1 Or v'era tra i Farisei uno chiamato Nicodemo, dei capi dei Giudei.	1 There was one of the Pharisees called Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews,
2 Questi andò da Gesù di notte e gli disse: Maestro, noi sappiamo che tu da Dio sei venuto ad insegnare, perchè nessuno può fare i tuoi prodigi, se Dio non è con lui.	2 who came to Jesus by night and said, 'Rabbi, we know that you have come from God as a teacher; forno one could perform the signs that you do unless God were with him.'
3 Gesù gli rispose: In verità, in verità ti dico, che se uno non rinascerà di nuovo non può vedere il regno di Dio.	3 Jesus answered: In al truth I tel you, no one can see the kingdom of God without being born fromabove.
4 Nicodemo gli chiese: Come può un uomo nascere quand'è vecchio? Può forse ritornare nel seno della madre per essere rigenerato?	4 Nicodemus said, 'How can anyone who is already old be born? Is it possible to go back into the wombagain and be born?'
5 Gesù rispose: In verità, in verità ti dico: chi non rinascerà per acqua e Spirito Santo, non può entrare nel regno di Dio.	5 Jesus replied: In al truth I tel you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born throughwater and the Spirit;
6 Ciò che è generato dalla carne è carne, e ciò che nasce dallo spirito è spirito.	6 what is born of human nature is human; what is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 Non ti maravigliare se t'ho détto: bisogna che siate rigenerati di nuovo.	7 Do not be surprised when I say: You must be born from above.
8 Lo spirito dove vuole spira e ne senti la voce e non sai nè donde venga, nè ove vada, così d'ogni nato dallo spirito.	8 The wind blows where it pleases; you can hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from orwhere it is going. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.
9 E come è possibile tutto questo? chiese Nicodemo.	9 'How is that possible?' asked Nicodemus.
10 Gesù gli rispose: Come, tu sei maestro in Israele, e non lo sai?	10 Jesus replied, 'You are the Teacher of Israel, and you do not know these things!
11 In verità, in verità ti dico, che noi parliamo di quel che sappiamo, ed attestiamo quello che abbiamo visto, ma voi non accettate la nostra testimonianza.	11 'In al truth I tel you, we speak only about what we know and witness only to what we have seen and yet you people reject our evidence.
12 Se vi ho parlato di cose terreno e non credete, come crederete se vi parlerò di cose celesti?	12 If you do not believe me when I speak to you about earthly things, how wil you believe me when Ispeak to you about heavenly things?
13 Or nessuno è asceso al cielo se non chi dal cielo discese: il Figlio dell'uomo che è in cielo.	13 No one has gone up to heaven except the one who came down from heaven, the Son of man;
14 E come Mosè nel deserto innalzò il serpente, è necessario che nella stessa guisa sia innalzato il Figlio dell'uomo,	14 as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so must the Son of man be lifted up
15 affinché chiunque crede in lui non perisca, ma abbia la vita eterna.	15 so that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.
16 Così adunque Dio ha amato il mondo che ha dato il suo Figlio Unigenito, affinchè ognuno che crede in lui non perisca, ma abbia la vita eterna.	16 For this is how God loved the world: he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him maynot perish but may have eternal life.
17 Infatti Dio non ha mandato il Figlio suo al mondo per giudicare il mondo, ma perchè il mondo sia per mezzo di lui salvato.	17 For God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but so that through him the world might besaved.
18 Chi crede in lui non è condannato; ma chi non crede è già condannato, perchè non crede nel nome dell'unigenito Figlio di Dio.	18 No one who believes in him wil be judged; but whoever does not believe is judged already, becausethat person does not believe in the Name of God's only Son.
19 E la condanna sta in questo: che la luce è venuta nel mondo e gli uomini amaron più le tenebre della luce, perchè le loro opere eran malvagie.	19 And the judgement is this: though the light has come into the world people have preferred darkness tothe light because their deeds were evil.
20 Infatti chi fa il male odia la luce e alla luce non si accosta, perchè non sian ripreso le opere sue.	20 And indeed, everybody who does wrong hates the light and avoids it, to prevent his actions from beingshown up;
21 Chi invece pratica secondo la verità, si accosta alla luce affinchè siano manifeste le opere sue, che sono fatte secondo Dio.	21 but whoever does the truth comes out into the light, so that what he is doing may plainly appear asdone in God.'
22 Dopo questo Gesù con i suoi discepoli andò nel paese della Giudea; e vi si trattenne con essi, e battezzava.	22 After this, Jesus went with his disciples into the Judaean countryside and stayed with them there andbaptised.
23 Ed anche Giovanni stava a battezzare in Ennon, vicino a Salini, perchè, essendovi abbondanza d'acqua, la gente andava lì a farsi battezzare:	23 John also was baptising at Aenon near Salim, where there was plenty of water, and people were goingthere and were being baptised.
24 Chè Giovanni non era ancora stato messo in prigione.	24 For John had not yet been put in prison.
25 Or nacque disputa tra i discepoli di Giovanni ed i Giudei intorno alla Purificazione.	25 Now a discussion arose between some of John's disciples and a Jew about purification,
26 E andarono da Giovanni e gli dissero: Maestro, colui che era con te oltre il Giordano, cui rendesti testimonianza, ecco, egli battezza, e tutti vanno da lui.	26 so they went to John and said, 'Rabbi, the man who was with you on the far side of the Jordan, theman to whom you bore witness, is baptising now, and everyone is going to him.'
27 Giovanni rispose: L'uomo non può ricevere cosa alcuna se non gli viene data dal cielo.	27 John replied: 'No one can have anything except what is given him from heaven.
28 Voi stessi mi siete testimoni come io dissi: io non sono il Cristo; ma fui mandato innanzi a lui.	28 'You yourselves can bear me out. I said, "I am not the Christ; I am the one who has been sent to go infront of him."
29 E' sposo, chi ha la spòsa: ma l'amico dello sposo, che sta ad ascoltarlo, si riempie di gioia alla voce dello sposo. Tal mio gaudio dunque si è compiuto.	29 'It is the bridegroom who has the bride; and yet the bridegroom's friend, who stands there and listensto him, is fil ed with joy at the bridegroom's voice. This is the joy I feel, and it is complete.
30 Bisogna, che egli cresca ed io diminuisca.	30 He must grow greater, I must grow less.
31 Colui che viene di lassù è sopra di tutti. E chi vien dalla terra alla terra appartiene e parla della terra. Colui che viene dal cielo è sopra tutti.	31 He who comes from above is above al others; he who is of the earth is earthly himself and speaks inan earthly way. He who comes from heaven
32 Ed egli attesta cose che ha vedute e udite, eppure nessuno accetta la sua testimonianza.	32 bears witness to the things he has seen and heard, but his testimony is not accepted by anybody;
33 Ma chi l'accetta afferma che Dio è verace.	33 though anyone who does accept his testimony is attesting that God is true,
34 Quello mandato da Dio parla parole di Dio, perchè Dio non gli dà lo Spirito con misura.	34 since he whom God has sent speaks God's own words, for God gives him the Spirit without reserve.
35 Il Padre ama il Figlio e nelle sue mani ha posto ogni cosa.	35 The Father loves the Son and has entrusted everything to his hands.
36 Chi crede nel Figlio ha la vita eterna, ma chi non crede nel Figlio non vedrà la vita, chè anzi l'ira di Dio rimane su di lui.	36 Anyone who believes in the Son has eternal life, but anyone who refuses to believe in the Son willnever see life: God's retribution hangs over him.'
