1 Mi fu rivolta questa parola del Signore:	1 The word of Yahweh was addressed to me as follows,
2 «Figlio dell’uomo, vi erano due donne, figlie della stessa madre,	2 'Son of man, there were once two women, daughters of the same mother.
3 che si erano prostituite in Egitto fin dalla loro giovinezza, dove venne premuto il loro petto e oppresso il loro seno verginale.	3 They played the whore in Egypt; they played the whore when they were stil girls. There their nippleswere handled, there their virgin breasts were first fondled.
4 Esse si chiamano Oolà la maggiore e Oolibà la più piccola, sua sorella. L’una e l’altra divennero mie e partorirono figli e figlie. Oolà è Samaria e Oolibà è Gerusalemme.	4 Their names were: Oholah the elder, Oholibah her sister. They belonged to me and bore sons anddaughters. As regards their names, Samaria is Oholah, Jerusalem Oholibah.
5 Oolà, mentre era mia, si dimostrò infedele: arse d’amore per i suoi spasimanti, gli Assiri suoi vicini,	5 Now Oholah played the whore, although she belonged to me; she lusted after her lovers, herneighbours the Assyrians,
6 vestiti di porpora, prìncipi e governatori, tutti giovani attraenti, cavalieri montati su cavalli.	6 dressed in purple, governors and magistrates, all of them young and desirable, and skilful horsemen.
7 Concesse i suoi favori a loro, al fiore degli Assiri, e si contaminò con gli idoli di coloro dei quali si era innamorata.	7 She played the whore with al of them, the pick of Assyria, and defiled herself with al the foul idols ofal those with whom she was in love,
8 Non rinunciò alle sue relazioni amorose con gli Egiziani, i quali avevano abusato di lei nella sua giovinezza, avevano oppresso il suo seno verginale, sfogando su di lei la loro libidine.	8 nor did she give up the whoring begun in Egypt, where men had slept with her from her girlhood,fondling her virgin breasts, debauching her over and over again.
9 Per questo l’ho data in mano ai suoi amanti, in mano agli Assiri, dei quali si era innamorata.	9 'That is why I have handed her over to her lovers, to the Assyrians with whom she was in love.
10 Essi scoprirono la sua nudità, presero i suoi figli e le sue figlie e la uccisero di spada. Divenne così come un monito fra le donne, per la condanna esemplare che essi avevano eseguito su di lei.	10 They stripped her naked, seized her sons and daughters and put her to the sword. She becamenotorious among women for the justice done on her.
11 Sua sorella Oolibà la vide e si corruppe più di lei nei suoi amoreggiamenti; con le sue infedeltà superò la sorella.	11 'Her sister Oholibah saw al this, but she was even more depraved, and her whorings were worsethan her sister's.
12 Spasimò per gli Assiri suoi vicini, prìncipi e governatori, vestiti di porpora, cavalieri montati su cavalli, tutti giovani attraenti.	12 She fel in love with her neighbours the Assyrians, governors and magistrates, dressed in sumptuousclothes, skilful horsemen, al young and desirable.
13 Io vidi che si era contaminata e che tutt’e due seguivano la stessa via.	13 Then I saw that she had defiled herself, that both sisters were equally bad.
14 Ma ella moltiplicò le prostituzioni. Vide uomini effigiati su una parete, figure di Caldei, disegnati con il minio,	14 She began whoring worse than ever; no sooner had she seen wal -carvings of men, pictures ofChaldaeans coloured vermilion,
15 con cinture ai fianchi, ampi turbanti in capo, dall’aspetto di grandi capi, rappresentanti i figli di Babilonia, originari di Caldea:	15 men with sashes round their waists and elaborate turbans on their heads, all so lordly of bearing,depicting the Babylonians, natives of Chaldaea,
16 ella se ne innamorò non appena li vide e inviò loro messaggeri in Caldea.	16 than she fell in love with them at first sight and sent messengers to them in Chaldaea.
17 I figli di Babilonia andarono da lei al letto degli amori e la contaminarono con le loro fornicazioni ed ella si contaminò con loro finché ne fu nauseata.	17 The Babylonians came to her, shared her love-bed and defiled her with their whoring. Once defiledby them, she withdrew her affection from them.
18 Poiché aveva messo in pubblico le sue tresche e scoperto la sua nudità, anch’io mi allontanai da lei come mi ero allontanato dalla sorella.	18 Thus she flaunted her whoring, exposing her body, until I withdrew my affection from her as I hadwithdrawn it from her sister.
