1 E avvenne, che essendo Gesù entrato in giorno di sabato nella casa di uno de' principali Farisei per ristorarsi, questi gli tenevano gli occhi addosso.	1 And it happened that, when Jesus entered the house of a certain leader of the Pharisees on the Sabbath to eat bread, they were observing him.
2 Ed eccoti che un certo uomo idropico se gli pose davanti.	2 And behold, a certain man before him was afflicted with edema.
3 E Gesù prese a dire, ai dottori della legge, e ai Farisei: E egli lecito di risanare in giorno di sabato?	3 And responding, Jesus spoke to the experts in the law and to the Pharisees, saying, “Is it lawful to cure on the Sabbath?”
4 Ma quegli si tacquero. Ed egli toccatolo lo risanò, e rimandollo:	4 But they kept silent. Yet truly, taking hold of him, he healed him and sent him away.
5 E soggiunse, e disse loro: Chi di voi, se gli è caduto l'asino, o il bue nel pozzo, non lo trae subito fuora in giorno di sabato?	5 And responding to them, he said, “Which of you will have a donkey or an ox fall into a pit, and will not promptly pull him out, on the day of the Sabbath?”
6 Né a tali cose potevano replicargli.	6 And they were unable to respond to him about these things.
7 Disse ancora a' convitali una parabola, osservando com'ei si pigliavano i primi posti, dicendo loro:	7 Then he also told a parable, to those who were invited, noticing how they chose the first seats at the table, saying to them:
8 Quando sarai invitato a nozze, non ti mettere a sedere nel primo posto, perché a sorte non sia stato invitato da lui quacheduno più degno di te;	8 “When you are invited to a wedding, do not sit down in the first place, lest perhaps someone more honored than yourself may have been invited by him.
9 E quegli, che ha invitato te, e lui, venga a dirti: Cedi a questo il luogo: onde allora tu cominci a star con vergogna nell'ultimo posto:	9 And then he who called both you and him, approaching, may say to you, ‘Give this place to him.’ And then you would begin, with shame, to take the last place.
10 Ma quando sarai invitato, va a metterti nell'ultimo luogo: affinchè venendo, chi ti ha invitato, ti dica: Amico, vieni più in su. Ciò allora ti sia d'onore presso tutti i convitati:	10 But when you are invited, go, sit down in the lowest place, so that, when he who invited you arrives, he may say to you, ‘Friend, go up higher.’ Then you will have glory in the sight of those who sit at table together with you.
11 Imperocché chiunque si innalza, sarà umiliato: e chi si umilia, sarà innalzato.	11 For everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled, and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted.”
12 Diceva di più a colui, che lo aveva invitato: Quando farai qualche pranzo, o cena, non invitare i tuoi amici, né i tuoi fratelli, né i parenti, né i ricchi viccini: perché a sorte ancor essi non invitino te, e ti sia renduto il contraccambio:	12 Then he also said to the one who had invited him: “When you prepare a lunch or dinner, do not choose to call your friends, or your brothers, or your relatives, or your wealthy neighbors, lest perhaps they might then invite you in return and repayment would made to you.
13 Ma quando fai qualche festino, chiama i poveri, gli stroppiati, gli zoppi, e ciechi:	13 But when you prepare a feast, call the poor, the disabled, the lame, and the blind.
14 E sarai fortunato, perché non hanno da renderti il contraccambio: conciossiaché il contraccambio ti sarà reso alla risurrezione de' giusti.	14 And you will be blessed because they do not have a way to repay you. So then, your recompense will be in the resurrection of the just.”
15 Udito questo, dissegli uno de' convitati: Beato colui, che si reficierà nel regno di Dio.	15 When someone sitting at table with him had heard these things, he said to him, “Blessed is he who will eat bread in the kingdom of God.”
16 Ma egli rispose a lui: Un uomo fece una gran cena, e invitò molta gente.	16 So he said to him: “A certain man prepared a great feast, and he invited many.
17 E all'ora della cena mandò un suo servo a dire a' convitati, che andassero, perché tutto era pronto.	17 And he sent his servant, at the hour of the feast, to tell the invited to come; for now everything was ready.
