1 Ma veggendo Balaam, come era di piacimento del Signore, che egli benedicesse Israele, nonandò più come per l'avanti a cercare augurio, ma volgendo il suo sguardo al deserto,	1 Balaam then saw that it pleased Yahweh to bless Israel. He did not go as before to seek omens butturned towards the desert.
2 E alzati gli occhi, vide Israele, che se ne stava sotto le sue tende diviso nelle sue tribù:ed entrato in lui lo spirito di Dio,	2 Raising his eyes Balaam saw Israel settled tribe by tribe; the spirit of God came on him
3 Preso il suo tuono, disse: Parola di Balaam figliuolo di Beor: parola di quell'uomo, che hachiuso l'occhio:	3 and he declaimed his poem, as fol ows: The prophecy of Balaam son of Beor, the prophecy of theman with far-seeing eyes,
4 Parola di colui, che udì i parlari di Dio, che ha vedute visioni dell'Onnipotente, di lui,che cade, e così apre gli occhi:	4 the prophecy of one who hears the words of God. He sees what Shaddai makes him see, receivesthe divine answer, and his eyes are opened.
5 Quanto belli sono i tuoi padiglioni, o Giacobbe, e le tue tende, o Israele!	5 How fair your tents are, Jacob, how fair your dwel ings, Israel,
6 Come valli selvose, come orti presso ad un fiume, che li rinfresca, come i tabernacolipiantali dal Signore, come cedri vicini all'acque.	6 like val eys that stretch afar, like gardens by the banks of a river, like aloes planted by Yahweh, likecedars beside the waters!
7 La sua secchia getterà acqua, e la sua stirpe crescerà in grandi acque. Il suo re saràrigettato a causa di Agag, e sarà a lui tolto il reame.	7 A hero arises from their stock, he reigns over countless peoples. His king is greater than Agag, andhis kingship held in honour.
8 Dio lo ha tratto fuor dell'Egitto, e la fortezza di lui è come quella del rinoceronte. Eidivorerà le genti, che gli sono nemiche, e spezzerà le loro ossa, e le trafiggerà collesaette.	8 God has brought him out of Egypt, is like the wild ox's horns to him. He devours the corpses of hisenemies, breaking their bones, piercing them with his arrows.
9 Si è sdraiato, e dorme come un lione, e come una lionessa, cui nissuno avrà ardir disvegliare. Chi ti benedirà, sarà egli pure benedetto: e chi ti maledirà, sarà tenuto per,maledetto.	9 He has crouched, he has lain down, like a lion, like a lioness; who dare rouse him? Blessed be thosewho bless you, and accursed be those who curse you!
10 Ma Balac sdegnato contro di Balaam, battendo mano con mano, disse: Io ti ho chiamato amaledire i miei nemici, e ormai per la terza volta tu gli hai benedetti:	10 Balak flew into a rage with Balaam. He struck his hands together and said to Balaam, 'I brought youto curse my enemies, and you have insisted on blessing them three times over!
11 Torna donde se' venuto. Io veramente avea stabilito di onorarti grandiosamente: ma ilSignore ti ha privato dell'onore, che ti era preparato.	11 So now go home as fast as your legs can carry you. I promised to load you with honours. Yahwehhimself has deprived you of them.'
12 Rispose Balaam a Balac: Non ho io detto a' nunzii, che tu mi mandasti:	12 Balaam retorted to Balak, 'Did I not tel the messengers you sent me,
13 Quando Balac mi desse la sua casa piena d'argento e d'oro, non potrò io trasgredir la paroladel Signore Dio mio per cavar di mia testa qualche cosa di bene, o di male: ma dirò tuttoquello che avrà detto il Signore?	13 "Even if Balak gave me his house ful of gold and silver I could not go against Yahweh's order anddo anything of my own accord, whether for good or il ; whatever Yahweh says is what I shal say"?
14 Nulladimeno tornandomene a casa mia, darò consiglio di quel che abbia a fare alla fine iltuo popolo a questo popolo.	14 Now that I am going back to my own folk, let me warn you what this people wil do to your people, indays to come.'
15 Profetando adunque di nuovo disse: Parola di Balaam figliuolo di Beor: parola di quell'uomo,che ha chiuso l'occhio:	15 He then declaimed his poem, as fol ows: The prophecy of Balaam son of Beor, the prophecy of theman with far-seeing eyes,
16 Parola di lui, che ha udito i parlari di Dio, che sa la dottrina dell'Altissimo, e vede levisioni dell'Onnipotente, il quale cadendo aperse gli occhi.	16 the prophecy of one who hears the words of God, of one who knows the knowledge of the MostHigh. He sees what Shaddai makes him see, receives the divine answer, and his eyes are opened.
17 Io lo vedrò, ma non ora: fisserò in lui lo sguardo, ma non da vicino: Di Giacobbe nasceràuna stella, e spunterà da Israele una verga, e percuoterà i capi di Moab, e rovinerà tutti ifigliuoli di Seth.	17 I see him -- but not in the present. I perceive him -- but not close at hand: a star is emerging fromJacob, a sceptre is rising from Israel, to strike the brow of Moab, the skul s of al the children of Seth.
18 E l'Idumea sarà suo dominio: l'eredità di Seir andrà a' suoi nemici: ma Israele si porteràcon fortezza.	18 Edom too wil be a conquered land, Seir too wil be a conquered land, when Israel exerts hisstrength,
19 Da Giacobbe verrà il dominatore, e sterminerà gli avanzi della città.	19 when Jacob tramples on his enemies and destroys the last survivors of Ar.
20 E gettato lo sguardo verso Amalec (Balaam) profetando disse: Amalec capo delle nazioni: ilsuo fine è lo sterminio.	20 Balaam then looked at Amalek and declaimed his poem, as fol ows: Amalek, the earliest of nations!But his posterity wil perish forever.
21 Gettò anche lo sguardo verso il Cineo, e profetando disse: Forte è veramente la tua casa: maquando ponessi il tuo nido in un masso,	21 He then looked at the Kenites and declaimed his poem, as fol ows: Your dwel ing was firm, Kain,your nest perched high in the rock.
22 E fossi l'eletto della stirpe di Cin, per quanto tempo potrai tu sussistere? perocchéAssurti prenderà.	22 But the nest belongs to Beor; how long wil you be Asshur's captive?
23 E profetando di nuovo disse: Ahi! chi sarà vivo, quando Dio farà queste cose?	23 He then declaimed his poem, as fol ows: The Sea-people are gathering in the north,
24 Verrà gente sulle navi dall'Italia, vincerà gli Assiri, e desolerà gli Ebrei, ed ella ancorfinalmente perirà.	24 the vessels from the coasts of Kittim. They wil bear down on Asshur, bear down on Eber; he too willperish forever.
25 E Balaam si alzò, e se ne tornò a casa sua: e anche Balac se ne andò per la strada, ond'eravenuto.	25 Balaam then got up, left and went home, and Balak too went his way.