19 Ma ella continuò a moltiplicare prostituzioni, ricordando il tempo della sua gioventù, quando si prostituiva in Egitto.	19 But she began whoring worse than ever, remembering her girlhood, when she had played the whorein Egypt,
20 Arse di libidine per quegli amanti lussuriosi come asini, libidinosi come stalloni,	20 when she had been in love with their profligates, big-membered as donkeys, ejaculating as violentlyas stal ions.
21 e così rinnovasti l’infamia della tua giovinezza, quando in Egitto veniva oppresso il tuo seno, premuto il tuo petto giovanile.	21 'You were hankering for the debauchery of your girlhood, when they used to handle your nipples inEgypt and fondle your young breasts.
22 Per questo, Oolibà, così dice il Signore Dio: Ecco, io suscito contro di te gli amanti di cui mi sono disgustato e condurrò contro di te da ogni parte	22 And so, Oholibah, Lord Yahweh says this, "I shal set al your lovers against you, from whom youhave withdrawn your affection, and bring them to assault you from al directions:
23 i figli di Babilonia e di tutti i Caldei, quelli di Pekod, di Soa e di Koa e con loro tutti gli Assiri, tutti giovani attraenti, prìncipi e governatori, tutti capitani e cavalieri famosi;	23 the Babylonians and al the Chaldaeans, the men of Pekod and Shoa and Koa, and al the Assyrianswith them, young and desirable, al governors and magistrates, al famous lords and skilful horsemen.
24 verranno contro di te dal settentrione con cocchi e carri e con una moltitudine di popolo e si schiereranno contro di te da ogni parte con scudi grandi e piccoli e con elmi. A loro ho rimesso il giudizio e ti giudicheranno secondo le loro leggi.	24 From the north, they wil advance on you with chariots and wagons and an international army andbeset you with shield, buckler and helmet on al sides. I shal charge them to pass sentence on you and they wil pass sentence on you as they think fit.
25 Scatenerò la mia gelosia contro di te e ti tratteranno con furore: ti taglieranno il naso e gli orecchi e i superstiti cadranno di spada; deporteranno i tuoi figli e le tue figlie e ciò che rimarrà di te sarà preda del fuoco.	25 I shal direct my jealousy against you; they wil treat you with fury; they will cut off your nose and ears,and what is left of your family wil fal by the sword; they wil seize your sons and daughters, and what is left wilbe burnt.
26 Ti spoglieranno delle tue vesti e s’impadroniranno dei tuoi gioielli.	26 They will strip off your garments and rob you of your jewels.
27 Metterò fine alle tue scelleratezze e alle tue prostituzioni commesse in Egitto: non alzerai più gli occhi verso di loro, non ricorderai più l’Egitto.	27 I shal put an end to your debauchery and to the whorings you began in Egypt; you wil not look to theEgyptians any more, you wil never think of them again.
28 Perché così dice il Signore Dio: Ecco, io ti consegno in mano a coloro che tu odii, in mano a coloro di cui sei nauseata.	28 For the Lord Yahweh says this: Now, I shal hand you over to those you hate, to those for whom youno longer feel affection.
29 Ti tratteranno con odio e si impadroniranno di tutti i tuoi beni, lasciandoti nuda e scoperta; saranno svelate la turpitudine delle tue scelleratezze, la tua libidine e le tue prostituzioni.	29 They will treat you with hatred, they wil rob you of the entire fruit of your labours and leave you starknaked. And thus your shameful whorings will be exposed, your debauchery and your whorings.
30 Così sarai trattata perché tu mi hai tradito con le nazioni, perché ti sei contaminata con i loro idoli.	30 This wil happen to you because you have played the whore with the nations and have defiledyourself with their foul idols.
31 Hai seguito la via di tua sorella, la sua coppa porrò nelle tue mani.	31 Since you have copied your sister's behaviour, I shal put her cup in your hand."
32 Così dice il Signore Dio: Berrai la coppa di tua sorella, profonda e larga, sarai oggetto di derisione e di scherno; la coppa sarà di grande misura.	32 The Lord Yahweh says this: You wil drink your sister's cup, a cup both deep and wide, leading tolaughter and mockery, so ample the draught it holds.
