BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Dall’Egitto Abram risalì nel Negheb, con la moglie e tutti i suoi averi; Lot era con lui.	1 From Egypt Abram returned to the Negeb with his wife and al he possessed, and Lot with him.
2 Abram era molto ricco in bestiame, argento e oro.	2 Abram was very rich in livestock, silver and gold.
3 Abram si spostò a tappe dal Negheb fino a Betel, fino al luogo dov’era già prima la sua tenda, tra Betel e Ai,	3 By stages he went from the Negeb to Bethel, where he had first pitched his tent, between Bethel andAi,
4 il luogo dove prima aveva costruito l’altare: lì Abram invocò il nome del Signore.	4 at the place where he had formerly erected the altar. There Abram invoked the name of Yahweh.
5 Ma anche Lot, che accompagnava Abram, aveva greggi e armenti e tende,	5 Lot, who was travelling with Abram, had flocks and cattle of his own, and tents too.
6 e il territorio non consentiva che abitassero insieme, perché avevano beni troppo grandi e non potevano abitare insieme.	6 The land was not sufficient to accommodate them both at once, for they had too many possessions tobe able to live together.
7 Per questo sorse una lite tra i mandriani di Abram e i mandriani di Lot. I Cananei e i Perizziti abitavano allora nella terra.	7 Dispute broke out between the herdsmen of Abram's livestock and those of Lot. (The Canaanites andPerizzites were living in the country at the time.)
8 Abram disse a Lot: «Non vi sia discordia tra me e te, tra i miei mandriani e i tuoi, perché noi siamo fratelli.	8 Accordingly Abram said to Lot, 'We do not want discord between us or between my herdsmen andyours, for we are kinsmen.
9 Non sta forse davanti a te tutto il territorio? Sepàrati da me. Se tu vai a sinistra, io andrò a destra; se tu vai a destra, io andrò a sinistra».	9 Is not the whole land open before you? Go in the opposite direction to me: if you take the left, I shalgo right; if you take the right, I shal go left.'
10 Allora Lot alzò gli occhi e vide che tutta la valle del Giordano era un luogo irrigato da ogni parte – prima che il Signore distruggesse Sòdoma e Gomorra – come il giardino del Signore, come la terra d’Egitto fino a Soar.	10 Looking round, Lot saw all the Jordan plain, irrigated everywhere -- this was before Yahwehdestroyed Sodom and Gomorrah-like the garden of Yahweh or the land of Egypt, as far as Zoar.
11 Lot scelse per sé tutta la valle del Giordano e trasportò le tende verso oriente. Così si separarono l’uno dall’altro:	11 So Lot chose all the Jordan plain for himself and moved off eastwards. Thus they parted company:
12 Abram si stabilì nella terra di Canaan e Lot si stabilì nelle città della valle e piantò le tende vicino a Sòdoma.	12 Abram settled in the land of Canaan; Lot settled among the cities of the plain, pitching his tents onthe outskirts of Sodom.
13 Ora gli uomini di Sòdoma erano malvagi e peccavano molto contro il Signore.	13 Now the people of Sodom were vicious and great sinners against Yahweh.
14 Allora il Signore disse ad Abram, dopo che Lot si era separato da lui: «Alza gli occhi e, dal luogo dove tu stai, spingi lo sguardo verso il settentrione e il mezzogiorno, verso l’oriente e l’occidente.	14 Yahweh said to Abram after Lot had parted company from him, 'Look al round from where you are,to north and south, to east and west,
15 Tutta la terra che tu vedi, io la darò a te e alla tua discendenza per sempre.	15 for al the land within sight I shal give to you and your descendants for ever.
16 Renderò la tua discendenza come la polvere della terra: se uno può contare la polvere della terra, potrà contare anche i tuoi discendenti.	16 I shal make your descendants like the dust on the ground; when people succeed in counting thespecks of dust on the ground, then they wil be able to count your descendants too!
17 Àlzati, percorri la terra in lungo e in largo, perché io la darò a te».	17 On your feet! Travel the length and breadth of the country, for I mean to give it to you.'
18 Poi Abram si spostò con le sue tende e andò a stabilirsi alle Querce di Mamre, che sono ad Ebron, e vi costruì un altare al Signore.	18 So Abram moved his tent and went to settle at the Oak of Mamre, at Hebron, and there he built analtar to Yahweh.
