Isaia 57

1 Il giusto sparisce e nessuno ci ripensa nel suo cuore; gli uo­mini pii son rapiti, e non v'è chi ci rifletta: il giusto è raccolto davanti al male.	1 The just man perishes, but no one takes it to heart; Devout men are swept away, with no one giving it a thought. Though he is taken away from the presence of evil, the just man
2 Venga la pace, riposi nel suo letto chi ha segui­to il suo dritto cammino.	2 enters into peace; There is rest on his couch for the sincere, straightforward man.
3 Ma voi accostatevi qua, o figli dell'indovina, genia dell'adultero e della prostituta.	3 But you, draw near, you sons of a sorceress, adulterous, wanton race!
4 Sopra chi vi siete divertiti? Contro chi avete spalancata la bocca e messa fuori la lingua? Non siete voi i figli scellerati, la razza bastarda?	4 Of whom do you make sport, at whom do you open wide your mouth, and put out your tongue? Are you not rebellious children, a worthless race;
5 Voi che vi rallegrate negli dèi sotto ogni albero frondoso, immolate i bambini nei torrenti, dentro le caverne delle rupi.	5 You who are in heat among the terebinths, under every green tree; You who immolate children in the wadies, behind the crevices in the cliffs?
6 Nelle parti del torrente è la tua parte, ecco la tua sorte; laggiù spandesti la libazione, offristi il sacrifizio: e io non mi moverò a sdegno per tali cose?	6 Among the smooth stones of the wadi is your portion, these are your lot; To these you poured out libations, and brought offerings. Should I decide not to punish these things?
7 Sopra un monte alto e sublime ponesti il tuo letto, e vi salisti per immolar delle vittime.	7 Upon a high and lofty mountain you made your bed, and there you went up to offer sacrifice.
8 E dietro la porta e dietro le soglie collocasti il tuo ricordo, e vicino a me hai peccato, hai ricevuto l'adultero, hai allargato il tuo letto, hai fatti con essi i patti, hai amato di dormire con essi apertamente.	8 Behind the door and the doorpost you placed your indecent symbol. Deserting me, you spread out your high, wide bed; And of those whose embraces you love you carved the symbol and gazed upon it
9 Ti sei profumata con regio unguento, hai moltiplicati i tuoi belletti, hai mandati lontano i tuoi ambasciatori, ti sei abbassata sino all'inferno.	9 While you approached the king with scented oil, and multiplied your perfumes; While you sent your ambassadors far away, down even to the nether world.
10 Ti sei affannata nelle molte tue vie senza dire: « Riposerò ». Hai trovata la vita nelle tue mani, per questo non mi hai pregato.	10 Though worn out by your many misdeeds, you never said, "It is hopeless"; New strength you found, and so you did not weaken.
11 Per qual cosa stai inquieta e temi? Chè sei stata bugiarda, non ti sei ricordata di me, non hai pensato a me nel tuo cuore? Perchè io tacevo, facevo vista di non vedere, tu mi hai dimenticato.	11 Of whom were you afraid? Whom did you fear, that you became false And did not remember me or give me any thought? Was I to remain silent and unseeing, so that you would not have me to fear?
12 Io farò conoscere la tua giustizia, e le tue opere non ti gioveranno.	12 I will expose your justice and your works;
13 Quando tu alzerai le grida, ti liberino quelli da te radunati. Ma li porterà via tutti il vento, un leggero soffio li porterà via. Chi invece ha fiducia in me erediterà la terra e possederà la mia santa montagna.	13 They shall not help you when you cry out, nor save you in your distress. All these the wind shall carry off, the breeze shall bear away; But he who takes refuge in me shall inherit the land, and possess my holy mountain.
14 E dirò: « Fate la strada, preparate la via, sgombrate il sentiero, togliete gli ostacoli dal cammino del mio popolo.	14 Build up, build up, prepare the way, remove the stumbling blocks from my people's path.
15 Perchè così parla l'Altissimo, il Sublime che sta nell'eternità e si chiama il Santo, Egli abita nell'alto e nel Santo e collo spirito contrito ed umile per vivificare lo spirito degli umili, per render vita al cuore dei contriti.	15 For thus says he who is high and exalted, living eternally, whose name is the Holy One: On high I dwell, and in holiness, and with the crushed and dejected in spirit, To revive the spirits of the dejected, to revive the hearts of the crushed.
16 Io non litigherò in eterno, nè starò adirato per sempre; perchè lo spirito uscirà dalla mia faccia, e le anime le farò io.	16 I will not accuse forever, nor always be angry; For their spirits would faint before me, the souls that I have made.
17 Per la sua scellerata avarizia mi sono adirato, e l'ho colpito, celandomi pieno di sdegno, ed egli andò vagando nelle vie del suo cuore.	17 Because of their wicked avarice I was angry, and struck them, hiding myself in wrath, as they went their own rebellious way.
18 Io ho visti i suoi andamenti e ci ho messo un rimedio, l'ho fatto ritornare, ho rese a lui le consolazioni, a lui e ai suoi piangenti.	18 I saw their ways, but I will heal them and lead them; I will give full comfort to them and to those who mourn for them,
19 Ho creato il frutto delle labbra: pace: pace a chi è lontano e a chi è vicino — dice il Signore. — Io l'ho risanato.	19 I, the Creator, who gave them life. Peace, peace to the far and the near, says the LORD; and I will heal them.
20 Ma gli empi sono come mare in tempesta che non può star fermo, i cui flutti rigettano schiuma e fango.	20 But the wicked are like the tossing sea which cannot be calmed, And its waters cast up mud and filth.
21 Non v'è pace per gli empi — dice il Signore Iddio ».	21 No peace for the wicked! says my God.
