Sapienza 7

1 Sono anch'io un uomo mortale al pari di tutti, e rampollo di colui che primo fu plasmato di terra. E nel seno di mia madre fui formato [uomo di] carne,	1 Certainly, I myself am also a mortal man, like everyone, and the offspring of this earth, which was made beforehand; and in my mother’s womb I was fashioned with care,
2 coagulato in sangue nello spazio di dieci mesi, dal seme dell'uomo e dal godimento che accompagna il sonno.	2 within the time of ten months, made of blood, from the seed of man and the delight of sleeping together.
3 Anch' io, nato che fui, respirai l'aria comune, e caddi sulla medesima terra, e la prima voce che mandai, come quella di tutti, fu un vagito.	3 And when I was born, I drew in the common air, and in similar fashion, I fell upon the earth, and the first voice I uttered, like everyone, was crying.
4 Fui nutrito in fasce e con grandi cure.	4 I was nursed in swaddling clothes and with great care.
5 Nessun re ebbe altro principio di nascita;	5 For none of the kings had any other beginning of birth.
6 ma uno stesso per tutti è l'ingresso alla vita e uguale l'uscita!	6 Therefore, there is only one entrance for everyone into life, and the same in leaving.
7 Perciò implorai e mi fu data la prudenza, invocai e venne in me lo spirito di sapienza.	7 Because of this, I chose, and understanding was given to me; and I prayed, and the spirit of wisdom came to me;
8 E l'anteposi a scettri e a troni, e ritenni un nulla la ricchezza a confronto di lei.	8 and I placed her before kingdoms and thrones, and I considered riches nothing in comparison with her.
9 Nè misi a un pari con essa le pietre preziose, giacché tutto l'oro in paragone di lei è appena un po' di sabbia, e come fango si stimerà l'argento di fronte a lei.	9 Neither did I compare to her a precious stone, for all gold in comparison with her is like a little sand, and silver, in view of her, will be valued as if dirt.
10 L'amai più della salute e della bellezza, e preferii il suo possesso a quello della luce, perchè inestinguibile è il suo splendore.	10 I loved her above health and beauty, and I placed having her before light, for her light is unfailing.
11 Mi vennero poi con essa tutti i beni insieme, e infinita ricchezza per mano di lei.	11 Yet all good things came to me together with her, and innumerable honors by her hand;
12 E ho goduto di tutti [questi beni], perchè d'essl è guida la sapienza; ma ignoravo ch'ella ne fosse la madre.	12 and I rejoiced in all these, because this wisdom went before me, although I did not know that she is the mother of them all.
13 Senz'inganno l'ho imparata e senza invidia la comunico, nè tengo nascosta la sua ricchezza.	13 This I have learned without falsehood and communicate without envy, and her integrity I do not hide.
14 Perchè inesauribile tesoro è desso per gli uomini, e quei che ne fanno uso, si procaccian presso Dio amicizia, raccomandati [a lui] dai doni dell’istruzione.	14 Indeed, she is an infinite treasure chest for men, and those who make use of it, become partakers in the friendship of God, because they are recommended by the gifts of instruction.
15 Mi conceda Iddio di parlar come vorrei, e di nutrir pensieri degni de’ doni ricevuti; perchè egli è guida della sapienza e modera i sapienti.	15 Yet God has given to me to speak my mind, and to conceive thoughts worthy of those things that are given to me, because he is the leader of wisdom and the repairer of understanding.
16 In mano di lui siam noi e le nostre parole e ogni saggezza e perizia e arte dell’operare.	16 For in his hand are both we, and our words, and all wisdom, and the works of science, and instruction.
17 È lui che m’ha dato la scienza vera delle cose, si da conoscer la compagine del mondo e la virtù degli elementi,	17 For he has given me true knowledge of these things which exist: so as to know the orderly arrangement of the world, and the powers of the elements,
18 il principio e la fine e il mezzo de' tempi, i periodi de' solstizi e i mutamenti delle stagioni,	18 the beginning and the end and the midpoint of the seasons, the characteristics of changing things, and the divisions of time,
19 i cieli degli anni e le posizioni delle stelle,	19 the courses of the years, and the orderly arrangement of the stars,
20 le nature degli animali e i violenti istinti delle fiere, la forza de’ vènti e i pensieri degli uomini, le varietà delle piante e le virtù delle radici.	20 the natures of animals, and the rage of wild beasts, the force of winds, and the reasonings of men, the diversities of plants, and the benefits of roots,
21 Ciò ch'è nascosto e palese, tutto io ho imparato, perchè l’artefice d’ogni cosa, la sapienza, è stata la mia maestra.	21 and all such things as are hidden and unexpected, I have learned; for wisdom, the artisan of all things, taught me.
22 C’è in essa, infatti, uno spirito intelligente, santo, unico, molteplice, sottile, lucido, agile, senza macchia, infallibile, mite, amante del bene, acuto, incoercibile, benefico,	22 For in her is the spirit of understanding: holy, singular, manifold, subtle, perceptive, lively, chaste, reliable, gracious, loving, good, astute, who forbids nothing beneficial,
23 amico degli uomini, benigno, costante, sicuro, tranquillo, che tutto può, tutto invigila, che penetra tutti gli spiriti intelligenti, puri, sottilissimi.	23 humane, kind, steadfast, trustworthy, secure, having all virtue, watching for all things and grasping all things with a pure and most delicate understanding of spirit.
24 D’ogni moto infatti è più mobile la sapienza, e arriva [e penetra] per tutto a cagione della sua purezza,	24 For wisdom is more active than all active things, yet she reaches everywhere because of her purity.
25 Perchè ell'è un soffio della potenza di Dio e pura emanazione della gloria dell'Onnipotente; perciò nulla d’inquinato può cadere in essa.	25 For she is a breath of the virtue of God and a genuine emanation from the purity of the almighty God, and therefore nothing unclean can invade her.
26 È un riflesso d’eterna luce e terso specchio della maestà di Dio e immagine della sua bontà.	26 Indeed, she is the brightness of eternal light, and the unspotted mirror of the majesty of God, and the image of his goodness.
27 È unica e può tutto, resta [immutata] in sè e tutto rinnuova, e attraverso le generazioni diffondendosi nelle anime sante, [ne] fa amici di Dio e profeti.	27 And though she is one, she can do all things; and, unchanging in herself, she renews all things, and throughout the nations she conveys herself to holy souls, establishing them as friends and prophets of God.
28 Dio infatti non ama se non chi coabita con la sapienza.	28 For God loves none but those who dwell with wisdom.
29 Ell’ è invero più bella del sole e più di qualsiasi costellazione. Paragonata alla luce, appare superiore;	29 For she is more spectacular than the sun, and above the array of all the stars; compared with the light, she is found to be before it.
30 perchè a questa succede la notte, ma la sapienza non è [mai] sopraffatta dalla malvagità.	30 Indeed, after her comes night, but wisdom will not be overcome by malice.
