundo di Cipro,	36 There was a Levite of Cypriot origin called Joseph whom the apostles surnamed Barnabas (whichmeans 'son of encouragement').
37 avendo un podere, lo vendette e portò il prezzo ai piedi degli Apostoli.	37 He owned a piece of land and he sold it and brought the money and presented it to the apostles.
