| 1 Quando il re, avendogli il Signore conceduto riposo da ogni parte da tutti i suoi nemici, si fu stabilito nella sua casa, | 1 Now when the king dwelt in his house, and the LORD had given him rest from all his enemies round about, |
| 2 disse al profeta Natan: « Vedi? Io abito in una casa di cedro e l'arca di Dio sta sotto una tenda di pelli ». | 2 the king said to Nathan the prophet, "See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells in a tent." |
| 3 Natan disse al re: «Va e fa tutto quello che hai nel cuore; perchè il Signore è teco ». | 3 And Nathan said to the king, "Go, do all that is in your heart; for the LORD is with you." |
| 4 Ma in quella stessa notte la parola del Signore si fece sentire a Natan, e disse: | 4 But that same night the word of the LORD came to Nathan, |
| 5 « Va a dire al mio servo David: Queste cose dice il Signore: Sarai tu che mi edificherai una casa, perchè vi abiti? | 5 "Go and tell my servant David, 'Thus says the LORD: Would you build me a house to dwell in? |
| 6 Veramente io non ho dimorato in una casa dal giorno in cui trassi i figli d'Israele dalla terra d'Egitto fino ad oggi; ma son passato da un luogo ad un altro sotto un Tabernacolo e sotto una tenda. | 6 I have not dwelt in a house since the day I brought up the people of Israel from Egypt to this day, but I have been moving about in a tent for my dwelling. |
| 7 In tutti i luoghi pei quali son passato con tutti i figli d'Israele, ho forse detto ad una delle tribù a cui ho ordinato di pascere il mio popolo Israele: Perchè non mi avete fatto una casa di cedro? | 7 In all places where I have moved with all the people of Israel, did I speak a word with any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd my people Israel, saying, "Why have you not built me a house of cedar?"' |
| 8 Or dunque di così al mio servo David: Queste cose dice il Signore Dio degli eserciti: Io ti tolsi dalla pastura, di dietro alle pecore, per farti re del mio popolo Israele; | 8 Now therefore thus you shall say to my servant David, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, that you should be prince over my people Israel; |
| 9 sono stato con te ovunque sei andato; ho sterminato dinanzi a te tutti i tuoi nemici, e ti ho fatto un nome grande come il nome dei grandi che sono sulla terra. | 9 and I have been with you wherever you went, and have cut off all your enemies from before you; and I will make for you a great name, like the name of the great ones of the earth. |
| 10 Io darò una dimora fissa al mio popolo Israele, lo pianterò; egli vi abiterà senza esser più agitato, e i figli d'iniquità non torneranno ad affliggerlo come prima, | 10 And I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be disturbed no more; and violent men shall afflict them no more, as formerly, |
| 11 come dal giorno in cui stabilii dei giudici sopra il mio popolo Israele. E a te darò riposo da tutti i tuoi nemici. Il Signore ti predice che lui ti farà una casa: | 11 from the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel; and I will give you rest from all your enemies. Moreover the LORD declares to you that the LORD will make you a house. |
| 12 quando saran compiuti i tuoi giorni, e tu dormirai con i tuoi padri, io susciterò dopo di te il tuo figlio che da te nascerà e renderò stabile il suo regno; | 12 When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come forth from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. |
| 13 egli edificherà una casa al mio Nome, ed io stabilirò in sempiterno il trono del suo regno; | 13 He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever. |
| 14 Io gli sarò padre ed egli mi sarà figlio. Se poi facesse qualche cosa d'iniquo, io lo castigherò con verga d'uomo e con battiture di figli degli uomini; | 14 I will be his father, and he shall be my son. When he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, with the stripes of the sons of men; |
| 15 ma non torrò da lui la mia misericordia, come la tolsi da Saul che rimossi dal mio cospetto. | 15 but I will not take my steadfast love from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you. |