18 E principiarono tutti d'accordo a cullarsi. Il primo dissegli: Ho comprato un podere, e bisogna, che vada a vederlo: di grazia compatiscimi.	18 And at once they all began to make excuses. The first said to him: ‘I bought a farm, and I need to go out and see it. I ask you to excuse me.’
19 E un altro disse: Ho comprato cinque gioghi di buoi, e vo a provarli: di grazia compatiscimi.	19 And another said: ‘I bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to examine them. I ask you to excuse me.’
20 E un altro disse: Ho preso moglie, e perciò non posso venire.	20 And another said, ‘I have taken a wife, and therefore I am not able to go.’
21 E tornato il servo, riferì queste cose al suo padrone. Allora sdegnato il padre di famiglia, disse al suo servo: Va' tosto per le piazze, e per le contrade della città: e mena qua dentro i mendici, gli stroppiati, i ciechi, e gli zoppi.	21 And returning, the servant reported these things to his lord. Then the father of the family, becoming angry, said to his servant: ‘Go out quickly into the streets and neighborhoods of the city. And lead here the poor, and the disabled, and the blind, and the lame.’
22 E disse il servo: Signore, si è fatto, come hai comandato, ed evvi ancora luogo.	22 And the servant said: ‘It has been done, just as you ordered, lord, and there is still room.’
23 E disse il padrone al servo: Va' per le strade, e lungo le siepi: e sforzagli a venire, affinchè si riempia la mie casa.	23 And the lord said to the servant: ‘Go out to the highways and hedges, and compel them to enter, so that my house may be filled.
24 Imperocché vi dico, che nessuno di coloro, che erano stati invitati, assaggerà la mia cena.	24 For I tell you, that none of those men who were invited will taste of my feast.’ ”
25 E andava con lui turba grande di popolo: e si rivolse, e disse loro:	25 Now great crowds traveled with him. And turning around, he said to them:
26 Se uno vien da me, e non odia il padre suo, e la madre, e la moglie, e i figliuoli, e i fratelli, e le sorelle, e fin l'anima sua, non può essere mio discepolo.	26 “If anyone comes to me, and does not hate his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brothers, and sisters, and yes, even his own life, he is not able to be my disciple.
27 E chi non porta la sua croce, e mi siegue, non può essere mio discepolo.	27 And whoever does not bear his cross and come after me, is not able to be my disciple.
28 Imperocché chi di voi fabbricar volendo una torre, non fa prima a tavolino i conti delle spese, che vi vorranno, e se abbia con che finirla;	28 For who among you, wanting to build a tower, would not first sit down and determine the costs that are required, to see if he has the means to complete it?
29 Affinchè, dopo gettate le fondamenta non potendo egli terminarla, non comincino tutti que', che veggono, a burlarsi di lui,	29 Otherwise, after he will have laid the foundation and not been able to finish it, everyone who sees it may begin to mock him,
30 Dicendo: Costui ha principiato a fabbricare, e non ha potuto finire?	30 saying: ‘This man began to build what he was not able to finish.’
31 Ovvero qual è quel re, che stando per muover guerra a un altro re non consulti prima a tavolino, se possa con diecimila uomini andar incontro ad uno, che gli vien contro con ventimila?	31 Or, what king, advancing to engage in war against another king, would not first sit down and consider whether he may be able, with ten thousand, to meet one who comes against him with twenty thousand?
32 Altrimenti mentre questi è tuttora lontano, gli spedisce ambasciadori, e lo prega di pace.	32 If not, then while the other is still far away, sending a delegation, he would ask him for terms of peace.
33 Così adunque chiunque di voi non rinunzia a tutto quel, che possiede, non può essere mio discepolo.	33 Therefore, everyone of you who does not renounce all that he possesses is not able to be my disciple.
34 Buona cosa è il sale: ma se il sale diventa scipito, con che condirassi?	34 Salt is good. But if the salt has lost its flavor, with what will it be seasoned?
35 Non è a proposito né per la terra né per letame: ma sarà gettato via. Chi ha orecchie da intendere, intenda.	35 It is useful neither in soil, nor in manure, so instead, it shall be thrown away. Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear.”
