| 1 Così dice il Signore: « Il cielo è mio trono, e la terra è sgabello dei miei piedi: che è questa casa che voi mi edificherete, e che è questo luogo del mio riposo? | 1 Thus says the LORD: "Heaven is my throne and the earth is my footstool; what is the house which you would build for me, and what is the place of my rest? |
| 2 Queste cose le ha fatte tutte la mia mano, sono state fatte tutte — dice il Signore. — Ma a chi volgerò lo sguardo, se non al poverello, al contrito di cuore che trema alla mia parola? | 2 All these things my hand has made, and so all these things are mine, says the LORD. But this is the man to whom I will look, he that is humble and contrite in spirit, and trembles at my word. |
| 3 Chi immola un bue è come chi uccide un uomo, chi sacrifica una pecora è come chi toglie il cervello ad un cane, chi offre l'oblazione, come chi offre sangue di porco, chi si ricorda dell'incenso, come chi benedice un idolo. Tutte queste cose essi hanno scelte nelle loro vie, la loro anima ha trovate le sue delizie nelle abominazioni. | 3 "He who slaughters an ox is like him who kills a man; he who sacrifices a lamb, like him who breaks a dog's neck; he who presents a cereal offering, like him who offers swine's blood; he who makes a memorial offering of frankincense, like him who blesses an idol. These have chosen their own ways, and their soul delights in their abominations; |
| 4 Ebbene anch'io sceglierò i loro scherni, manderò ad essi il loro spavento, perchè ho chiamato, e nessuno ha risposto, ho parlato e non han dato ascolto: han fatto il male sotto i miei occhi, hanno scelto ciò che io non volevo. | 4 I also will choose affliction for them, and bring their fears upon them; because, when I called, no one answered, when I spoke they did not listen; but they did what was evil in my eyes, and chose that in which I did not delight." |
| 5 Ascoltate la parola del Signore, voi che tremate alla sua parola: han detto i vostri fratelli che vi odiano e vi ripudiano a causa del mio nome: « Mostri la sua gloria il Signore, e lo riconosceremo nella vostra gioia »; ma essi saranno confusi. | 5 Hear the word of the LORD, you who tremble at his word: "Your brethren who hate you and cast you out for my name's sake have said, 'Let the LORD be glorified, that we may see your joy'; but it is they who shall be put to shame. |
| 6 Rumore di popolo dalla città, rumore dal tempio: è la voce del Signore che paga i suoi nemici. | 6 "Hark, an uproar from the city! A voice from the temple! The voice of the LORD, rendering recompense to his enemies! |
| 7 Prima d'avere le doglie essa ha partorito, prima del tempo di partorire ha dato alla luce un maschio. | 7 "Before she was in labor she gave birth; before her pain came upon her she was delivered of a son. |
| 8 Chi mai udì tali cose? E chi vide cosa simile a questa? Può forse la terra partorire in un sol giorno, e può esser partorito tutto insieme un popolo, chè Sion, appena in doglie, ha dati alla luce i suoi figli? | 8 Who has heard such a thing? Who has seen such things? Shall a land be born in one day? Shall a nation be brought forth in one moment? For as soon as Zion was in labor she brought forth her sons. |
| 9 Forse non potrò partorire io che fo partorire gli altri — dice il Signore. — Io, che do agli altri di generare, sarò sterile? — dice il Signore Dio tuo. | 9 Shall I bring to the birth and not cause to bring forth? says the LORD; shall I, who cause to bring forth, shut the womb? says your God. |
| 10 Rallegratevi con Gerusalemme, esultate per lei, voi tutti che l'amate, rallegratevi con lei di vera gioia, voi tutti che per lei piangete. | 10 "Rejoice with Jerusalem, and be glad for her, all you who love her; rejoice with her in joy, all you who mourn over her; |
| 11 Così voi succhierete e sarete saziati alle mammelle della sua consolazione e trarrete abbondanti delizie dalla sua molteplice gloria. | 11 that you may suck and be satisfied with her consoling breasts; that you may drink deeply with delight from the abundance of her glory." |
| 12 Infatti così dice il Signore: « Ecco io riverserò sopra di lei come un fiume di pace, e, come un torrente che inonda, la gloria delle nazioni: voi la succhierete, portati sul suo seno, e sulle ginocchia sarete accarezzati. | 12 For thus says the LORD: "Behold, I will extend prosperity to her like a river, and the wealth of the nations like an overflowing stream; and you shall suck, you shall be carried upon her hip, and dandled upon her knees. |