| 16 La tua casa sarà fedele, il tuo regno sarà eterno dinanzi a te, il tuo trono sarà stabilito per sempre ». | 16 And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure for ever before me; your throne shall be established for ever.'" |
| 17 Così parlò Natan a David, secondo tutte queste parole e secondo tutta questa visione. | 17 In accordance with all these words, and in accordance with all this vision, Nathan spoke to David. |
| 18 Il re David entrò, e stette davanti al Signore, e disse: « Chi son io, o Signore, e che è la mia casa, perchè tu mi abbia condotto fino a questo punto? | 18 Then King David went in and sat before the LORD, and said, "Who am I, O Lord GOD, and what is my house, that thou hast brought me thus far? |
| 19 Eppure, anche questo è sembrato poco nel tuo cospetto, o Signore Dio: tu hai voluto parlare anche della casa del tuo servo per un lungo avvenire, secondo la legge d'Adamo, o Signore Dio. | 19 And yet this was a small thing in thy eyes, O Lord GOD; thou hast spoken also of thy servant's house for a great while to come, and hast shown me future generations, O Lord GOD! |
| 20 Che potrà dire di più David per parlarti ancora? Tu, o Signore Dio, conosci il tuo servo. | 20 And what more can David say to thee? For thou knowest thy servant, O Lord GOD! |
| 21 Per amor della tua parola, e secondo il tuo cuore hai fatto tutte queste grandi cose, e di più le hai fatte sapere anche al tuo servo. | 21 Because of thy promise, and according to thy own heart, thou hast wrought all this greatness, to make thy servant know it. |
| 22 Ecco perchè sei magnificato, Signore Dio, perchè nessuno è simile a te, e non v'è alcun Dio fuori di te, secondo tutto quello che noi abbiamo udito colle nostre orecchie. | 22 Therefore thou art great, O LORD God; for there is none like thee, and there is no God besides thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears. |
| 23 E qual nazione è sulla terra uguale al tuo popolo Israele che Dio andò a riscattare come suo popolo, per farsi un nome, operando in mezzo ad essi cose grandi e terribili sopra la terra, nel cospetto del tuo popolo che ti sei riscattato dall'Egitto, colpendo una nazione e il suo dio? | 23 What other nation on earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem to be his people, making himself a name, and doing for them great and terrible things, by driving out before his people a nation and its gods? |
| 24 Tu infatti hai stabilito il popolo d'Israele per tuo popolo in sempiterno, e tu, Signore Dio, sei divenuto loro Dio. | 24 And thou didst establish for thyself thy people Israel to be thy people for ever; and thou, O LORD, didst become their God. |
| 25 Or dunque, Signore Dio, mantieni per sempre la parola che tu hai detta sopra il tuo servo e sopra la su casa, e fa come hai parlato. | 25 And now, O LORD God, confirm for ever the word which thou hast spoken concerning thy servant and concerning his house, and do as thou hast spoken; |
| 26 Che il tuo nome sia magnificato in sempiterno, e si dica: Il Signore degli eserciti è Dio sopra Israele! Che la casa del tuo servo David sia stabile davanti al Signore! | 26 and thy name will be magnified for ever, saying, 'The LORD of hosts is God over Israel,' and the house of thy servant David will be established before thee. |
| 27 Siccome tu, Signore degli eserciti, Dio d'Israele, hai rivelato all'orecchio del tuo servo ed hai detto: Io ti edificherò una casa, per questo il tuo servo ha avuto il cuore di farti questa preghiera. | 27 For thou, O LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, hast made this revelation to thy servant, saying, 'I will build you a house'; therefore thy servant has found courage to pray this prayer to thee. |
| 28 Or dunque, Signore Dio, essendo tu Dio, le tue parole son veritiere, giacché hai dette al tuo servo queste buone cose, | 28 And now, O Lord GOD, thou art God, and thy words are true, and thou hast promised this good thing to thy servant; |
| 29 comincia fin da ora a benedire la casa del tuo servo, affinchè essa sussista per sempre dinanzi a te; e quando tu, Signore Dio, hai parlato, colla tua benedizione sarà benedetta la casa del tuo servo in eterno ». | 29 now therefore may it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee; for thou, O Lord GOD, hast spoken, and with thy blessing shall the house of thy servant be blessed for ever." |
