| 1 - Gli abitanti di Gerusalemme costituirono re in sua vece Ocozia, il minore de' suoi figli, poichè tutti quelli che erano maggiori di lui in età erano stati uccisi dai predoni Arabi, che avevano fatto un'irruzione nell'accampamento. Così regnò Ocozia figlio di Joram, re di Giuda. | 1 And the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in his stead; for the band of men that came with the Arabs to the camp had slain all the older sons. So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned. |
| 2 Ocozia aveva quarantadue anni quando salì al trono e ne regnò uno in Gerusalemme; sua madre aveva nome Atalia, figlia di Amri. | 2 Ahaziah was forty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Athaliah, the granddaughter of Omri. |
| 3 Anche egli si incamminò nelle vie della casa di Acab, poichè sua madre lo spingeva ad agire empiamente. | 3 He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab, for his mother was his counselor in doing wickedly. |
| 4 Fece quindi il male al cospetto del Signore, come la casa di Acab, dalla quale per sua propria rovina si scelse, dopo la morte del padre suo, i consiglieri. | 4 He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, as the house of Ahab had done; for after the death of his father they were his counselors, to his undoing. |
| 5 Trascinato dai loro consigli, mosse in compagnia di Joram, figlio di Acab, re d'Israele, guerra ad Azael, re di Siria, in Ramot di Galaad; i Siri ferirono Joram, | 5 He even followed their counsel, and went with Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to make war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth-gilead. And the Syrians wounded Joram, |
| 6 il quale, avendo riportato molte ferite in quel combattimento se ne tornò in Jezrael per farsi curare. E Ocozia, figlio di Joram, re di Giuda, discese colà per visitare Joram, figlio di Acab, ammalato in Jezrael. | 6 and he returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which he had received at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. And Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick. |
| 7 L'andata di Ocozia da Joram fu, per volontà di Dio, la sua rovina, perchè, come fu arrivato colà, uscì con Joram contro Jeu figlio di Namsi, che era stato consacrato dal Signore per sterminare la casa di Acab. | 7 But it was ordained by God that the downfall of Ahaziah should come about through his going to visit Joram. For when he came there he went out with Jehoram to meet Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom the LORD had anointed to destroy the house of Ahab. |
| 8 Mentre dunque Jeu distruggeva la casa di Acab, incontrò i principi di Giuda e i figli dei fratelli di Ocozia, i quali erano al suo servizio, e li uccise. | 8 And when Jehu was executing judgment upon the house of Ahab, he met the princes of Judah and the sons of Ahaziah's brothers, who attended Ahaziah, and he killed them. |
| 9 E avendo cercato lo stesso Ocozia, lo sorprese in Samaria dove era nascosto, e fattolo venire innanzi, lo uccise; gli fu poi data sepoltura, perchè era figlio di Josafat che aveva cercato il Signore con tutto il suo cuore; nè restava altra speranza che uno della stirpe di Ocozia regnasse; | 9 He searched for Ahaziah, and he was captured while hiding in Samaria, and he was brought to Jehu and put to death. They buried him, for they said, "He is the grandson of Jehoshaphat, who sought the LORD with all his heart." And the house of Ahaziah had no one able to rule the kingdom. |
| 10 perchè la madre di lui, Atalia, visto che era morto il suo figliuolo, si levò e uccise tutta la discendenza reale della casa di Joram. | 10 Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal family of house of Judah. |
| 11 Josabet però, figlia del re, aveva preso Joas, figlio di Ocozia, e l'aveva trafugato di mezzo ai figli del re, mentre venivano uccisi e l'aveva nascosto con la sua nutrice nella camera dei letti. Ora Josabet, che l'aveva nascosto, era figlia del re Joram, moglie del sommo sacerdote Joiada e sorella di Ocozia. Perciò Atalia non lo uccise. | 11 But Jeho-shabe-ath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king's sons who were about to be slain, and she put him and his nurse in a bedchamber. Thus Jeho-shabe-ath, the daughter of King Jehoram and wife of Jehoiada the priest, because she was a sister of Ahaziah, hid him from Athaliah, so that she did not slay him; |
| 12 Egli restò nascosto con essi nella casa di Dio per sei anni, durante i quali Atalia regnò nel paese. | 12 and he remained with them six years, hid in the house of God, while Athaliah reigned over the land. |