33 Tu sarai colma d’ubriachezza e d’affanno. Coppa di desolazione e di sterminio era la coppa di tua sorella Samaria.	33 You wil be fil ed with drunkenness and sorrow. Cup of affliction and devastation, the cup of yoursister Samaria,
34 Anche tu la berrai, la vuoterai, ne succhierai i cocci, ti lacererai il seno, poiché io ho parlato». Oracolo del Signore Dio.	34 you will drink it, you wil drain it; then you will break it in pieces and lacerate your own breasts. For Ihave spoken -- declared the Lord Yahweh.
35 Perciò così dice il Signore Dio: «Tu mi hai dimenticato e mi hai voltato le spalle: sconterai la tua disonestà e le tue prostituzioni!».	35 "And so, the Lord Yahweh says this: Since you have forgotten me and have turned your back on me,you too will have to bear the weight of your debauchery and whorings." '
36 Il Signore mi disse: «Figlio dell’uomo, non giudicherai tu Oolà e Oolibà? Non mostrerai loro i loro abomini?	36 And Yahweh said to me, 'Son of man, are you ready to judge Oholah and Oholibah and charge themwith their loathsome practices?
37 Sono state adultere e le loro mani sono lorde di sangue, hanno commesso adulterio con i loro idoli; persino i figli che mi avevano partorito, li hanno fatti passare per il fuoco in loro pasto.	37 They have been adulteresses, their hands are dripping with blood, they have committed adultery withtheir foul idols. As for the children they had borne me, they have offered them as burnt sacrifices to feed them.
38 Ancora questo mi hanno fatto: in quello stesso giorno hanno contaminato il mio santuario e profanato i miei sabati;	38 And here is something else they have done to me: they have defiled my sanctuary today and haveprofaned my Sabbaths.
39 dopo avere immolato i loro figli ai loro idoli, sono venute in quel medesimo giorno al mio santuario per profanarlo: ecco quello che hanno fatto dentro la mia casa!	39 The same day as sacrificing their children to their idols, they have been to my sanctuary andprofaned it. Yes, this is what they have done in my own house.
40 Si rivolsero anche a uomini di paesi lontani, invitandoli per mezzo di messaggeri, ed essi giunsero. Per loro ti sei lavata, ti sei dipinta gli occhi, ti sei adornata dei tuoi vestiti preziosi,	40 'Worse stil , they summoned men from far away, invited by messenger, and they came. For them youbathed, you painted your eyes, put on your jewels
41 ti sei stesa su un magnifico divano davanti a una tavola imbandita, su cui hai posto il mio olio, i miei profumi.	41 and sat on a sumptuous bed, by which a table was laid out. On this you had put my incense and myoil.
42 Si udiva lo strepito di una moltitudine festante di uomini venuti dal deserto, i quali avevano messo braccialetti ai polsi e una splendida corona sul capo.	42 The noise of the carefree company resounded, made by the crowd of men brought in from the desert;they put bracelets on the women's arms and magnificent crowns on their heads.
43 Io pensavo di costei, abituata agli adultèri: “Ora costoro si faranno complici delle sue prostituzioni”.	43 I thought, "That woman, worn out with adultery! Are they going to fornicate with her too?"
44 Infatti entrarono da lei, come si entra da una prostituta: così entrarono da Oolà e da Oolibà, donne di malaffare.	44 Yet they visit her like any common prostitute, just as they visited those profligate women Oholah andOholibah.
45 Ma uomini retti le giudicheranno come si giudicano le adultere e le assassine. Le loro mani sono lorde di sangue».	45 Al the same, there are upright men who wil judge them as adulteresses and murderesses arejudged, since they are adulteresses and their hands are dripping with blood."
46 Così dice infatti il Signore Dio: «Si farà venire contro di loro una folla ed esse saranno abbandonate alle malversazioni e al saccheggio.	46 'The Lord Yahweh says this, "Summon an assembly to deal with them, and hand them over to terrorand pil age;
47 La folla le lapiderà e le farà a pezzi con le spade; ne ucciderà i figli e le figlie e darà alle fiamme le case.	47 let the assembly stone them and dispatch them with their swords; let their sons and daughters beslaughtered and their houses set on fire.
48 Eliminerò così un’infamia dalla terra e tutte le donne impareranno a non commettere infamie simili.	48 This is how I shall purge the country of debauchery, so that al women will be taught the lesson neverto ape your debauchery again.
49 Faranno ricadere la vostra infamia su di voi e sconterete i vostri peccati di idolatria: saprete così che io sono il Signore Dio».	49 Your debauchery will recoil on yourselves, and you wil bear the weight of the sins committed withyour foul idols and you wil know that I am the Lord Yahweh." '
