| 1 Filistei dunque avevano radunato tutte le loro schiere ad Afek e Israele era accampato alla fonte che è presso Jizreel. | 1 Now all the troops of the Philistines were gathered together to Aphec: and Israel also camped by the fountain which is in Jezrahel. |
| 2 I principi dei Filistei sfilavano in formazione di cento e di mille, David e i suoi uomini sfilavano, ultimi, con Achish. | 2 And the lords of the Philistines marched with their hundreds and their thousands: but David and his men were in the rear with Achis. |
| 3 Dissero i capi dei Filistei: « Che cosa fanno questi Ebrei? ». Achish rispose ai capi dei Filistei: «Non è costui David servitore di Saul, re di Israele, il quale si: trova presso di me da un'anno o due? Non ho trovato nulla in lui dal giorno della: sua diserzione fino a oggi ». | 3 And the princes of the Philistines said to Achis: What mean these Hebrews? And Achis said to the princes of the Philistines: Do you not know David, who was the servant of Saul the king of Israel, and hath been with me many days, or years, and I have found no fault in him, since the day that he fled over to me until this day? |
| 4 Si adirarono contro di lui i capi dei Filistei e gli dissero: « Fa’ tornate indietro quest’uomo! Ritorni al posto che tu gli hai assegnato e non scenda con noi in battaglia, affinchè non diventi nostro avversario durante il combattimento! Infatti come rientrerà costui nelle grazie del suo signore? Non forse per mezzo delle teste di questi uomini? | 4 But the princes of the Philistines were angry with him, and they said to him: Let this man return, and abide in his place, which thou hast appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest he be an adversary to us, when we shall begin to fight: for how can he otherwise appease his master, but with our heads? |
| 5 Non è costui David per cui nelle danze si intonava il ritornello: “ Saul battè i suoi mille, ma David i suoi diecimila! ”? ». | 5 Is not this David, to whom they sung in their dances, saying: Saul slew his thousands, and David his ten thousands? |
| 6 Achish dovette chiamare David e dirgli: «Per la vita di Jahve! tu sei leale e sarebbe un bene ai miei occhi che tu uscissi ed entrassi con me nell’accampamento, poichè non ho trovato in te nessun male da quando sei venuto da me fino a oggi. Ma agli occhi dei principi tu non sei gradito; | 6 Then Achis called David, and said to him: As the Lord liveth, thou art upright and good in my sight: and so is thy going out, and thy coming in with me in the army: and I have not found my evil in thee, since the day that thou camest to me unto this day: but thou pleasest not the lords. |
| 7 ora dunque torna e va’ in pace, così non farai male agli occhi dei principi dei Filistei ». | 7 Return therefore, and go in peace, and offend not the eyes of the princes of the Philistines. |
| 8 David disse ad Achish: « Che cosa ho fatto e che cosa hai trovato nel tuo servitore da quando sono venuto alla tua presenza fino a oggi, perchè non vada a combattere contro i nemici del mio signore re? ». | 8 And David said to Achis: But what have I done, and what hast thou found in me thy servant, from the day that I have been in thy sight until this day, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king? |
| 9 Achish rispose a David: « Lo sai che tu sei gradito ai miei occhi; ma purtroppo i capi dei Filistei hanno detto: “ Non deve venire con noi in battaglia”. | 9 And Achis answering said to David: I know that thou art good in my sight, as an angel of God: but the princes of the Philistines have said: He shall not go up with us to the battle. |
| 10 Dunque, levati presto domani, tu e i servitori del tuo signore che sono venuti con te: andatevene al posto che vi ho assegnato. Non conservate nel cuore questa cosa da nulla, perchè tu sei gradito a me. Levatevi presto domani, alla prima luce, e partite ». | 10 Therefore arise in the morning, thou, and the servants of thy lord, who came with thee: and when you are up before day, and it shall begin to be light, go on your way. |
| 11 David, con i suoi uomini, si levò presto per partire all’alba e tornare al paese dei Filistei. I Filistei salirono alla volta di Jizreel. | 11 So David and his men arose in the night, that they might set forward in the morning, and returned to the land of the Philistines: and the Philistines went up to Jezrahel. |
