| 1 - Allora tutti gli anziani di Israele coi principi delle tribù e i capi delle famiglie d'Israele si riunirono presso il re Salomone in Gerusalemme per trasportare l'arca dell'alleanza del Signore dalla città di Davide, cioè da Sion. | 1 Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel and all the heads of the tribes, the leaders of the fathers' houses of the people of Israel, before King Solomon in Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David, which is Zion. |
| 2 Tutto Israele si radunò presso il re Salomone nel mese di Etanim, che è il mese settimo, nel giorno solenne. | 2 And all the men of Israel assembled to King Solomon at the feast in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh month. |
| 3 Venuti tutti gli anziani d'Israele, i sacerdoti levarono l'arca | 3 And all the elders of Israel came, and the priests took up the ark. |
| 4 e portarono l'arca del Signore e il tabernacolo dell'alleanza e tutti gli oggetti del santuario che si trovavano nel tabernacolo; i sacerdoti e i leviti eseguirono il trasporto. | 4 And they brought up the ark of the LORD, the tent of meeting, and all the holy vessels that were in the tent; the priests and the Levites brought them up. |
| 5 Il re Salomone poi e tutta la moltitudine di Israele che si era riunita intorno a lui, camminavano con lui davanti all'arca e immolavano buoi e pecore senza badare a spesa o a numero. | 5 And King Solomon and all the congregation of Israel, who had assembled before him, were with him before the ark, sacrificing so many sheep and oxen that they could not be counted or numbered. |
| 6 I sacerdoti portarono l'arca dell'alleanza del Signore al posto destinatole, nell'oracolo del tempio, nel Santo dei Santi, sotto le ali dei cherubini, | 6 Then the priests brought the ark of the covenant of the LORD to its place, in the inner sanctuary of the house, in the most holy place, underneath the wings of the cherubim. |
| 7 poichè i cherubini avevano le ali spiegate sul posto dell'arca e proteggevano dall'alto l'arca e le sue stanghe. | 7 For the cherubim spread out their wings over the place of the ark, so that the cherubim made a covering above the ark and its poles. |
| 8 Le stanghe avevano una lunghezza tale che le loro estremità apparivano dal di fuori nel santuario davanti all'oracolo, ma non si vedevano all'esterno. Esse si trovano ancora colà fino a questi giorni. | 8 And the poles were so long that the ends of the poles were seen from the holy place before the inner sanctuary; but they could not be seen from outside; and they are there to this day. |
| 9 Nell'arca non vi era altro che le due tavole di pietra, ivi deposte da Mosè sul monte Oreb, quando il Signore strinse l'alleanza coi figli d'Israele, al loro uscire dall'Egitto. | 9 There was nothing in the ark except the two tables of stone which Moses put there at Horeb, where the LORD made a covenant with the people of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt. |
| 10 Al momento in cui i sacerdoti uscivano dal santuario, la nube riempì la casa del Signore | 10 And when the priests came out of the holy place, a cloud filled the house of the LORD, |
| 11 e non poterono i sacerdoti restarvi a prestare il loro servizio a causa della nube, poichè la gloria del Signore riempiva la casa del Signore. | 11 so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud; for the glory of the LORD filled the house of the LORD. |
| 12 Disse allora Salomone: «Il Signore ha detto di voler abitare nella nube. | 12 Then Solomon said, "The LORD has set the sun in the heavens, but has said that he would dwell in thick darkness. |
| 13 Io ho edificato la casa per tua abitazione, per tuo trono solidissimo in eterno». | 13 I have built thee an exalted house, a place for thee to dwell in for ever." |
| 14 Poi voltosi indietro, il re benedisse tutta l'assemblea d'Israele, che se ne stava diritta in piedi | 14 Then the king faced about, and blessed all the assembly of Israel, while all the assembly of Israel stood. |
| 15 e disse: «Benedetto sia il Signore Iddio di Israele, che parlò per sua bocca a Davide mio padre e compì con la sua potenza [ciò che aveva dichiarato], dicendo: | 15 And he said, "Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who with his hand has fulfilled what he promised with his mouth to David my father, saying, |
