Prima lettera ai Tessalonicesi 5

1 Riguardo poi ai tempi e ai momenti, fratelli, non avete bisogno che ve ne scriva;	1 About times and dates, brothers, there is no need to write to you
2 infatti sapete bene che il giorno del Signore verrà come un ladro di notte.	2 for you are wel aware in any case that the Day of the Lord is going to come like a thief in the night.
3 E quando la gente dirà: «C’è pace e sicurezza!», allora d’improvviso la rovina li colpirà, come le doglie una donna incinta; e non potranno sfuggire.	3 It is when people are saying, 'How quiet and peaceful it is' that sudden destruction fal s on them, assuddenly as labour pains come on a pregnant woman; and there is no escape.
4 Ma voi, fratelli, non siete nelle tenebre, cosicché quel giorno possa sorprendervi come un ladro.	4 But you, brothers, do not live in the dark, that the Day should take you unawares like a thief.
5 Infatti siete tutti figli della luce e figli del giorno; noi non apparteniamo alla notte, né alle tenebre.	5 No, you are al children of light and children of the day: we do not belong to the night or to darkness,
6 Non dormiamo dunque come gli altri, ma vigiliamo e siamo sobri.	6 so we should not go on sleeping, as everyone else does, but stay wide awake and sober.
7 Quelli che dormono, infatti, dormono di notte; e quelli che si ubriacano, di notte si ubriacano.	7 Night is the time for sleepers to sleep and night the time for drunkards to be drunk,
8 Noi invece, che apparteniamo al giorno, siamo sobri, vestiti con la corazza della fede e della carità, e avendo come elmo la speranza della salvezza.	8 but we belong to the day and we should be sober; let us put on faith and love for a breastplate, and thehope of salvation for a helmet.
9 Dio infatti non ci ha destinati alla sua ira, ma ad ottenere la salvezza per mezzo del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo.	9 God destined us not for his retribution, but to win salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 Egli è morto per noi perché, sia che vegliamo sia che dormiamo, viviamo insieme con lui.	10 who died for us so that, awake or asleep, we should stil live united to him.
11 Perciò confortatevi a vicenda e siate di aiuto gli uni agli altri, come già fate.	11 So give encouragement to each other, and keep strengthening one another, as you do already.
12 Vi preghiamo, fratelli, di avere riguardo per quelli che faticano tra voi, che vi fanno da guida nel Signore e vi ammoniscono;	12 We appeal to you, my brothers, to be considerate to those who work so hard among you as yourleaders in the Lord and those who admonish you.
13 trattateli con molto rispetto e amore, a motivo del loro lavoro. Vivete in pace tra voi.	13 Have the greatest respect and affection for them because of their work. Be at peace amongyourselves.
14 Vi esortiamo, fratelli: ammonite chi è indisciplinato, fate coraggio a chi è scoraggiato, sostenete chi è debole, siate magnanimi con tutti.	14 We urge you, brothers, to admonish those who are undisciplined, encourage the apprehensive,support the weak and be patient with everyone.
15 Badate che nessuno renda male per male ad alcuno, ma cercate sempre il bene tra voi e con tutti.	15 Make sure that people do not try to repay evil for evil; always aim at what is best for each other and foreveryone.
16 Siate sempre lieti,	16 Always be joyful;
17 pregate ininterrottamente,	17 pray constantly;
18 in ogni cosa rendete grazie: questa infatti è volontà di Dio in Cristo Gesù verso di voi.	18 and for al things give thanks; this is the wil of God for you in Christ Jesus.
19 Non spegnete lo Spirito,	19 Do not stifle the Spirit
20 non disprezzate le profezie.	20 or despise the gift of prophecy with contempt;
21 Vagliate ogni cosa e tenete ciò che è buono.	21 test everything and hold on to what is good
22 Astenetevi da ogni specie di male.	22 and shun every form of evil.
23 Il Dio della pace vi santifichi interamente, e tutta la vostra persona, spirito, anima e corpo, si conservi irreprensibile per la venuta del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo.	23 May the God of peace make you perfect and holy; and may your spirit, life and body be keptblameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Degno di fede è colui che vi chiama: egli farà tutto questo!	24 He who has cal ed you is trustworthy and wil carry it out.
25 Fratelli, pregate anche per noi.	25 Pray for us, my brothers.
26 Salutate tutti i fratelli con il bacio santo.	26 Greet al the brothers with a holy kiss.
27 Vi scongiuro, per il Signore, che questa lettera sia letta a tutti i fratelli.	27 My orders, in the Lord's name, are that this letter is to be read to al the brothers.