| 13 Come una madre accarezza il bambino, così io consolerò voi, e sarete consolati in Gerusalemme. | 13 As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; you shall be comforted in Jerusalem. |
| 14 Voi lo vedrete, e il vostro cuore sarà nella gioia, e le vostre ossa come erba riprenderanno vigore, e la mano del Signore si farà conoscere ai suoi servi, e farà provare il suo sdegno ai suoi nemici. | 14 You shall see, and your heart shall rejoice; your bones shall flourish like the grass; and it shall be known that the hand of the LORD is with his servants, and his indignation is against his enemies. |
| 15 Perché ecco che il Signore verrà nel fuoco, sopra cocchio simile al turbine, per spandere con sdegno il suo furore e la sua minaccia con fiamme di fuoco. | 15 "For behold, the LORD will come in fire, and his chariots like the stormwind, to render his anger in fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire. |
| 16 Perchè il Signore giudicherà nel fuoco e colla sua spada ogni carne, e il numero degli uccisi dal Signore sarà grande. | 16 For by fire will the LORD execute judgment, and by his sword, upon all flesh; and those slain by the LORD shall be many. |
| 17 Quelli che si santificavano e credevan di farsi puri nei giardini, dietro la porta, nell'interno, quei che mangiavano carne di porco e cose abominevoli e topi, periran tutti insieme — dice il Signore. — | 17 "Those who sanctify and purify themselves to go into the gardens, following one in the midst, eating swine's flesh and the abomination and mice, shall come to an end together, says the LORD. |
| 18 Or io (vengo a mettere insieme) le loro opere e i loro pensieri, a raccoglierli con tutte le nazioni, con tutte le lingue. E verranno e vedranno la mia gloria. | 18 "For I know their works and their thoughts, and I am coming to gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come and shall see my glory, |
| 19 E alzerò in mezzo ad essi una bandiera, e di essi quelli che saran salvati li manderò alle nazioni: in mare, in Africa, alla Lidia, che scoccan saette, in Italia, in Grecia, verso le isole lontane, a genti che non han mai sentito parlar di me e non han veduta la mia gloria. Essi annunzieranno la mia gloria alle nazioni. | 19 and I will set a sign among them. And from them I will send survivors to the nations, to Tarshish, Put, and Lud, who draw the bow, to Tubal and Javan, to the coastlands afar off, that have not heard my fame or seen my glory; and they shall declare my glory among the nations. |
| 20 E ricondurranno tutti i vostri fratelli da tutte le nazioni, come dono al Signore, su cavalli, su cocchi, su lettighe, su muli, su carretti, alla mia santa montagna di Gerusalemme — dice il Signore — come quando i figli d'Israele portano un dono in vaso puro alla casa del Signore. | 20 And they shall bring all your brethren from all the nations as an offering to the LORD, upon horses, and in chariots, and in litters, and upon mules, and upon dromedaries, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, says the LORD, just as the Israelites bring their cereal offering in a clean vessel to the house of the LORD. |
| 21 E fra questi io sceglierò dei sacerdoti e dei leviti — dice il Signore. — | 21 And some of them also I will take for priests and for Levites, says the LORD. |
| 22 E (come i nuovi cieli e la nuova terra io li farò stare davanti a me — dice il Signore — così starà la vostra stirpe e il nome vostro. | 22 "For as the new heavens and the new earth which I will make shall remain before me, says the LORD; so shall your descendants and your name remain. |
| 23 E di mese in mese, di sabato in sabato verrà ogni carne a prostrarsi dinanzi a me — dice il Signore. — | 23 From new moon to new moon, and from sabbath to sabbath, all flesh shall come to worship before me, says the LORD. |
| 24 Usciranno e vedranno i cadaveri di coloro che han prevaricato contro di me: il loro verme non morrà, il loro fuoco non si estinguerà, e il vederli farà nausea ad ogni carne ». | 24 "And they shall go forth and look on the dead bodies of the men that have rebelled against me; for their worm shall not die, their fire shall not be quenched, and they shall be an abhorrence to all flesh." |