| 16 - Dal giorno in cui trassi dall'Egitto il mio popolo di Israele non ho scelto città fra tutte le tribù d'Israele per edificarvi una casa dove il mio nome dimorasse; ma scelsi Davide perchè fosse capo del mio popolo di Israele. - | 16 'Since the day that I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city in all the tribes of Israel in which to build a house, that my name might be there; but I chose David to be over my people Israel.' |
| 17 Volle Davide mio padre edificare una casa al nome del Signore Dio d'Israele, | 17 Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of the LORD, the God of Israel. |
| 18 ma il Signore disse a Davide mio padre: - Quando tu hai pensato in cuor tuo di edificare una casa al mio nome hai fatto bene a formare questo disegno nella tua mente; | 18 But the LORD said to David my father, 'Whereas it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well that it was in your heart; |
| 19 tuttavia non tu mi edificherai questa casa, ma il tuo figliuolo, che uscirà dalle tue viscere; egli edificherà la casa al mio nome. - | 19 nevertheless you shall not build the house, but your son who shall be born to you shall build the house for my name.' |
| 20 E il Signore confermò la parola che aveva proferito; io fui posto in luogo del mio padre Davide a sedere sopra il trono d'Israele, come ebbe a dire il Signore, ed ho edificato la casa al nome del Signore Dio d'Israele; | 20 Now the LORD has fulfilled his promise which he made; for I have risen in the place of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and I have built the house for the name of the LORD, the God of Israel. |
| 21 e vi ho disposto un luogo per l'arca, dove è l'alleanza del Signore che egli fece coi padri nostri, quando uscirono dalla terra d'Egitto». | 21 And there I have provided a place for the ark, in which is the covenant of the LORD which he made with our fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt." |
| 22 Poi collocatosi dinanzi all'altare del Signore al cospetto di tutta l'assemblea d'Israele, Salomone stese le sue mani verso il cielo, | 22 Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven; |
| 23 e disse: «Signore, Dio d'Israele, non v'ha Dio simile a te, lassù in cielo e quaggiù in terra! Tu mantieni il patto e la misericordia verso i tuoi servi, che camminano alla tua presenza con tutto il loro cuore. | 23 and said, "O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven above or on earth beneath, keeping covenant and showing steadfast love to thy servants who walk before thee with all their heart; |
| 24 Tu hai mantenuto la parola data al servo tuo Davide mio padre; tu l'hai detta con la tua bocca e l'hai compiuta con le mani, come lo prova questo giorno. | 24 who hast kept with thy servant David my father what thou didst declare to him; yea, thou didst speak with thy mouth, and with thy hand hast fulfilled it this day. |
| 25 Ora adunque, Signore Dio d'Israele, mantieni quanto hai promesso al servo tuo Davide, padre mio, dicendo: - Non mancherà giammai innanzi a me un uomo di tua stirpe, che segga sul trono d'Israele, a patto però che i tuoi figliuoli custodiscano la loro via e camminino dinanzi a me, come tu hai camminato al mio cospetto. - | 25 Now therefore, O LORD, God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father what thou hast promised him, saying, 'There shall never fail you a man before me to sit upon the throne of Israel, if only your sons take heed to their way, to walk before me as you have walked before me.' |
| 26 Ed ora, Signore Dio d'Israele, si compiano le parole da te rivolte al tuo servo Davide, mio padre. | 26 Now therefore, O God of Israel, let thy word be confirmed, which thou hast spoken to thy servant David my father. |
| 27 Può mai credersi che veramente abiti Dio sulla terra? Se il cielo e i cieli dei cieli non ti possono contenere, quanto meno questa casa che io ho edificato? | 27 "But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have built! |
| 28 Tuttavia, o Signore, abbi riguardo alla preghiera del tuo servo e alle orazioni di lui, o Signore Dio mio. Ascolta l'inno e la preghiera che il tuo servo fa oggi dinanzi a te: | 28 Yet have regard to the prayer of thy servant and to his supplication, O LORD my God, hearkening to the cry and to the prayer which thy servant prays before thee this day; |
| 29 - Siano i tuoi occhi rivolti a questa casa, notte e giorno, a questa casa della quale dicesti: " Qui sarà il mio nome! ". Esaudisci la preghiera che ti rivolge in questo luogo il servo tuo! | 29 that thy eyes may be open night and day toward this house, the place of which thou hast said, 'My name shall be there,' that thou mayest hearken to the prayer which thy servant offers toward this place. |
