Prima lettera a Timoteo 2

BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Raccomando dunque, prima di tutto, che si facciano domande, suppliche, preghiere e ringraziamenti per tutti gli uomini,	1 I urge then, first of al that petitions, prayers, intercessions and thanksgiving should be offered foreveryone,
2 per i re e per tutti quelli che stanno al potere, perché possiamo condurre una vita calma e tranquilla, dignitosa e dedicata a Dio.	2 for kings and others in authority, so that we may be able to live peaceful and quiet lives with al devotionand propriety.
3 Questa è cosa bella e gradita al cospetto di Dio, nostro salvatore,	3 To do this is right, and acceptable to God our Saviour:
4 il quale vuole che tutti gli uomini siano salvati e giungano alla conoscenza della verità.	4 he wants everyone to be saved and reach full knowledge of the truth.
5 Uno solo, infatti, è Dio e uno solo anche il mediatore fra Dio e gli uomini, l’uomo Cristo Gesù,	5 For there is only one God, and there is only one mediator between God and humanity, himself a humanbeing, Christ Jesus,
6 che ha dato se stesso in riscatto per tutti. Questa testimonianza egli l’ha data nei tempi stabiliti,	6 who offered himself as a ransom for al . This was the witness given at the appointed time,
7 e di essa io sono stato fatto messaggero e apostolo – dico la verità, non mentisco –, maestro dei pagani nella fede e nella verità.	7 of which I was appointed herald and apostle and -- I am telling the truth and no lie -- a teacher of thegentiles in faith and truth.
8 Voglio dunque che in ogni luogo gli uomini preghino, alzando al cielo mani pure, senza collera e senza polemiche.	8 In every place, then, I want the men to lift their hands up reverently in prayer, with no anger or argument.
9 Allo stesso modo le donne, vestite decorosamente, si adornino con pudore e riservatezza, non con trecce e ornamenti d’oro, perle o vesti sontuose,	9 Similarly, women are to wear suitable clothes and to be dressed quietly and modestly, without braidedhair or gold and jewellery or expensive clothes;
10 ma, come conviene a donne che onorano Dio, con opere buone.	10 their adornment is to do the good works that are proper for women who claim to be religious.
11 La donna impari in silenzio, in piena sottomissione.	11 During instruction, a woman should be quiet and respectful.
12 Non permetto alla donna di insegnare né di dominare sull’uomo; rimanga piuttosto in atteggiamento tranquillo.	12 I give no permission for a woman to teach or to have authority over a man. A woman ought to be quiet,
13 Perché prima è stato formato Adamo e poi Eva;	13 because Adam was formed first and Eve afterwards,
14 e non Adamo fu ingannato, ma chi si rese colpevole di trasgressione fu la donna, che si lasciò sedurre.	14 and it was not Adam who was led astray but the woman who was led astray and fell into sin.
15 Ora lei sarà salvata partorendo figli, a condizione di perseverare nella fede, nella carità e nella santificazione, con saggezza.	15 Nevertheless, she will be saved by child-bearing, provided she lives a sensible life and is constant infaith and love and holiness.
