1 Stavano ancora parlando al popolo, quando sopraggiunsero i sacerdoti, il comandante delle guardie del tempio e i sadducei,	1 But while they were speaking to the people, the priests and the magistrate of the temple and the Sadducees overwhelmed them,
2 irritati per il fatto che essi insegnavano al popolo e annunciavano in Gesù la risurrezione dai morti.	2 being grieved that they were teaching the people and announcing in Jesus the resurrection from the dead.
3 Li arrestarono e li misero in prigione fino al giorno dopo, dato che ormai era sera.	3 And they laid hands on them, and they placed them under guard until the next day. For it was now evening.
4 Molti però di quelli che avevano ascoltato la Parola credettero e il numero degli uomini raggiunse circa i cinquemila.	4 But many of those who had heard the word believed. And the number of men became five thousand.
5 Il giorno dopo si riunirono in Gerusalemme i loro capi, gli anziani e gli scribi,	5 And it happened on the next day that their leaders and elders and scribes gathered together in Jerusalem,
6 il sommo sacerdote Anna, Caifa, Giovanni, Alessandro e quanti appartenevano a famiglie di sommi sacerdoti.	6 including Annas, the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John and Alexander, and as many as were of the priestly family.
7 Li fecero comparire davanti a loro e si misero a interrogarli: «Con quale potere o in quale nome voi avete fatto questo?».	7 And stationing them in the middle, they questioned them: “By what power, or in whose name, have you done this?”
8 Allora Pietro, colmato di Spirito Santo, disse loro: «Capi del popolo e anziani,	8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: “Leaders of the people and elders, listen.
9 visto che oggi veniamo interrogati sul beneficio recato a un uomo infermo, e cioè per mezzo di chi egli sia stato salvato,	9 If we today are judged by a good deed done to an infirm man, by which he has been made whole,
10 sia noto a tutti voi e a tutto il popolo d’Israele: nel nome di Gesù Cristo il Nazareno, che voi avete crocifisso e che Dio ha risuscitato dai morti, costui vi sta innanzi risanato.	10 let it be known to all of you and to all of the people of Israel, that in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God has raised from the dead, by him, this man stands before you, healthy.
11 Questo Gesù è la pietra, che è stata scartata da voi, costruttori, e che è diventata la pietra d’angolo.	11 He is the stone, which was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the head of the corner.
12 In nessun altro c’è salvezza; non vi è infatti, sotto il cielo, altro nome dato agli uomini, nel quale è stabilito che noi siamo salvati».	12 And there is no salvation in any other. For there is no other name under heaven given to men, by which it is necessary for us to be saved.”
13 Vedendo la franchezza di Pietro e di Giovanni e rendendosi conto che erano persone semplici e senza istruzione, rimanevano stupiti e li riconoscevano come quelli che erano stati con Gesù.	13 Then, seeing the constancy of Peter and John, having verified that they were men without letters or learning, they wondered. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.
14 Vedendo poi in piedi, vicino a loro, l’uomo che era stato guarito, non sapevano che cosa replicare.	14 Also, seeing the man who had been cured standing with them, they were unable to say anything to contradict them.
15 Li fecero uscire dal sinedrio e si misero a consultarsi fra loro	15 But they ordered them to withdraw outside, away from the council, and they conferred among themselves,
16 dicendo: «Che cosa dobbiamo fare a questi uomini? Un segno evidente è avvenuto per opera loro; esso è diventato talmente noto a tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme che non possiamo negarlo.	16 saying: “What shall we do to these men? For certainly a public sign has been done through them, before all the inhabitants of Jerusalem. It is manifest, and we cannot deny it.
17 Ma perché non si divulghi maggiormente tra il popolo, proibiamo loro con minacce di parlare ancora ad alcuno in quel nome».	17 But lest it spread further among the people, let us threaten them not to speak anymore in this name to any man.”
18 Li richiamarono e ordinarono loro di non parlare in alcun modo né di insegnare nel nome di Gesù.	18 And calling them in, they warned them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.
19 Ma Pietro e Giovanni replicarono: «Se sia giusto dinanzi a Dio obbedire a voi invece che a Dio, giudicatelo voi.	19 Yet truly, Peter and John said in response to them: “Judge whether it is just in the sight of God to listen to you, rather than to God.