| 30 Esaudisci la supplica del servo tuo e del popolo tuo Israele, qualunque sia la cosa che chiederanno a te in questo luogo. Tu la esaudirai dal luogo della tua dimora nel cielo ed esaudendola sarai ad essi propizio. | 30 And hearken thou to the supplication of thy servant and of thy people Israel, when they pray toward this place; yea, hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place; and when thou hearest, forgive. |
| 31 Se alcuno avrà commesso un delitto contro il suo prossimo e avrà fatto qualche giuramento che lo tenga legato e verrà per il giuramento al tuo altare nella tua casa, | 31 "If a man sins against his neighbor and is made to take an oath, and comes and swears his oath before thine altar in this house, |
| 32 tu lo esaudirai in cielo, agirai e giudicherai i tuoi servi, condannando l'empio col far ricadere la sua empietà sul suo capo, e giustificando il giusto col rendere a lui secondo la tua giustizia. | 32 then hear thou in heaven, and act, and judge thy servants, condemning the guilty by bringing his conduct upon his own head, and vindicating the righteous by rewarding him according to his righteousness. |
| 33 Se fuggirà il popol tuo Israele davanti ai suoi nemici, per avere peccato contro di te, e facendo penitenza e dando gloria al tuo nome verrà a porgerti preghiere e suppliche in questa casa, | 33 "When thy people Israel are defeated before the enemy because they have sinned against thee, if they turn again to thee, and acknowledge thy name, and pray and make supplication to thee in this house; |
| 34 esaudiscili in cielo e perdona il peccato del popolo tuo Israele e riconducilo alla terra da te concessa ai loro padri. | 34 then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again to the land which thou gavest to their fathers. |
| 35 Se il cielo sarà chiuso e non lascerà cadere pioggia a causa dei loro peccati, e pregando in questo luogo faranno penitenza in onor del tuo nome e si ritrarranno dai loro peccati in seguito alla loro afflizione, | 35 "When heaven is shut up and there is no rain because they have sinned against thee, if they pray toward this place, and acknowledge thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou dost afflict them, |
| 36 esaudiscili in cielo e rimetti i peccati dei tuoi servi e del popolo tuo Israele e mostra ad essi la buona via per cui debbono camminare e dà pioggia sulla terra, che tu hai dato in possesso al popolo tuo. | 36 then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, thy people Israel, when thou dost teach them the good way in which they should walk; and grant rain upon thy land, which thou hast given to thy people as an inheritance. |
| 37 Se la carestia, la peste, le epidemie, la ruggine, le locuste, il carbone desoleranno la terra; se il nemico affliggerà il tuo popolo assediando le sue città, se vi saran flagelli o infermità di qualsiasi sorta, | 37 "If there is famine in the land, if there is pestilence or blight or mildew or locust or caterpillar; if their enemy besieges them in any of their cities; whatever plague, whatever sickness there is; |
| 38 se qualcuno del tuo popolo d'Israele ti rivolgerà preghiere e suppliche e riconoscendo la piaga del suo cuore stenderà le mani verso questa casa, | 38 whatever prayer, whatever supplication is made by any man or by all thy people Israel, each knowing the affliction of his own heart and stretching out his hands toward this house; |
| 39 tu esaudirai in cielo, nel luogo della tua dimora e perdonerai e farai che a ciascuno sia dato secondo tutte le sue opere e secondo ciò che è nel suo cuore (poichè tu solo conosci il cuore di tutti i figli degli uomini), | 39 then hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and act, and render to each whose heart thou knowest, according to all his ways (for thou, thou only, knowest the hearts of all the children of men); |
| 40 affinchè essi ti temano tutti i giorni che vivranno sulla faccia della terra che tu hai dato ai nostri padri. | 40 that they may fear thee all the days that they live in the land which thou gavest to our fathers. |
| 41 Ma anche lo straniero che non appartiene al tuo popolo d'Israele, quando verrà da terra lontana a causa del tuo nome (giacchè il tuo nome grande e la tua mano potente e il tuo braccio | 41 "Likewise when a foreigner, who is not of thy people Israel, comes from a far country for thy name's sake |
