1 Così furono portati a compimento il cielo e la terra e tutte le loro schiere.	1 Thus heaven and earth were completed with al their array.
2 Dio, nel settimo giorno, portò a compimento il lavoro che aveva fatto e cessò nel settimo giorno da ogni suo lavoro che aveva fatto.	2 On the seventh day God had completed the work he had been doing. He rested on the seventh dayafter al the work he had been doing.
3 Dio benedisse il settimo giorno e lo consacrò, perché in esso aveva cessato da ogni lavoro che egli aveva fatto creando.	3 God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on that day he rested after al his work ofcreating.
4 Queste sono le origini del cielo e della terra, quando vennero creati. Nel giorno in cui il Signore Dio fece la terra e il cielo	4 Such was the story of heaven and earth as they were created. At the time when Yahweh God madeearth and heaven
5 nessun cespuglio campestre era sulla terra, nessuna erba campestre era spuntata, perché il Signore Dio non aveva fatto piovere sulla terra e non c’era uomo che lavorasse il suolo,	5 there was as yet no wild bush on the earth nor had any wild plant yet sprung up, for Yahweh God hadnot sent rain on the earth, nor was there any man to til the soil.
6 ma una polla d’acqua sgorgava dalla terra e irrigava tutto il suolo.	6 Instead, water flowed out of the ground and watered al the surface of the soil.
7 Allora il Signore Dio plasmò l’uomo con polvere del suolo e soffiò nelle sue narici un alito di vita e l’uomo divenne un essere vivente.	7 Yahweh God shaped man from the soil of the ground and blew the breath of life into his nostrils, andman became a living being.
8 Poi il Signore Dio piantò un giardino in Eden, a oriente, e vi collocò l’uomo che aveva plasmato.	8 Yahweh God planted a garden in Eden, which is in the east, and there he put the man he hadfashioned.
9 Il Signore Dio fece germogliare dal suolo ogni sorta di alberi graditi alla vista e buoni da mangiare, e l’albero della vita in mezzo al giardino e l’albero della conoscenza del bene e del male.	9 From the soil, Yahweh God caused to grow every kind of tree, enticing to look at and good to eat, withthe tree of life in the middle of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
10 Un fiume usciva da Eden per irrigare il giardino, poi di lì si divideva e formava quattro corsi.	10 A river flowed from Eden to water the garden, and from there it divided to make four streams.
11 Il primo fiume si chiama Pison: esso scorre attorno a tutta la regione di Avìla, dove si trova l’oro	11 The first is named the Pishon, and this winds al through the land of Havilah where there is gold.
12 e l’oro di quella regione è fino; vi si trova pure la resina odorosa e la pietra d’ònice.	12 The gold of this country is pure; bdel ium and cornelian stone are found there.
13 Il secondo fiume si chiama Ghicon: esso scorre attorno a tutta la regione d’Etiopia.	13 The second river is named the Gihon, and this winds all through the land of Cush.
14 Il terzo fiume si chiama Tigri: esso scorre a oriente di Assur. Il quarto fiume è l’Eufrate.	14 The third river is named the Tigris, and this flows to the east of Ashur. The fourth river is theEuphrates.
15 Il Signore Dio prese l’uomo e lo pose nel giardino di Eden, perché lo coltivasse e lo custodisse.	15 Yahweh God took the man and settled him in the garden of Eden to cultivate and take care of it.
16 Il Signore Dio diede questo comando all’uomo: «Tu potrai mangiare di tutti gli alberi del giardino,	16 Then Yahweh God gave the man this command, 'You are free to eat of al the trees in the garden.
17 ma dell’albero della conoscenza del bene e del male non devi mangiare, perché, nel giorno in cui tu ne mangerai, certamente dovrai morire».	17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you are not to eat; for, the day you eat of that, youare doomed to die.'
18 E il Signore Dio disse: «Non è bene che l’uomo sia solo: voglio fargli un aiuto che gli corrisponda».	18 Yahweh God said, 'It is not right that the man should be alone. I shal make him a helper.'
19 Allora il Signore Dio plasmò dal suolo ogni sorta di animali selvatici e tutti gli uccelli del cielo e li condusse all’uomo, per vedere come li avrebbe chiamati: in qualunque modo l’uomo avesse chiamato ognuno degli esseri viventi, quello doveva essere il suo nome.	19 So from the soil Yahweh God fashioned al the wild animals and al the birds of heaven. These hebrought to the man to see what he would call them; each one was to bear the name the man would give it.
20 Così l’uomo impose nomi a tutto il bestiame, a tutti gli uccelli del cielo e a tutti gli animali selvatici, ma per l’uomo non trovò un aiuto che gli corrispondesse.	20 The man gave names to al the cattle, al the birds of heaven and all the wild animals. But no helpersuitable for the man was found for him.
21 Allora il Signore Dio fece scendere un torpore sull’uomo, che si addormentò; gli tolse una delle costole e richiuse la carne al suo posto.	21 Then, Yahweh God made the man fal into a deep sleep. And, while he was asleep, he took one of hisribs and closed the flesh up again forthwith.
22 Il Signore Dio formò con la costola, che aveva tolta all’uomo, una donna e la condusse all’uomo.	22 Yahweh God fashioned the rib he had taken from the man into a woman, and brought her to the man.
23 Allora l’uomo disse: «Questa volta è osso dalle mie ossa, carne dalla mia carne. La si chiamerà donna, perché dall’uomo è stata tolta».	23 And the man said: This one at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh! She is to be cal edWoman, because she was taken from Man.
24 Per questo l’uomo lascerà suo padre e sua madre e si unirà a sua moglie, e i due saranno un’unica carne.	24 This is why a man leaves his father and mother and becomes attached to his wife, and they becomeone flesh.
25 Ora tutti e due erano nudi, l’uomo e sua moglie, e non provavano vergogna.	25 Now, both of them were naked, the man and his wife, but they felt no shame before each other.
