BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Ora Gerico era sbarrata e sprangata davanti agli Israeliti; nessuno usciva né entrava.	1 Now, Jericho had shut and barricaded its gates (against the Israelites): no one came out and no onewent in.
2 Disse il Signore a Giosuè: «Vedi, consegno in mano tua Gerico e il suo re, pur essendo essi prodi guerrieri.	2 Yahweh then said to Joshua, 'Look, I am putting Jericho, its picked troops and its king, at your mercy.
3 Voi tutti idonei alla guerra, girerete intorno alla città, percorrendo una volta il perimetro della città. Farete così per sei giorni.	3 Al you warriors must march round the city (go right round the city once, doing the same on sixsuccessive days.
4 Sette sacerdoti porteranno sette trombe di corno d’ariete davanti all’arca; il settimo giorno, poi, girerete intorno alla città per sette volte e i sacerdoti suoneranno le trombe.	4 Seven priests must carry seven ram's-horn trumpets in front of the ark. On the seventh day, you wil goseven times round the city and the priests wil blow their trumpets).
5 Quando si suonerà il corno d’ariete, appena voi sentirete il suono della tromba, tutto il popolo proromperà in un grande grido di guerra, allora le mura della città crolleranno e il popolo salirà, ciascuno diritto davanti a sé».	5 When the ram's horn sounds (when you hear the sound of the trumpet), the entire people must utter amighty war cry and the city wall wil col apse then and there; the people wil then go into the assault, each manstraight ahead.'
6 Giosuè, figlio di Nun, convocò i sacerdoti e disse loro: «Portate l’arca dell’alleanza; sette sacerdoti portino sette trombe di corno d’ariete davanti all’arca del Signore».	6 Joshua son of Nun summoned the priests and said to them, 'Take up the ark of the covenant, and letseven priests carry seven ram's-horn trumpets ahead of the ark of Yahweh.'
7 E al popolo disse: «Mettetevi in marcia e girate intorno alla città e il gruppo armato passi davanti all’arca del Signore».	7 To the people he then said, 'Forward! March round the city, and let the vanguard march ahead of theark of Yahweh!'
8 Come Giosuè ebbe parlato al popolo, i sette sacerdoti, che portavano le sette trombe di corno d’ariete davanti al Signore, si mossero e suonarono le trombe, mentre l’arca dell’alleanza del Signore li seguiva.	8 (Everything was done as Joshua had given orders to the people.) Seven priests, carrying seven ram's-horn trumpets ahead of Yahweh, moved forward blowing their trumpets; the ark of the covenant of Yahwehcame behind them,
9 Il gruppo armato marciava davanti ai sacerdoti che suonavano le trombe e la retroguardia seguiva l’arca; si procedeva al suono delle trombe.	9 the vanguard marched ahead of the priests, who blew their trumpets, the rearguard fol owed behind theark; the men marched, the trumpets sounded.
10 Giosuè aveva dato quest’ordine al popolo: «Non lanciate il grido di guerra, non alzate la voce e non esca parola dalla vostra bocca fino al giorno in cui vi dirò di gridare. Allora griderete».	10 Joshua had given the people the fol owing orders, 'Do not raise a war cry, do not let your voice be heard (not a word must pass your lips), until the day when I say, "Raise the war cry." That is when you mustraise the war cry.'
11 L’arca del Signore girò intorno alla città, percorrendone il perimetro una volta. Poi tornarono nell’accampamento e passarono la notte nell’accampamento.	11 He made the ark go round the city (going round it once), then they went back to camp, where theyspent the night.
12 Di buon mattino Giosuè si alzò e i sacerdoti portarono l’arca del Signore;	12 Joshua got up early, and the priests took up the ark of Yahweh.
13 i sette sacerdoti, che portavano le sette trombe di corno d'ariete davanti all’arca del Signore, procedevano suonando le trombe. Il gruppo armato marciava davanti a loro e la retroguardia seguiva l’arca del Signore; si procedeva al suono delle trombe.	13 Carrying the seven ram's-horn trumpets, the seven priests walked ahead of the ark of Yahweh,blowing their trumpets as they went, while the vanguard marched ahead of them and the rearguard behind theark of Yahweh, and the march went on to the sound of the trumpet.
14 Il secondo giorno girarono intorno alla città una volta e tornarono poi all’accampamento. Così fecero per sei giorni.	14 They marched once round the city (on the second day) and went back to camp; and so on for six days.