| 42 disteso saranno noti ovunque), quando dunque verrà per pregare in questo luogo, | 42 (for they shall hear of thy great name, and thy mighty hand, and of thy outstretched arm), when he comes and prays toward this house, |
| 43 tu lo esaudirai in cielo, dal luogo della tua dimora e farai tutto ciò per cui lo straniero t'invocherà; affinchè tutti i popoli della terra imparino a temere il tuo nome, come il tuo popolo d'Israele e riconoscano che il tuo nome è invocato sopra questa casa che io ho edificato. | 43 hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to thee; in order that all the peoples of the earth may know thy name and fear thee, as do thy people Israel, and that they may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name. |
| 44 Se il tuo popolo sarà uscito a combattere contro i suoi nemici, seguendo la via per la quale lo avrai mandato e ti pregherà rivolto verso la città che tu hai eletto e verso il tempio, che ho edificato al tuo nome, | 44 "If thy people go out to battle against their enemy, by whatever way thou shalt send them, and they pray to the LORD toward the city which thou hast chosen and the house which I have built for thy name, |
| 45 tu esaudirai in cielo le loro preghiere e le loro suppliche e renderai ad essi giustizia. | 45 then hear thou in heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause. |
| 46 Che se peccheranno contro di te (poichè non v'ha uomo che non pecchi), e tu sdegnato li avrai abbandonati in balìa dei loro nemici e saranno condotti prigionieri in terra nemica lontana o vicina, | 46 "If they sin against thee--for there is no man who does not sin--and thou art angry with them, and dost give them to an enemy, so that they are carried away captive to the land of the enemy, far off or near; |
| 47 se nel luogo della schiavitù faranno penitenza di tutto cuore, e convertiti ti pregheranno nel paese, ove saranno condotti schiavi, dicendo: "Abbiamo peccato, abbiamo operato iniquamente, abbiamo agito da malvagi ", | 47 yet if they lay it to heart in the land to which they have been carried captive, and repent, and make supplication to thee in the land of their captors, saying, 'We have sinned, and have acted perversely and wickedly'; |
| 48 e si saranno rivolti a te con tutto il loro cuore, con tutta l'anima loro nella terra dei loro nemici, nella quale saranno stati condotti prigionieri, e ti pregheranno rivolgendosi verso il loro paese, che tu hai dato ai loro padri e verso la città che tu hai scelto ed il tempio che ho edificato al tuo nome; | 48 if they repent with all their mind and with all their heart in the land of their enemies, who carried them captive, and pray to thee toward their land, which thou gavest to their fathers, the city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name; |
| 49 tu esaudirai in cielo, nella sede del tuo trono, le loro preghiere e le loro suppliche e renderai loro giustizia, | 49 then hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause |
| 50 e perdonerai al tuo popolo che ha peccato contro di te e a tutte le loro iniquità per cui prevaricarono contro di te e userai misericordia innanzi a quelli che li tengono prigionieri, affinchè essi abbiano pietà di loro, | 50 and forgive thy people who have sinned against thee, and all their transgressions which they have committed against thee; and grant them compassion in the sight of those who carried them captive, that they may have compassion on them |
| 51 poichè essi sono tuo popolo e tua eredità e tu li hai tratti dall'Egitto, da quella fornace di ferro. | 51 (for they are thy people, and thy heritage, which thou didst bring out of Egypt, from the midst of the iron furnace). |
| 52 Siano i tuoi occhi aperti alla preghiera del tuo servo e del popolo tuo Israele ed esaudiscili in tutte le cose per le quali ti pregheranno, | 52 Let thy eyes be open to the supplication of thy servant, and to the supplication of thy people Israel, giving ear to them whenever they call to thee. |
| 53 poichè tu li hai separati da tutti i popoli della terra per farne la tua eredità come dichiarasti per mezzo di Mosè tuo servo, quando hai tratto i nostri padri dall'Egitto, o Signore Iddio -». | 53 For thou didst separate them from among all the peoples of the earth, to be thy heritage, as thou didst declare through Moses, thy servant, when thou didst bring our fathers out of Egypt, O Lord GOD." |
