| 1 Gli apostoli e i fratelli abitanti nella Giudea vennero a sapere che anche i pagani avevano accolto l’evangelo. | 1 Now the apostles and the brothers who were in Judea heard that the Gentiles too had accepted the word of God. |
| 2 Perciò, quando Pietro risalì a Gerusalemme, i convertiti dal giudaismo gli mossero questo appunto: | 2 So when Peter went up to Jerusalem the circumcised believers confronted him, |
| 3 «Hai avuto contatti con incirconcisi, hai perfino preso cibo con loro!» | 3 saying, "You entered the house of uncircumcised people and ate with them." |
| 4 Allora Pietro prese a spiegar loro per filo e per segno: | 4 Peter began and explained it to them step by step, saying, |
| 5 «Io mi trovavo a Joppe in preghiera quando fui rapito in visione: scendeva dall’alto un oggetto come una gran tovaglia calata per i quattro capi dal cielo fino a me. | 5 "I was at prayer in the city of Joppa when in a trance I had a vision, something resembling a large sheet coming down, lowered from the sky by its four corners, and it came to me. |
| 6 La osservai attentamente e vidi dentro di essa quadrupedi della terra, bestie, rettili e uccelli del cielo. | 6 Looking intently into it, I observed and saw the four-legged animals of the earth, the wild beasts, the reptiles, and the birds of the sky. |
| 7 Poi sentii una voce dirmi: “Su, Pietro, uccidi e mangia”. | 7 I also heard a voice say to me, 'Get up, Peter. Slaughter and eat.' |
| 8 Io risposi: “Non sia mai, Signore: finora niente d’immondo o d’impuro è entrato nella mia bocca”. | 8 But I said, 'Certainly not, sir, because nothing profane or unclean has ever entered my mouth.' |
| 9 Ma la voce dal cielo parlò una seconda volta: “Ciò che Dio ha purificato cessa anche tu di ritenerlo immondo”. | 9 But a second time a voice from heaven answered, 'What God has made clean, you are not to call profane.' |
| 10 La cosa si ripeté fino a tre volte, poi tutto fu ritirato in cielo. | 10 This happened three times, and then everything was drawn up again into the sky. |
| 11 Ed ecco all’istante tre uomini arrivarono alla casa in cui abitavamo, inviati presso di me da Cesarea. | 11 Just then three men appeared at the house where we were, who had been sent to me from Caesarea. |
| 12 Lo Spirito mi ingiunse di andare con loro senza far distinzioni. Anzi con me vennero questi sei fratelli di fede e tutti ci recammo alla casa dell’uomo. | 12 The Spirit told me to accompany them without discriminating. These six brothers also went with me, and we entered the man's house. |
| 13 Egli ci raccontò di aver visto un angelo giungere in casa sua e dirgli: “Manda a Joppe a far venire Simone soprannominato Pietro. | 13 He related to us how he had seen (the) angel standing in his house, saying, 'Send someone to Joppa and summon Simon, who is called Peter, |
| 14 Egli ti dirà cose che saranno la salvezza tua e di tutta la tua casa”. | 14 who will speak words to you by which you and all your household will be saved.' |
| 15 Ora, mentre io avevo cominciato a parlare, lo Spirito Santo discese su di loro. come già su di noi quella prima volta. | 15 As I began to speak, the holy Spirit fell upon them as it had upon us at the beginning, |
| 16 Allora mi ricordai della parola di Gesù: “Giovanni battezzò con l’acqua mentre voi sarete battezzati con lo Spirito Santo”. | 16 and I remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said, 'John baptized with water but you will be baptized with the holy Spirit.' |
| 17 Se dunque Dio diede loro lo stesso dono che abbiamo avuto noi per aver creduto nel Sgnore Gesù. Cristo, chi ero io per porre ostacoli a Dio?» | 17 If then God gave them the same gift he gave to us when we came to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to be able to hinder God?" |
| 18 Sentito questo, essi non replicarono, anzi lodarono Dio in questo modo: «Quindi Dio ha concesso anche ai pagani il ravvedimento che conduce alla vita». | 18 When they heard this, they stopped objecting and glorified God, saying, "God has then granted life-giving repentance to the Gentiles too." |
| 19 Frattanto quelli che erano stati costretti a fuggire per causa della persecuzione scatenata contro Stefano si trasferirono chi in Fenicia, chi a Cipro, chi ad Antiochia, riservando però l’annunzio della Parola agli Israeliti. | 19 Now those who had been scattered by the persecution that arose because of Stephen went as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to no one but Jews. |
| 20 Nondimeno Cerano alcuni tra loro, oriundi di Cipro e di Cirene, i quali, una volta arrivati ad Antiochia, si rivolsero anche ai pagani e annunziarono loro il Signore Gesù. | 20 There were some Cypriots and Cyrenians among them, however, who came to Antioch and began to speak to the Greeks as well, proclaiming the Lord Jesus. |
| 21 La potenza di Dio li accompagnava, cosicchè un gran numero credette e si convertì al Signore. | 21 The hand of the Lord was with them and a great number who believed turned to the Lord. |
| 22 Quando poi questa notizia arrivò all’orecchio della Chiesa di Gerusalemme, vi fu inviato Barnaba. | 22 The news about them reached the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas (to go) to Antioch. |
| 23 Barnaba arrivò, vide quel gran dono di Dio e ne gioì. Poi si diede a esortarli a restar fedeli a Gesù con tutto lo slancio. | 23 When he arrived and saw the grace of God, he rejoiced and encouraged them all to remain faithful to the Lord in firmness of heart, |
| 24 Era un uomo virtuoso, pieno di Spirito Santo e di fede e una gran moltitudine fu così guadagnata a Gesù. | 24 for he was a good man, filled with the holy Spirit and faith. And a large number of people was added to the Lord. |
| 25 Barnaba in quel periodo si spinse fino a Tarso in cerca di Saulo; | 25 Then he went to Tarsus to look for Saul, |
| 26 lo trovò e lo condusse ad Antiochia. Fu così che essi per un anno intero fecero parte di quella Chiesa e istruirono parecchia gente e ad Antiochia i discepoli incominciarono a prendere il nome di cristiani. | 26 and when he had found him he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they met with the church and taught a large number of people, and it was in Antioch that the disciples were first called Christians. |
| 27 Proprio in quel tempo da Gerusalemme scesero ad Antiochia dei profeti, | 27 At that time some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch, |
| 28 uno dei quali, chiamato Agabo, si alzò e rivelò per divina ispirazione che vi sarebbe stata in tutto l’impero una grande carestia, quella che effettivamente si ebbe al tempo di Claudio. | 28 and one of them named Agabus stood up and predicted by the Spirit that there would be a severe famine all over the world, and it happened under Claudius. |
| 29 Ognuno dei cristiani, nella misura di cui disponeva, stabilì allora di spedite dei soccorsi ai fratelli che risiedevano in Palestina. | 29 So the disciples determined that, according to ability, each should send relief to the brothers who lived in Judea. |
| 30 Ciò realmente fecero con l’inviarli ai presbiteri per mezzo di Barnaba e di Saulo. | 30 This they did, sending it to the presbyters in care of Barnabas and Saul. |
