1 - Frattanto, nel settimo mese, Ismael figlio di Natania, figlio di Elisama, di sangue reale, coi nobili del regno, presi dieci altri uomini seco, venne in Masfa a Godolia, figlio di Aicam, che li volle suoi commensali ivi in Masfa.	1 And it came to pass in the seventh month, that Ismahel the son of Nathanias, the son of Elisama of the royal blood, and the nobles of the king, and ten men with him, came to Godolias the son of Ahicam into Masphath: and they ate bread there together in Masphath.
2 Ma Ismael figlio di Natania e i dieci uomini che aveva seco, levatisi, percossero Godolia figlio di Aicam, figlio di Safan, a colpi di spada e lo ammazzarono, pur essendo egli il governatore del paese messo dal re di Babilonia.	2 And Ismahel the son of Nathanias arose, and the ten men that were with him, and they struck Godolias the son of Ahicam, the son of Saphan with the sword, and slew him whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.
3 E anche dei Giudei che erano con Godolia in Masfa e dei Caldei che furono trovati ivi e della gente d'arme, Ismael fece tutta una strage.	3 Ismahel slew also all the Jews that were with Godolias in Masphath, and the Chaldeans that were found there, and the soldiers.
4 Il giorno appresso l'uccisione di Godolia, che non si era saputa da nessuno ancora,	4 And on the second day after he had killed Godolias, no man yet knowing it,
5 giunsero degli uomini di Sichem, da Silo e da Samaria, ottanta uomini, rasi la barba, colle vesti squarciate e squallidi, e recavano nelle loro mani doni e incensi per offrirli nella casa del Signore.	5 There came some from Sichem, and from Silo, and from Samaria, fourscore men, with their beards shaven, and their clothes rent, and mourning: and they had offerings and incense in their hand, to offer in the house of the Lord.
6 Allora Ismael, figlio di Natania, uscito fuori di Masfa, si avanzò ad incontrarli a lenti passi e piangendo e giunto a loro incontro disse: «Voi venite a Godolia, figlio di Aicam».	6 And Ismahel the son of Nathanias went forth from Masphath to meet them, weeping all along as he went: and when he had met them, he said to them: Come to Godolias, the son of Ahicam.
7 Arrivati così nel centro della città, Ismael figlio di Natania, ne fece una carneficina, là nel mezzo, attorno alla cisterna, egli stesso e gli uomini che erano con lui.	7 And when they were come to the midst of the city, Ismahel the son of Nathanias, slew them, and cast them into the midst of the pit, he and the men that were with him.
8 Fra costoro si trovarono dieci uomini i quali dissero a Ismael: «Non ci ammazzare, perchè abbiamo alla campagna provvigioni di frumento, orzo, olio e miele». Allora ristette e non li ammazzò coi loro compagni.	8 But ten men were found among them, that said to Ismahel : Kill us not: for we have stores in the field, of wheat, and barley, and oil, and honey. And he forbore, and slew them not with their brethren.
9 La cisterna nella quale Ismael gettò tutti i cadaveri degli uomini che aveva assassinato, in conseguenza di Godolia, è quella che fece il re Asa per causa di Baasa re d'Israele; Ismael , figlio di Natania, la riempì dei corpi degli uccisi.	9 And the pit into which Ismahel cast all the dead bodies of the men whom he slew because of Godolias, is the same that king Asa made, for fear of Baasa the king of Israel: the same did Ismahel the son of Nathanias fill with them that were slain.
10 Poi Ismael prese prigione tutto il restante del popolo che era in Masfa, le figlie del re, e tutti quei residui di popolazione che erano rimasti in Masfa, che Nabuzardan, capo delle milizie aveva dato in custodia a Godolia, figlio di Aicam. E Ismael, figlio di Natania, li prese prigionieri e si incamminò per passare ai figli di Ammon.	10 Then Ismahel carried away captive all the remnant of the people that were in Masphath : the king's daughters, and all the people that remained in Masphath: whom Nabuzardan the general of the army had committed to Godolias the son of Ahicam. And Ismahel the son of Nathanias took them, and he departed, to go over to the children of Ammon.
11 Intanto Joanan, figlio di Caree e tutti i condottieri d'armi ch'eran con lui intesero tutto il male che Ismael figlio di Natania aveva perpetrato;	11 But Johanan the son of Caree, and all the captains of the fighting men that were with him, heard of the evil that Ismahel the son of Nathanias had done.
12 onde, raccolti tutti gli uomini, marciarono per piombare addosso a Ismael, figlio di Natania, e lo trovarono presso le abbondanti acque di Gabaon.	12 And taking all the men, they went out to fight against Ismahel the son of Nathanias, and they found him by the great waters that are in Gabaon.
13 Non appena il popolo che era con Ismael vide Joanan figlio di Caree e tutti i condottieri d'armi ch'eran con lui, si rasserenò.	13 And when all the people that were with Ismahel, had seen Johanan the son of Caree, and all the captains of the fighting men that were with him, they rejoiced.
14 E ripiegando tutto insieme il popolo che Ismael aveva fatto prigioniero in Masfa, si voltò e si slanciò verso Joanan figlio di Caree.	14 And all the people whom Ismahel had taken, went back to Masphath: and they returned and went to Johanan the son of Caree.
15 Ismael, figlio di Natania invece con otto uomini si sottrasse colla fuga alla presenza di Joanan, e se ne andò ai figli di Ammon.	15 But Ismahel the son of Nathanias fled with eight men, from the face of Johanan, and went to the children of Ammon.
16 Allora Joanan, figlio di Caree, e tutti i condottieri d'armi che erano con lui presero questi residui della popolazione che avevano riscosso dalle mani di Ismael, figlio di Natania, e da questo tolta da Masfa, dopo che aveva assassinato Godolia, figlio di Aicam, forti uomini di guerra e donne e fanciulli ed eunuchi che aveva ricondotto da Gabaon,	16 Then Johanan the son of Caree, and all the captains of the soldiers that were with him, took all the remnant of the people whom they had recovered from Ismahel the son of Nathanias, from Masphath, after that he had slain Godolias the son of Ahicam: valiant men for war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought back from Gabaon:
17 e si partirono e si fermarono campeggiando in Camaam, nei pressi di Betlemme, per poi proseguire ed entrare in Egitto,	17 And they departed, and sat as sojourners in Chamaam, which is near Bethlehem: in order to go forward, and enter into Egypt,
18 lungi dalla presenza dei Caldei; avevano infatti paura di essi, dopo che Ismael, figlio di Natania, aveva assassinato Godolia, figlio di Aicam, che il re di Babilonia aveva messo governatore nel paese di Giuda.	18 From the face of the Chaldeans: for they were afraid of them, because Ismahel the son of Nathanias had slain Godolias the son of Ahicam, whom the king of Babylon had made governor in the land of Juda.