| 54 Allorchè Salomone ebbe terminato di rivolgere al Signore tutta questa preghiera e questa supplica, si tolse dal cospetto dell'altare del Signore, dinanzi al quale stavasi inginocchiato a terra, con ambedue i ginocchi e colle mani stese verso il cielo. | 54 Now as Solomon finished offering all this prayer and supplication to the LORD, he arose from before the altar of the LORD, where he had knelt with hands outstretched toward heaven; |
| 55 Si alzò dunque in piedi e benedisse tutta l'assemblea d'Israele ad alta voce, dicendo: | 55 and he stood, and blessed all the assembly of Israel with a loud voice, saying, |
| 56 «Sia benedetto il Signore che accordò la pace al suo popolo Israele secondo tutte le promesse da lui fatte. Neppur una delle buone promesse da lui fatte per mezzo di Mosè suo servo è caduta per terra. | 56 "Blessed be the LORD who has given rest to his people Israel, according to all that he promised; not one word has failed of all his good promise, which he uttered by Moses his servant. |
| 57 Sia il Signore Dio nostro con noi come fu coi padri nostri; non ci abbandoni mai, nè ci rigetti; | 57 The LORD our God be with us, as he was with our fathers; may he not leave us or forsake us; |
| 58 ma inclini i nostri cuori verso di lui, perchè camminiamo in tutte le sue vie e custodiamo tutti i suoi comandamenti, le sue leggi, i suoi ordini, ch'egli prescrisse ai nostri padri. | 58 that he may incline our hearts to him, to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, his statutes, and his ordinances, which he commanded our fathers. |
| 59 Siano queste mie parole, colle quali ho pregato innanzi al Signore, presenti al Signore Dio nostro giorno e notte, affinchè renda giustizia al suo servo e al suo popolo Israele in ogni tempo, | 59 Let these words of mine, wherewith I have made supplication before the LORD, be near to the LORD our God day and night, and may he maintain the cause of his servant, and the cause of his people Israel, as each day requires; |
| 60 cosicchè sappiano tutti i popoli della terra che il Signore è Dio e non vi è altri all'infuori di lui. | 60 that all the peoples of the earth may know that the LORD is God; there is no other. |
| 61 Sia ancora il cuor nostro interamente del Signore Dio nostro per poter camminare secondo le sue leggi e custodire i suoi comandamenti come facciamo oggi». | 61 Let your heart therefore be wholly true to the LORD our God, walking in his statutes and keeping his commandments, as at this day." |
| 62 Adunque il re e tutto Israele con lui immolavano vittime dinanzi al Signore. | 62 Then the king, and all Israel with him, offered sacrifice before the LORD. |
| 63 Salomone immolò ventiduemila buoi e centoventimila pecore come ostie pacifiche, che offrì al Signore; e il re e i figli d'Israele dedicarono così il tempio al Signore. | 63 Solomon offered as peace offerings to the LORD twenty-two thousand oxen and a hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the people of Israel dedicated the house of the LORD. |
| 64 In quel giorno il re consacrò la parte centrale dell'atrio che era davanti alla casa del Signore, avendo qui offerto l'olocausto e il sacrificio e il grasso delle vittime pacifiche, poichè l'altare di bronzo che stava dinanzi al Signore era troppo piccolo e non poteva contenere l'olocausto, il sacrificio e il grasso delle vittime pacifiche. | 64 The same day the king consecrated the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD; for there he offered the burnt offering and the cereal offering and the fat pieces of the peace offerings, because the bronze altar that was before the LORD was too small to receive the burnt offering and the cereal offering and the fat pieces of the peace offerings. |
| 65 Salomone celebrò in quel tempo la festa solenne e con lui tutto Israele, venuto in gran moltitudine dalla entrata di Emat fino al fiume di Egitto, dinanzi al Signore Dio nostro, e ciò per lo spazio di sette giorni e sette altri giorni, vale a dire quattordici giorni; | 65 So Solomon held the feast at that time, and all Israel with him, a great assembly, from the entrance of Hamath to the Brook of Egypt, before the LORD our God, seven days. |
| 66 e nel giorno ottavo Salomone congedò il popolo che benedicendo il re fece ritorno alle sue tende, lieto e contento in cuor suo per tutto il bene che il Signore aveva fatto a Davide, suo servo, e ad Israele, suo popolo. | 66 On the eighth day he sent the people away; and they blessed the king, and went to their homes joyful and glad of heart for all the goodness that the LORD had shown to David his servant and to Israel his people. |
