1 (Salmo graduale ). Se non fosse stato in mezzo a noi il Signore, lo dica ora Israele,	1 A Song of Ascents. To thee I lift up my eyes, O thou who art enthroned in the heavens!
2 Se non fosse stato in mezzo a noi il Signore quando gli uomini insorsero contro di noi,	2 Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, till he have mercy upon us.
3 Forse ci avrebbero già ingoiati vivi quando furibondi contro di noi s'avventarono,	3 Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us, for we have had more than enough of contempt.
4 Forse le acque ci avrebbero inghiottiti.	4 Too long our soul has been sated with the scorn of those who are at ease, the contempt of the proud.
5 L'anima nostra passò il torrente, forse l'anima nostra avrebbe dovuto passare acque intollerabili.
6 Sia benedetto il Signore, che non ci lasciò in preda dei loro denti.
7 L'anima nostra, come un passero, fu liberata dal laccio dei cacciatori: il laccio fu infranto e noi fummo liberati.
8 Il nostro aiuto è nel nome del Signore che creò il cielo e la terra.
