BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 - Ed il Signore parlò a Mosè, e gli disse:	1 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,
2 «Fa' prima la vendetta de' figli d'Israele sui Madianiti, e poi ti riunirai co' tuoi antenati».	2 'Exact the ful vengeance for the Israelites on the Midianites. Afterwards you will be gathered to yourpeople.'
3 Subito Mosè disse: «Armate di fra voi alla battaglia quelli che possono eseguire sui Madianiti la vendetta del Signore.	3 Moses said to the people, 'Some of you are to take up arms for Yahweh's campaign against Midian,to carry out the vengeance of Yahweh on Midian.
4 Si scelgano da Israele mille uomini per ogni tribù, per mandarli alla guerra».	4 You will put a thousand men in the field from each of the tribes of Israel.'
5 Furon dunque levati mille uomini di ciascuna tribù, cioè dodicimila uomini allestiti per la battaglia.	5 In this way Israel's thousands provided twelve thousand men equipped for war, one thousand fromeach tribe:
6 E Mosè li mandò con Fines figlio del sacerdote Eleazaro, dandogli anche i vasi santi, e le trombe da squillare.	6 Moses put them in the field, one thousand from each tribe, with Phinehas, son of the priest Eleazar,to go with them carrying the sacred objects and the trumpets for the battle cry.
7 Avendo quelli combattuto contro i Madianiti e vintili, uccisero tutti i loro maschi,	7 They made war on Midian, as Yahweh had ordered Moses, and put every male to death.
8 ed i re Evi, Recem, Sur, Hur e Rebe, i cinque principi della nazione; uccisero di spada anche Balaam figlio di Beor.	8 What is more, they kil ed the kings of Midian, Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur and Reba, the five Midianite kings;they also put Balaam son of Beor to the sword.
9 Portaron via le donne, i fanciulli, gli animali tutti, tutta la suppellettile, saccheggiarono quanto poterono avere,	9 The Israelites took the Midianite women and their little ones captive and carried off al their cattle, altheir flocks and al their goods as booty.
10 misero a fuoco e fiamme le città, i borghi, i castelli.	10 They set fire to the towns where they lived and to al their encampments.
11 La preda, e tutto quel che avevano preso d'uomini e di animali, lo portarono	11 Then, taking al their booty, everything they had captured, human and animal,
12 e lo presentarono a Mosè e ad Eleazaro sacerdote, e a tutta l'assemblea de' figli d'Israele; il resto, lo portarono agli alloggiamenti, nelle pianure di Moab, lungo il Giordano di faccia a Gerico.	12 they brought the captives, spoil and booty to Moses, the priest Eleazar and the whole community ofIsraelites at the camp on the Plains of Moab, near the Jordan by Jericho.
13 Ora, Mosè ed Eleazaro sacerdote e tutti i capi della sinagoga uscirono incontro a loro, fuori degli accampamenti.	13 Moses, the priest Eleazar and al the leaders of the community went out of the camp to meet them.
14 E sdegnato Mosè coi capi dell'esercito, tribuni e centurioni che tornavano dalla guerra,	14 Moses was enraged with the officers of the army, the commanders of the thousands andcommanders of the hundreds, who had come back from this military expedition.
15 disse: «Perchè avete risparmiato le donne?	15 He said, 'Why have you spared the life of al the women?
16 non furon esse che sedussero i figli d'Israele, conforme al suggerimento di Balaam, e vi fecero prevaricare contro il Signore, col peccato di Fogor pel quale fu poi flagellato il popolo?	16 They were the very ones who, on Balaam's advice, caused the Israelites to be unfaithful to Yahwehin the affair at Peor: hence the plague which struck Yahweh's community.
17 Uccidete dunque i maschi tutti, anche i bambini, e le donne che hanno conosciuto uomo;	17 So kil al the male children and kil al the women who have ever slept with a man;
18 riserbatevi tutte le bambine e le vergini;	18 but spare the lives of the young girls who have never slept with a man, and keep them foryourselves.
19 poi, rimanete fuori dagli accampamenti per sette giorni. Chi ha ucciso un uomo, o ne ha toccato il cadavere si purificherà al terzo giorno ed al settimo.	19 As for you, bivouac outside the camp for seven days, everyone who has kil ed anyone or touched acorpse. Purify yourselves and your prisoners on the third and seventh days,
20 Di tutta la preda, qualunque vestimento o vaso o arnese di pelli di capra, o di pelo, o di legno, verrà purificato».	20 and purify al clothing, everything made of skin, everything woven of goat's hair and everythingmade of wood.'
21 Eleazaro sacerdote disse inoltre a quelli dell'esercito che avevan combattuto: «Ecco quel che ordina la legge data dal Signore a Mosè:	21 The priest Eleazar said to the soldiers who had come back from the campaign, 'This is an article ofthe Law which Yahweh prescribed to Moses:
22 L'oro, l'argento, il bronzo, il ferro, il piombo, lo stagno,	22 although gold, silver, bronze, iron, tin and lead,
23 e tutto quello che può reggere alla fiamma, sarà mondato col fuoco; quello poi che non può reggere al fuoco sarà purificato con l'acqua de' espiazione.	23 everything that can withstand fire can be cleaned by being passed through fire, it must stil bepurified with water for purification. Whatever cannot resist fire you must pass through water.
24 Vi laverete le vesti il giorno settimo, e così purificati rientrerete negli accampamenti».	24 'Wash your clothes on the seventh day and you wil then be clean. You may then re-enter the camp.'
25 Disse poi il Signore a Mosè:	25 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:
26 «Tu, Eleazaro sacerdote ed i capi del popolo, fate il novero di tutto quello che è stato preso, dagli uomini sino agli animali;	26 'With the priest Eleazar and the heads of families in the community, take a count of the spoils andcaptives, human and animal.
