BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Non vantarti del domani, perché non sai neppure che cosa genera l’oggi.	1 Do not congratulate yourself about tomorrow, since you do not know what today wil bring forth.
2 Ti lodi un estraneo e non la tua bocca, uno sconosciuto e non le tue labbra.	2 Let someone else sing your praises, but not your own mouth, a stranger, but not your own lips.
3 La pietra è greve, la sabbia è pesante, ma più d’entrambi la collera dello stolto.	3 Heavy is the stone, weighty is the sand; heavier than both -- a grudge borne by a fool.
4 L’ira è crudele, il furore è impetuoso, ma alla gelosia chi può resistere?	4 Cruel is wrath, overwhelming is anger; but jealousy, who can withstand that?
5 Meglio un rimprovero aperto che un amore nascosto.	5 Better open reproof than feigned love.
6 Leali sono le ferite di un amico, ingannevoli i baci di un nemico.	6 Trustworthy are blows from a friend, deceitful are kisses from a foe.
7 Lo stomaco sazio disprezza il miele, per lo stomaco affamato anche l’amaro è dolce.	7 The gorged throat revolts at honey, the hungry throat finds al bitterness sweet.
8 Come un uccello che vola lontano dal nido, così è l’uomo che va errando lontano da casa.	8 Like a bird that strays from its nest, so is anyone who strays away from home.
9 Profumo e incenso allietano il cuore e il consiglio dell’amico addolcisce l’animo.	9 Oil and perfume gladden the heart, and the sweetness of friendship rather than self-reliance.
10 Non abbandonare il tuo amico né quello di tuo padre, non entrare nella casa di tuo fratello nel giorno della tua disgrazia. Meglio un amico vicino che un fratello lontano.	10 Do not give up your friend or your father's friend; when trouble comes, do not go off to your brother'shouse, better a near neighbour than a distant brother.
11 Sii saggio, figlio mio, e allieterai il mio cuore; così avrò di che rispondere a colui che mi insulta.	11 Learn to be wise, my child, and gladden my heart, that I may have an answer for anyone who insultsme.
12 L’accorto vede il pericolo e si nasconde, gli inesperti vanno avanti e la pagano.	12 The discreet sees danger and takes shelter, simpletons go ahead and pay the penalty.
13 Prendigli il vestito perché si è fatto garante per un estraneo, e tienilo in pegno per uno sconosciuto.	13 Take the man's clothes! He has gone surety for a stranger. Take a pledge from him, for personsunknown.
14 Chi benedice il prossimo di buon mattino ad alta voce, sarà considerato come se lo maledicesse.	14 Whoever at dawn loudly blesses his neighbour -- it will be reckoned to him as a curse.
15 Lo stillicidio incessante in tempo di pioggia e una moglie litigiosa si rassomigliano:	15 The dripping of a gutter on a rainy day and a quarrelsome woman are alike;
16 chi vuole trattenerla, trattiene il vento e raccoglie l’olio con la mano destra.	16 whoever can restrain her, can restrain the wind, and take a firm hold on grease.
17 Il ferro si aguzza con il ferro e l’uomo aguzza l’ingegno del suo compagno.	17 Iron is sharpened by iron, one person is sharpened by contact with another.
18 Chi custodisce un fico ne mangia i frutti, chi ha cura del suo padrone ne riceverà onori.	18 Whoever tends the fig tree eats its figs, whoever looks after his master wil be honoured.
19 Come nell’acqua un volto riflette un volto, così il cuore dell’uomo si riflette nell’altro.	19 As water reflects face back to face, so one human heart reflects another.
20 Come il regno dei morti e l’abisso non si saziano mai, così non si saziano mai gli occhi dell’uomo.	20 Sheol and Perdition are never satisfied, insatiable, too, are human eyes.
21 Come il crogiuolo è per l’argento e il forno è per l’oro, così l’uomo rispetto alla bocca di chi lo loda.	21 A furnace for silver, a foundry for gold: a person is worth what his reputation is worth.
22 Anche se tu pestassi lo stolto nel mortaio tra i grani con il pestello, non si allontanerebbe da lui la sua stoltezza.	22 Pound a fool in a mortar, among grain with a pestle, his fol y wil not leave him.
23 Preòccupati dello stato del tuo gregge, abbi cura delle tue mandrie,	23 Know your flocks' condition well, take good care of your herds;
24 perché le ricchezze non sono eterne e una corona non dura per sempre.	24 for riches do not last for ever, crowns do not hand themselves on from age to age.
25 Tolto il fieno, ricresce l’erba nuova e si raccolgono i foraggi sui monti;	25 The grass once gone, the aftergrowth appearing, the hay gathered in from the mountains,
26 gli agnelli ti danno le vesti e i capretti il prezzo per comprare un campo,	26 you should have lambs to clothe you, goats to buy you a field,
27 le capre ti danno latte abbondante per nutrire te, per nutrire la tua famiglia e mantenere le tue domestiche.	27 goat's milk sufficient to feed you, to feed your household and provide for your serving girls.
