Siracide 12

BIBBIA MARTINI	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Se tu fai del bene, fa di sapere chi è quegli, a cui tu lo fai e ne' tuoi benefizj avrai molto merito.	1 If you do good, know for whom you are doing it, and your kindness will have its effect.
2 Fa del bene al giusto, e ne avrai gran mercede, e se non da lui, certamente dal Signore.	2 Do good to the just man and reward will be yours, if not from him, from the LORD.
3 Perocché non avrà bene chi fa sempre del male, e non fa limosina; perché l'Altissimo odia i peccatori, e usa misericordia con que', che fan penitenza.	3 No good comes to him who gives comfort to the wicked, nor is it an act of mercy that he does.
4 Sii tu liberale coll'uomo misericordioso, e non accogliere il peccatore; perocché agli empj, ed ai peccatori Dio renderà il loro gastigo serbandogli al giorno della vendetta,	4 Give to the good man, refuse the sinner; refresh the downtrodden, give nothing to the proud man.
5 Sii liberale coll'uom dabbene, e non accogliere il peccatore.	5 No arms for combat should you give him, lest he use them against yourself;
6 Fa del bene all'umile, e non donare all'empio; impedisci, che siagli dato del pane, affinchè con questo egli non ti soverchi:	6 With twofold evil you will meet for every good deed you do for him.
7 Perocché tu troverai doppio male per tutto il bene, che gli farai; perché e l'Altissimo odia i peccatori, e farà vendetta contro degli empj.	7 The Most High himself hates sinners, and upon the wicked he takes vengeance.
8 Non si conosce l'amico nella prosperità: e non resterà celato il nemico nell'avversità.	8 In our prosperity we cannot know our friends; in adversity an enemy will not remain concealed.
9 Quando l'uomo è in prosperità, i suoi nemici sono malinconici; e quand'egli è nell'avversità, si conosce chi è suo amico.	9 When a man is successful even his enemy is friendly; in adversity even his friend disappears.
10 Non ti fidare del tuo nemico giammai; perocché la malizia di lui è come un vaso di rame, che fa la ruggine.	10 Never trust your enemy, for his wickedness is like corrosion in bronze.
11 E se egli si umilia, e si incurva, sta attento, e guardati da lui.	11 Even though he acts humbly and peaceably toward you, take care to be on your guard against him. Rub him as one polishes a brazen mirror, and you will find that there is still corrosion.
12 Non te lo mettere accanto, e non sieda egli alla tua destra, affinchè non avvenga, che rivoltosi egli contro di te cerchi di prendere il tuo posto, onde alla fine tu abbi a capire le mie parole, e li miei avvertimenti ti trafiggano.	12 Let him not stand near you, lest he oust you and take your place. Let him not sit at your right hand, lest he then demand your seat, And in the end you appreciate my advice, when you groan with regret, as I warned you.
13 Chi avrà misericordia dell'incantatore ferito dal serpente, e di tutti quelli, che si accostano alle fiere? cosi sarà di chi si accompagna con un iniquo, e si trova involto ne' peccati di lui.	13 Who pities a snake charmer when he is bitten, or anyone who goes near a wild beast?
14 Per un ora si starà egli con te; ma se tu anderai in declinazione, non reggerà.	14 So is it with the companion of the proud man, who is involved in his sins:
15 Il nimico ha il miele sulle sue labbra; ma in cuor suo va macchinando per condurti nella fossa.	15 While you stand firm, he makes no bold move; but if you slip, he cannot hold back.
16 Piange per gli occhi fuor il nimico; ma se trova l'occasione egli sarà sempre sitibondo di sangue:	16 With his lips an enemy speaks sweetly, but in his heart he schemes to plunge you into the abyss. Though your enemy has tears in his eyes, if given the chance, he will never have enough of your blood.
17 E se ti succederà del male, troverai, che egli ne sarà il primo autore.	17 If evil comes upon you, you will find him at hand; feigning to help, he will trip you up,
18 Piange per gli occhi fuor il nemico, e, come per darti ajuto, darà a' tuoi piedi la spinta.	18 Then he will nod his head and clap his hands and hiss repeatedly, and show his true face.
19 Scuoterà il capo, e batterà palma a palma, e masticando molte cose, cangerà di viso.
