| 1 Sorgi, sorgi, rivestiti della tua forza, o Sion, vestiti a festa, o Gerusalemme, città del Santo; perchè l'incirconciso e l'immondo non ti attraverseranno più. | 1 Awake, awake, put on your strength, O Zion; put on your beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city; for there shall no more come into you the uncircumcised and the unclean. |
| 2 Scuoti la tua polvere; sorgi; mettiti a sedere, o Gerusalemme, scuoti dal tuo collo il giogo, o schiava figlia di Sion; | 2 Shake yourself from the dust, arise, O captive Jerusalem; loose the bonds from your neck, O captive daughter of Zion. |
| 3 perchè così parla il Signore: « Senza prezzo siete stati venduti, e senza danaro sarete riscattati. | 3 For thus says the LORD: "You were sold for nothing, and you shall be redeemed without money. |
| 4 Ecco infatti quanto dice il Signore Dio: — Da principio il mio popolo discese in Egitto per starvi come forestiero, poi, senza alcun motivo, lo maltrattò Assur. | 4 For thus says the Lord GOD: My people went down at the first into Egypt to sojourn there, and the Assyrian oppressed them for nothing. |
| 5 Ed ora che ci faccio io qui — dice il Signore — dopo che il mio popolo è stato menato schiavo senza ragione? I suoi padroni l'opprimono — dice il Signore — e di continuo, per tutto il giorno è bestemmiato il mio nome. | 5 Now therefore what have I here, says the LORD, seeing that my people are taken away for nothing? Their rulers wail, says the LORD, and continually all the day my name is despised. |
| 6 Per questo il mio popolo conoscerà il mio nome, in quel giorno, perchè io stesso, quello che parlava, ecco sono presente ». | 6 Therefore my people shall know my name; therefore in that day they shall know that it is I who speak; here am I." |
| 7 Quanto son belli, sui monti, i piedi del messaggero, del messaggero di pace, di colui che annunzia la felicità e predica la salute, di colui che dice a Sion: « Regnerà il tuo Dio ». | 7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good tidings, who publishes peace, who brings good tidings of good, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, "Your God reigns." |
| 8 Voce delle tue sentinelle: esse alzano la voce, per cantare insieme inni di lode, perchè vedranno coi loro occhi quando il Signore farà tornare Sion. | 8 Hark, your watchmen lift up their voice, together they sing for joy; for eye to eye they see the return of the LORD to Zion. |
| 9 Rallegratevi, unitevi a cantare inni, o rovine di Gerusalemme, perchè il Signore ha consolato il suo popolo, ha redenta Gerusalemme. | 9 Break forth together into singing, you waste places of Jerusalem; for the LORD has comforted his people, he has redeemed Jerusalem. |
| 10 Il Signore ha pronto il suo santo braccio davanti agli occhi di tutte le nazioni: tutte le parti della terra vedranno la salvezza del nostro Dio. | 10 The LORD has bared his holy arm before the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God. |
| 11 Partite, partite, uscite di là, non toccate ciò che è impuro: uscitene di mezzo, purificatevi, voi che portate i vasi del Signore. | 11 Depart, depart, go out thence, touch no unclean thing; go out from the midst of her, purify yourselves, you who bear the vessels of the LORD. |
| 12 Voi non partirete in disordine, non andrete via fuggendo, perchè andrà dinanzi a voi il Signore, vi adunerà il Dio d'Israele. | 12 For you shall not go out in haste, and you shall not go in flight, for the LORD will go before you, and the God of Israel will be your rear guard. |
| 13 Ecco che il mio servitore sarà intelligente, sarà esaltato, inalzato e molto sublime. | 13 Behold, my servant shall prosper, he shall be exalted and lifted up, and shall be very high. |
| 14 Come molti si son maravigliati di te! Sarà disprezzato il suo aspetto tra gli uomini, e la sua faccia tra i figli degli uomini. | 14 As many were astonished at him-- his appearance was so marred, beyond human semblance, and his form beyond that of the sons of men-- |
| 15 Egli aspergerà molte genti, dinanzi a lui i re staranno a bocca chiusa, perchè lo vedranno, e nessuno aveva loro raccontato di lui, lo contempleranno, e non ne avevan sentito parlare. | 15 so shall he startle many nations; kings shall shut their mouths because of him; for that which has not been told them they shall see, and that which they have not heard they shall understand. |