27 e farai della preda due parti eguali, per quelli che son usciti in guerra ed han combattuto, e per tutto il resto della moltitudine.	27 You wil then share out the spoil, half and half, between those who fought the campaign and the restof the community.
28 Di sulla parte di quelli che combatterono e andarono in guerra, preleverai per il Signore un capo su cinquecento, tanto degli uomini quanto dei bovi, degli asini, delle pecore,	28 From the share of the combatants who took part in the campaign, you wil set aside one out of everyfive hundred persons, oxen, donkeys and sheep as Yahweh's portion.
29 e li darai ad Eleazaro sacerdote, perchè sono le primizie del Signore.	29 You wil take this from the half share coming to them and give it to the priest Eleazar as the portionset aside for Yahweh.
30 Di sull'altra metà che è pei figli di Israele, prenderai un capo su cinquanta, degli uomini, bovi, asini, pecore ed ogni altro animale, e li darai ai leviti che vegliano a guardia del tabernacolo del Signore».	30 From the half coming to the Israelites, you will take one out of every fifty persons, oxen, donkeys,sheep, and al other animals, and give them to the Levites who are responsible for Yahweh's Dwel ing.'
31 Fecero dunque Mosè ed Eleazaro come il Signore aveva comandato.	31 Moses and the priest Eleazar did as Yahweh had ordered Moses.
32 Ora, la preda fatta dall'esercito fu di seicentosettantacinquemila pecore,	32 The spoils, the remainder of the booty captured by the soldiers, came to six hundred and seventy-five thousand sheep and goats,
33 settantaduemila bovi,	33 seventy-two thousand head of cattle,
34 sessantunmila asini,	34 sixty-one thousand donkeys,
35 e trentaduemila fanciulle che non avevan conosciuto uomo.	35 and in persons, women who had never slept with a man, thirty-two thousand in al .
36 Ne fu data metà a quelli che erano andati alla guerra; cioè trecentotrentasettemila e cinquecento pecore,	36 Half was assigned to those who had taken part in the war, namely three hundred and thirty-seventhousand five hundred sheep and goats,
37 delle quali ne furon riserbate seicentosettantacinque come parte del Signore;	37 of which Yahweh's portion was six hundred and seventy-five,
38 similmente settantadue bovi su trentaseimila,	38 thirty-six thousand head of cattle, of which Yahweh's portion was seventy-two,
39 e sessantun asini su trentamilacinquecento;	39 thirty thousand five hundred donkeys, of which Yahweh's portion was sixty-one,
40 delle sedicimila creature umane, trentadue toccarono come parte al Signore.	40 and sixteen thousand persons, of which Yahweh's portion was thirty-two.
41 E Mosè, come gli era stato comandato, consegnò ad Eleazaro sacerdote il numero delle primizie del Signore,	41 Moses gave the priest Eleazar the portion set aside for Yahweh, as Yahweh had ordered Moses.
42 prese di sulla metà della preda de' figli d'Israele, messa da parte per quelli che avevan combattuto.	42 As for the half coming to the Israelites which Moses had separated from that of the combatants,
43 Della metà poi che spettava alla rimanente moltitudine, cioè delle trecentotrentasettemila e cinquecento pecore,	43 this half, the community's share, came to three hundred and thirty-seven thousand five hundredsheep and goats,
44 dei trentaseimila bovi,	44 thirty-six thousand head of cattle,
45 dei trentamilacinquecento asini,	45 thirty thousand five hundred donkeys
46 e delle sedicimila creature umane,	46 and sixteen thousand persons.
47 prese Mosè il cinquantesimo, e lo dette ai leviti che facevano servizio nel tabernacolo del Signore, come il Signore aveva comandato.	47 From this half, the Israelites' share, Moses took one out of every fifty, human and animal, and gavethem to the Levites who were responsible for Yahweh's Dwel ing, as Yahweh had ordered Moses.
48 Essendo poi venuti a Mosè i capi dell'esercito, tribuni e centurioni, gli dissero:	48 The officers of the thousands who had fought the campaign, the commanders of the thousands andcommanders of the hundreds, came to Moses
49 «Noi tuoi servi abbiamo fatto l'appello dei combattenti che furon sotto di noi, e nemmeno uno è mancato.	49 and said, 'Your servants have numbered the soldiers under their command: none of our men ismissing.
50 Per questo, offriamo in dono al Signore quel che ciascuno di noi ha potuto trovare d'oro nella preda, catenelle, cinture, anelli, braccialetti, collane, perchè tu preghi per noi il Signore».	50 So, as an offering for Yahweh, we have brought what each of us has found in the way of goldornaments, armlets and bracelets, rings, earrings and breastplates, to make expiation for ourselves beforeYahweh.'
51 Ricevettero dunque Mosè ed Eleazaro tutto quell'oro di diverse specie	51 Moses and the priest Eleazar accepted this gold from them, al this jewel ery.
52 dai tribuni e dai centurioni, ed era del peso di sedicimila e settecentocinquanta sicli.	52 This portion of gold given to Yahweh by the commanders of the thousands and commanders of thehundreds amounted to sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels.
53 Poichè quello che ciascuno nella preda aveva preso, era suo.	53 Each of the soldiers took his own booty.
54 E ricevuto quell'oro, lo misero nel tabernacolo della testimonianza, perchè fosse come un monumento de' figli d'Israele innanzi al Signore.	54 But Moses and the priest Eleazar, having accepted the gold from the commanders of the thousandsand commanders of the hundreds, brought it into the Tent of Meeting, to be a reminder of the Israelites beforeYahweh.