20 Noi non possiamo tacere quello che abbiamo visto e ascoltato».	20 For we are unable to refrain from speaking the things that we have seen and heard.”
21 Quelli allora, dopo averli ulteriormente minacciati, non trovando in che modo poterli punire, li lasciarono andare a causa del popolo, perché tutti glorificavano Dio per l’accaduto.	21 But they, threatening them, sent them away, having not found a way that they might punish them because of the people. For all were glorifying the things that had been done in these events.
22 L’uomo infatti nel quale era avvenuto questo miracolo della guarigione aveva più di quarant’anni.	22 For the man in whom this sign of a cure had been accomplished was more than forty years old.
23 Rimessi in libertà, Pietro e Giovanni andarono dai loro fratelli e riferirono quanto avevano detto loro i capi dei sacerdoti e gli anziani.	23 Then, having been released, they went to their own, and they reported in full what the leaders of the priests and the elders had said to them.
24 Quando udirono questo, tutti insieme innalzarono la loro voce a Dio dicendo: «Signore, tu che hai creato il cielo, la terra, il mare e tutte le cose che in essi si trovano,	24 And when they had heard it, with one accord, they lifted up their voice to God, and they said: “Lord, you are the One who made heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them,
25 tu che, per mezzo dello Spirito Santo, dicesti per bocca del nostro padre, il tuo servo Davide: Perché le nazioni si agitarono e i popoli tramarono cose vane?	25 who, by the Holy Spirit, through the mouth of our father David, your servant, said: ‘Why have the Gentiles been seething, and why have the people been pondering nonsense?
26 Si sollevarono i re della terra e i prìncipi si allearono insieme contro il Signore e contro il suo Cristo;	26 The kings of the earth have stood up, and the leaders have joined together as one, against the Lord and against his Christ.’
27 davvero in questa città Erode e Ponzio Pilato, con le nazioni e i popoli d’Israele, si sono alleati contro il tuo santo servo Gesù, che tu hai consacrato,	27 For truly Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, joined together in this city against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed
28 per compiere ciò che la tua mano e la tua volontà avevano deciso che avvenisse.	28 to do what your hand and your counsel had decreed would be done.
29 E ora, Signore, volgi lo sguardo alle loro minacce e concedi ai tuoi servi di proclamare con tutta franchezza la tua parola,	29 And now, O Lord, look upon their threats, and grant to your servants that they may speak your word with all confidence,
30 stendendo la tua mano affinché si compiano guarigioni, segni e prodigi nel nome del tuo santo servo Gesù».	30 by extending your hand in cures and signs and miracles, to be done through the name of your holy Son, Jesus.”
31 Quand’ebbero terminato la preghiera, il luogo in cui erano radunati tremò e tutti furono colmati di Spirito Santo e proclamavano la parola di Dio con franchezza.	31 And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered was moved. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. And they were speaking the Word of God with confidence.
32 La moltitudine di coloro che erano diventati credenti aveva un cuore solo e un’anima sola e nessuno considerava sua proprietà quello che gli apparteneva, ma fra loro tutto era comune.	32 Then the multitude of believers were of one heart and one soul. Neither did anyone say that any of the things that he possessed were his own, but all things were common to them.
33 Con grande forza gli apostoli davano testimonianza della risurrezione del Signore Gesù e tutti godevano di grande favore.	33 And with great power, the Apostles were rendering testimony to the Resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord. And great grace was in them all.
34 Nessuno infatti tra loro era bisognoso, perché quanti possedevano campi o case li vendevano, portavano il ricavato di ciò che era stato venduto	34 And neither was anyone among them in need. For as many as were owners of fields or houses, selling these, were bringing the proceeds of the things that they were selling,
35 e lo deponevano ai piedi degli apostoli; poi veniva distribuito a ciascuno secondo il suo bisogno.	35 and were placing it before the feet of the Apostles. Then it was divided to each one, just as he had need.
36 Così Giuseppe, soprannominato dagli apostoli Bàrnaba, che significa «figlio dell’esortazione», un levita originario di Cipro,	36 Now Joseph, who the Apostles surnamed Barnabas (which is translated as ‘son of consolation’), who was a Levite of Cyprian descent,
37 padrone di un campo, lo vendette e ne consegnò il ricavato deponendolo ai piedi degli apostoli.	37 since he had land, he sold it, and he brought the proceeds and placed these at the feet of the Apostles.
