Esodo 33

BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 E il Signore parlò a Mosè e disse: « Va, sali da questo luogo col tuo popolo che hai tratto dalla terra d'Egitto, verso il paese che promisi con giuramento ad Abramo, a Isacco, a Giacobbe, dicendo: Io la darò alla tua posterità.	1 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Leave, move on from here, you and the people whom you have broughthere from Egypt, to the country that I swore to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that I would give to their descendants.
2 Io poi manderò dinanzi a te un angelo a cacciare il Cananeo, l'Amorreo, l'Eteo, il Ferezeo, l'Eveo, il Gebuseo,	2 I shal send an angel in front of you and drive out the Canaanites, the Amorites, the Hittites, thePerizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites.
3 affìnchè tu possa entrare nella terra che stilla latte e miele. Io però non salirò teco, perchè sei un popolo di dura cervice, e ti sterminerei per via ».	3 Move on towards a country flowing with milk and honey, but I myself shal not be going with you or Imight annihilate you on the way, for you are an obstinate people.'
4 I1 popolo come ebbe sentite queste dure parole, pianse, e nessuno si mise i propri ornamenti.	4 On hearing these stern words the people went into mourning and no one wore his ornaments.
5 E il Signore disse a Mosè: « Di' ai figli d'Israele: Sei un popolo di dura cervice, se io venissi per una sola volta in mezzo a te ti sterminerei. Per ora deponi i tuoi ornamenti, e così vedrò come ti debba trattare ».	5 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Say to the Israelites, "You are an obstinate people. If I were to go withyou even for a moment, I should annihilate you. So now take off your ornaments, and then I shal decide how todeal with you!" '
6 E i figli d'Israele deposero i loro ornamenti dal monte Oreb in poi.	6 So, from Mount Horeb onwards, the Israelites stripped themselves of their ornaments.
7 E Mosè, preso il Tabernacolo, lo tese in lontananza, fuori degli accampamenti e lo chiamò il Tabernacolo dell'alleanza. Così tutti quelli del popolo che avevan qualche questione, andavano al Tabernacolo dell'alleanza fuori degli accampamenti.	7 Moses used to take the Tent and pitch it outside the camp, far away from the camp. He called it theTent of Meeting. Anyone who wanted to consult Yahweh would go out to the Tent of Meeting, outside the camp.
8 E quando Mosè usciva per andare al Tabernacolo, tutto il popolo si alzava, e ciascuno stava fermo sulla porta della sua tenda, seguendo collo sguardo Mosè, finché non fosse entralo nel Tabernacolo.	8 Whenever Moses went out to the Tent, the people would al stand up and every man would stand atthe door of his tent and watch Moses until he went into the Tent.
9 E appena era entralo nel Tabernacolo dell'alleanza, la colonna di nuvola scendeva e si fermava alla porta, o Dio parlava con Mosè,	9 And whenever Moses went into the Tent, the pil ar of cloud would come down and station itself at theentrance to the Tent, while Yahweh spoke with Moses.
10 mentre tutti miravano la colonna di nuvola ferma all'entrata del Tabernacolo. Allora il popolo restava immobile, adorando ciascuno il Signore, prostrato all'ingresso della propria tenda.	10 The people could al see the pil ar of cloud stationed at the entrance to the Tent and the people wouldal stand up and bow low, each at the door of his tent.
11 E il Signore parlava con Mosè faccia a faccia, come l'uomo suol parlare col proprio amico. E quando Mosè tornava agli accampamenti, il suo giovane ministro Giosuè, figlio di Nun, non si moveva dal Tabernacolo.	11 Yahweh would talk to Moses face to face, as a man talks to his friend, and afterwards he would comeback to the camp, but the young man who was his servant, Joshua son of Nun, never left the inside of the Tent.
12 E Mosè disse al Signore: « Ecco, tu mi comandi di condurre questo popolo, e non mi fai conoscere colui che man derai meco, dopo avermi detto: Ti conosco personalmente, e tu hai trovato grazia davanti a me.	12 Moses said to Yahweh, 'Look, you say to me, "Make the people move on," but you have not told mewhom you are going to send with me, although you have said, "I know you by name and you enjoy my favour."
13 Se dunque io ho trovato grazia nel tuo cospetto, fammi veder la tua faccia, affinchè io ti conosca e trovi grazia dinanzi agli occhi tuoi: riguarda come tuo popolo questa nazione ».	13 If indeed I enjoy your favour, please show me your ways, so that I understand you and continue toenjoy your favour; consider too that this nation is your people.'
14 E il Signore disse: « La mia presenza ti precederà, ed io ti darò riposo ».	14 Yahweh then said, 'I myself shall go with you and I shall give you rest.'
15 E Mosè: « Se tu stesso non vai innanzi, non ci far partire di qui.	15 To which he said, 'If you do not come yourself, do not make us move on from here,
16 Da che infatti io e il popolo potremo conoscere di aver trovata grazia nel tuo cospetto, se tu non vieni con noi, affinchè siamo glorificati da tutti i popoli della terra? »	16 for how can it be known that I and my people enjoy your favour, if not by your coming with us? By thiswe shal be marked out, I and your people, from al the peoples on the face of the earth.'
17 E il Signore disse a Mosè: « Farò anche questo che tu chiedi, perchè tu hai trovato grazia davanti a me e ti conosco personalmente ».	17 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Again I shal do what you have asked, because you enjoy my favourand because I know you by name.'
18 E Mosè disse: « Fammi veder la tua gloria! »	18 He then said, 'Please show me your glory.'
19 Rispose il Signore: « Io ti mostrerò ogni bene, e pronunzierò dinanzi a te il nome del Signore; e avrò misericordia di chi vorrò, e sarò clemente verso chi mi piace ».	19 Yahweh said, 'I shal make al my goodness pass before you, and before you I shal pronounce thename Yahweh; and I am gracious to those to whom I am gracious and I take pity on those on whom I take pity.
20 E aggiunse: « Non potrai veder la mia faccia, perchè l'uomo non può vedermi e restar vivo ».	20 But my face', he said, 'you cannot see, for no human being can see me and survive.'
21 E soggiunse: « Ecco un luogo a me vicino: tu sta su quella pietra,	21 Then Yahweh said, 'Here is a place near me. You will stand on the rock,
22 e quando la mia gloria passerà, io ti nasconderò in una fessura della roccia e ti coprirò colla mia destra finché io non sia passato;	22 and when my glory passes by, I shal put you in a cleft of the rock and shield you with my hand until Ihave gone past.
23 poi ritirerò la mano e vedrai il mio tergo; ma la mia faccia non potrai vederla ».	23 Then I shal take my hand away and you will see my back; but my face wil not be seen.'
