| 1 Ora tu, figlio dell’uomo, prendi una spara affilata, usane come di un rasoio da barbiere e passala sul tuo capo e sulla tua barba. Presa poi una bilancia, dividerai i peli. | 1 As for you, son of man, take a sharp sword and use it like a barber's razor, passing it over your head and beard. Then take a set of scales and divide the hair you have cut. |
| 2 Appena compiuti i giorni dell’assedio, bruciane un terzo in mezzo alla città; preso un altro terzo, percuotilo con la spada intorno a quella e, infine, disperdi al vento l’ultimo terzo, mentre io snuderò la spada dietro di essi. | 2 Burn a third in the fire, within the city, when the days of your siege are completed; place another third around the city and strike it with the sword; the final third strew in the wind, and pursue it with the sword. |
| 3 Prendine, inoltre, un piccolo numero, che legherai al lembo del tuo mantello. | 3 (But of the last take a small number and tie them in the hem of your garment. |
| 4 Da questi ancora ne prenderai alcuni e li getterai nel fuoco, perchè vi si consumino. Parlerai a tutta la casa di Israele. | 4 Then take some of these and throw them in the midst of the fire and burn them.) Say to the whole house of Israel: |
| 5 Così dice il Signore Jahve: “ Questa Gerusalemme io l’avevo posta al centro delle genti, con i loro territori intorno. | 5 Thus says the Lord GOD: This is Jerusalem! In the midst of the nations I placed her, surrounded by foreign countries. |
| 6 Si è ribellata con perversità ai miei decreti più delle genti e alle mie leggi più delle regioni che le fanno corona, poichè hanno disprezzato i miei decreti e non hanno praticato le mie leggi. | 6 But she rebelled against my ordinances more wickedly than the nations, and against my statutes more than the foreign countries surrounding her; she has spurned my ordinances and has not lived by my statutes. |
| 7 Perciò così dice il Signore Jahve: « Poichè siete stati più ribelli delle genti che vi circondano, non avete seguito le mie leggi, non avete adempiuto i miei decreti e neppure avete agito secondo i costumi di queste genti ”, | 7 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Because you have been more rebellious than the nations surrounding you, not living by my statutes nor fulfilling my ordinances, but acting according to the ordinances of the surrounding nations; |
| 8 per questo, così dice il Signore Jahve: “ Eccomi, a mia volta, contro di te: prenderò su di te la mia giusta vendetta, sotto gli occhi delle genti. | 8 therefore thus says the Lord GOD: See, I am coming at you! I will inflict punishments in your midst while the nations look on. |
| 9 Per tutti i tuoi abomini, compio in te cosa di cui nulla di simile ho mai operato finora nè compirò altra volta. | 9 Because of all your abominations I will do with you what I have never done before, the like of which I will never do again. |
| 10 Perchè in te ci saranno padri che mangeranno i figli e figli che mangeranno i padri. Prenderò così su di te la mia vendetta, disperdendo, quindi, a tutti i venti ciò che rimarrà di te. | 10 This means that fathers within you shall eat sons, and sons shall eat fathers. I will inflict punishments upon you and scatter all that remain of your people in every direction. |
| 11 Perciò: per la mia vita, oracolo del Signore Jahve, poichè hai contaminato il mio santuario con tutti i tuoi orrori e con tutti i tuoi abomini, anch'io raderò, nè il mio occhio si impietosirà; anch’io sarò spietato. | 11 Therefore, as I live, says the Lord GOD, because you have defiled my sanctuary with all your detestable abominations, I swear to cut you down. I will not look upon you with pity nor have mercy. |
| 12 Dei tuoi abitanti, un terzo morirà di peste e sarà consunto dalla fame in mezzo a te; un terzo cadrà di spada nei tuoi dintorni; un terzo, infine, disperderò a tutti i venti snudando dietro di essi la mia spada. | 12 A third of your people shall die of pestilence and perish of hunger within you; another third shall fall by the sword all around you; and a third I will scatter in every direction, and I will pursue them with the sword. |
| 13 Allora si compirà appieno la mia ira, e calmerò su di essi il mio furore: farò così la mia vendetta. Sapranno che io Jahve avevo parlato nella mia gelosia, quando si compirà appieno su di essi il mio furore. | 13 Thus shall my anger spend itself, and I will wreak my fury upon them till I am appeased; they shall know that I, the LORD, have spoken in my jealousy when I spend my fury upon them. |
| 14 Farò di te un deserto oggetto di obbrobrio tra le genti che ti circondano, agli occhi di ogni passante. | 14 I will make you a waste and a reproach among the nations that surround you, which every passer-by may see. |
| 15 Diverrai, infatti, oggetto di obbrobrio e di scherno, di ammaestramento e di stupore per le genti che ti circondano, quando avrò compiuto in te, con ira e furore, con castighi furenti, la mia giusta vendetta; io, Jahve, ho parlato; | 15 When I execute judgment upon you in anger and fury and with furious chastisements, you shall be a reproach and an object of scorn, a terrible warning to the nations that surround you. I, the LORD, have spoken! |
| 16 quando, cioè, scaglierò contro di voi gli strali malefici della fame, apportatori di distruzione, che io scaglierò per distruggervi, e accrescerò tra di voi la fame, così da sottrarvi il bastone del pane; | 16 When I loose against you the cruel, destructive arrows of hunger, I will break your staff of bread; |
| 17 quando, contro di voi, manderò la fame e le bestie feroci che ti rapiranno i figli; quando, in mezzo a te, passeranno la peste e la strage, e farò passare contro di te la spada. Io, Jahve, ho parlato ”». | 17 I will send famine against you, and wild beasts that shall rob you of your children. Pestilence and bloodshed shall stalk through you, and I will bring the sword upon you. I, the LORD, have spoken! |