15 Il settimo giorno si alzarono allo spuntare dell’alba e girarono intorno alla città sette volte, secondo questo cerimoniale; soltanto in quel giorno fecero sette volte il giro intorno alla città.	15 On the seventh day, they got up at dawn and marched (in the same manner) round the city seventimes. (This was the only day when they marched round the city seven times.)
16 Alla settima volta i sacerdoti diedero fiato alle trombe e Giosuè disse al popolo: «Lanciate il grido di guerra, perché il Signore vi consegna la città.	16 At the seventh time, the priests blew their trumpets and Joshua said to the people, 'Raise the war cry,for Yahweh has given you the city!
17 Questa città, con quanto vi è in essa, sarà votata allo sterminio per il Signore. Rimarrà in vita soltanto la prostituta Raab e chiunque è in casa con lei, perché ha nascosto i messaggeri inviati da noi.	17 'The city and everyone in it must be devoted to Yahweh under the curse of destruction; the life ofRahab the prostitute alone must be spared, with al those with her in her house, since she hid the messengerswe sent.
18 Quanto a voi, guardatevi da ciò che è votato allo sterminio: mentre operate la distruzione, non prendete nulla di ciò che è votato allo sterminio, altrimenti rendereste votato allo sterminio l’accampamento d’Israele e gli arrechereste una disgrazia.	18 But beware of the curse of destruction, yourselves, for fear that, moved by greed, you take somethinglying under the curse; that would put the camp of Israel under the same curse and bring disaster on it.
19 Tutto l’argento e l’oro e gli oggetti di bronzo e di ferro sono consacrati al Signore: devono entrare nel tesoro del Signore».	19 All the silver and all the gold, everything made of bronze or iron, wil be consecrated to Yahweh andput in his treasury.'
20 Il popolo lanciò il grido di guerra e suonarono le trombe. Come il popolo udì il suono della tromba e lanciò un grande grido di guerra, le mura della città crollarono su se stesse; il popolo salì verso la città, ciascuno diritto davanti a sé, e si impadronirono della città.	20 The people raised the war cry, the trumpets sounded. When the people heard the sound of thetrumpet, they raised a mighty war cry and the wal col apsed then and there. At once the people stormed the city,each man going straight forward; and they captured the city.
21 Votarono allo sterminio tutto quanto c’era in città: uomini e donne, giovani e vecchi, buoi, pecore e asini, tutto passarono a fil di spada.	21 They enforced the curse of destruction on everyone in the city: men and women, young and old,including the oxen, the sheep and the donkeys, slaughtering them all.
22 Giosuè aveva detto ai due uomini che avevano esplorato la terra: «Entrate nella casa della prostituta, conducetela fuori con quanto le appartiene, come le avete giurato».	22 Joshua said to the two men who had reconnoitred the country, 'Go into the prostitute's house, andbring the woman out with al who belong to her, as you swore to her that you would.'
23 Quei giovani esploratori entrarono e condussero fuori Raab, suo padre, sua madre, i suoi fratelli e quanto le apparteneva. Fecero uscire tutti quelli della sua famiglia e li posero fuori dell’accampamento d’Israele.	23 The young men who had been spies went and brought Rahab out, with her father and mother andbrothers and al who belonged to her. They brought out all her clansmen too, and put them in a place of safetyoutside the camp of Israel.
24 Incendiarono poi la città e quanto vi era dentro. Destinarono però l’argento, l’oro e gli oggetti di bronzo e di ferro al tesoro del tempio del Signore.	24 They burned the city and everything inside it, except the silver, the gold and the things of bronze andiron; these they put into the treasury of Yahweh's house.
25 Giosuè lasciò in vita la prostituta Raab, la casa di suo padre e quanto le apparteneva. Ella è rimasta in mezzo a Israele fino ad oggi, per aver nascosto gli inviati che Giosuè aveva mandato a esplorare Gerico.	25 But Rahab the prostitute, her father's family and al who belonged to her, these Joshua spared. She isstill living in Israel even today, for having hidden the messengers whom Joshua sent to reconnoitre Jericho.
26 In quella circostanza Giosuè fece giurare: «Maledetto davanti al Signore l’uomo che si metterà a ricostruire questa città di Gerico! Sul suo primogenito ne getterà le fondamenta e sul figlio minore ne erigerà le porte!».	26 At that time Joshua made them take this oath before Yahweh: Accursed before Yahweh be the manwho rises up and rebuilds this city (Jericho)! On his first-born wil he lay its foundations, on his youngest son setup its gates!
27 Il Signore fu con Giosuè, la cui fama si sparse in tutta la regione.	27 So Yahweh was with Joshua, whose fame spread throughout the country.
