1 Il primo giorno della settimana, al mattino presto esse si recarono al sepolcro, portando con sé gli aromi che avevano preparato.	1 Then, on the first Sabbath, at very first light, they went to the tomb, carrying the aromatic spices that they had prepared.
2 Trovarono che la pietra era stata rimossa dal sepolcro	2 And they found the stone rolled back from the tomb.
3 e, entrate, non trovarono il corpo del Signore Gesù.	3 And upon entering, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
4 Mentre si domandavano che senso avesse tutto questo, ecco due uomini presentarsi a loro in abito sfolgorante.	4 And it happened that, while their minds were still confused about this, behold, two men stood beside them, in shining apparel.
5 Le donne, impaurite, tenevano il volto chinato a terra, ma quelli dissero loro: «Perché cercate tra i morti colui che è vivo?	5 Then, since they were afraid and were turning their faces toward the ground, these two said to them: “Why do you seek the living with the dead?
6 Non è qui, è risorto. Ricordatevi come vi parlò quando era ancora in Galilea	6 He is not here, for he has risen. Recall how he spoke to you, when he was still in Galilee,
7 e diceva: “Bisogna che il Figlio dell’uomo sia consegnato in mano ai peccatori, sia crocifisso e risorga il terzo giorno”».	7 saying: ‘For the Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again.’ ”
8 Ed esse si ricordarono delle sue parole	8 And they called to mind his words.
9 e, tornate dal sepolcro, annunciarono tutto questo agli Undici e a tutti gli altri.	9 And returning from the tomb, they reported all these things to the eleven, and to all the others.
10 Erano Maria Maddalena, Giovanna e Maria madre di Giacomo. Anche le altre, che erano con loro, raccontavano queste cose agli apostoli.	10 Now it was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary of James, and the other women who were with them, who told these things to the Apostles.
11 Quelle parole parvero a loro come un vaneggiamento e non credevano ad esse.	11 But these words seemed to them a delusion. And so they did not believe them.
12 Pietro tuttavia si alzò, corse al sepolcro e, chinatosi, vide soltanto i teli. E tornò indietro, pieno di stupore per l’accaduto.	12 But Peter, rising up, ran to the tomb. And stooping down, he saw the linen cloths positioned alone, and he went away wondering to himself about what had happened.
13 Ed ecco, in quello stesso giorno due di loro erano in cammino per un villaggio di nome Èmmaus, distante circa undici chilometri da Gerusalemme,	13 And behold, two of them went out, on the same day, to a town named Emmaus, which was the distance of sixty stadia from Jerusalem.
14 e conversavano tra loro di tutto quello che era accaduto.	14 And they spoke to one another about all of these things that had occurred.
15 Mentre conversavano e discutevano insieme, Gesù in persona si avvicinò e camminava con loro.	15 And it happened that, while they were speculating and questioning within themselves, Jesus himself, drawing near, traveled with them.
16 Ma i loro occhi erano impediti a riconoscerlo.	16 But their eyes were restrained, so that they would not recognize him.
17 Ed egli disse loro: «Che cosa sono questi discorsi che state facendo tra voi lungo il cammino?». Si fermarono, col volto triste;	17 And he said to them, “What are these words, which you are discussing with one another, as you walk and are sad?”
18 uno di loro, di nome Clèopa, gli rispose: «Solo tu sei forestiero a Gerusalemme! Non sai ciò che vi è accaduto in questi giorni?».	18 And one of them, whose name was Cleopas, responded by saying to him, “Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?”
19 Domandò loro: «Che cosa?». Gli risposero: «Ciò che riguarda Gesù, il Nazareno, che fu profeta potente in opere e in parole, davanti a Dio e a tutto il popolo;	19 And he said to them, “What things?” And they said, “About Jesus of Nazareth, who was a noble prophet, powerful in works and in words, before God and all the people.
20 come i capi dei sacerdoti e le nostre autorità lo hanno consegnato per farlo condannare a morte e lo hanno crocifisso.	20 And how our high priests and leaders handed him over to be condemned to death. And they crucified him.
21 Noi speravamo che egli fosse colui che avrebbe liberato Israele; con tutto ciò, sono passati tre giorni da quando queste cose sono accadute.	21 But we were hoping that he would be the Redeemer of Israel. And now, on top of all this, today is the third day since these things have happened.
22 Ma alcune donne, delle nostre, ci hanno sconvolti; si sono recate al mattino alla tomba	22 Then, too, certain women from among us terrified us. For before daytime, they were at the tomb,
23 e, non avendo trovato il suo corpo, sono venute a dirci di aver avuto anche una visione di angeli, i quali affermano che egli è vivo.	23 and, having not found his body, they returned, saying that they had even seen a vision of Angels, who said that he is alive.
24 Alcuni dei nostri sono andati alla tomba e hanno trovato come avevano detto le donne, ma lui non l’hanno visto».	24 And some of us went out to the tomb. And they found it just as the women had said. But truly, they did not find him.”
25 Disse loro: «Stolti e lenti di cuore a credere in tutto ciò che hanno detto i profeti!	25 And he said to them: “How foolish and reluctant in heart you are, to believe everything that has been spoken by the Prophets!
26 Non bisognava che il Cristo patisse queste sofferenze per entrare nella sua gloria?».	26 Was not the Christ required to suffer these things, and so enter into his glory?”
27 E, cominciando da Mosè e da tutti i profeti, spiegò loro in tutte le Scritture ciò che si riferiva a lui.	27 And beginning from Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted for them, in all the Scriptures, the things that were about him.
28 Quando furono vicini al villaggio dove erano diretti, egli fece come se dovesse andare più lontano.	28 And they drew near to the town were they were going. And he conducted himself so as to go on further.
29 Ma essi insistettero: «Resta con noi, perché si fa sera e il giorno è ormai al tramonto». Egli entrò per rimanere con loro.	29 But they were insistent with him, saying, “Remain with us, because it is toward evening and now daylight is declining.” And so he entered with them.
30 Quando fu a tavola con loro, prese il pane, recitò la benedizione, lo spezzò e lo diede loro.	30 And it happened that, while he was at table with them, he took bread, and he blessed and broke it, and he extended it to them.
31 Allora si aprirono loro gli occhi e lo riconobbero. Ma egli sparì dalla loro vista.	31 And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And he vanished from their eyes.
32 Ed essi dissero l’un l’altro: «Non ardeva forse in noi il nostro cuore mentre egli conversava con noi lungo la via, quando ci spiegava le Scritture?».	32 And they said to one another, “Was not our heart burning within us, while he was speaking on the way, and when he opened the Scriptures to us?”
33 Partirono senza indugio e fecero ritorno a Gerusalemme, dove trovarono riuniti gli Undici e gli altri che erano con loro,	33 And rising up at that same hour, they returned to Jerusalem. And they found the eleven gathered together, and those who were with them,
34 i quali dicevano: «Davvero il Signore è risorto ed è apparso a Simone!».	34 saying: “In truth, the Lord has risen, and he has appeared to Simon.”
35 Ed essi narravano ciò che era accaduto lungo la via e come l’avevano riconosciuto nello spezzare il pane.	35 And they explained the things that were done on the way, and how they had recognized him at the breaking of the bread.
36 Mentre essi parlavano di queste cose, Gesù in persona stette in mezzo a loro e disse: «Pace a voi!».	36 Then, while they were talking about these things, Jesus stood in their midst, And he said to them: “Peace be with you. It is I. Do not be afraid.”
37 Sconvolti e pieni di paura, credevano di vedere un fantasma.	37 Yet truly, they were very disturbed and terrified, supposing that they saw a spirit.
38 Ma egli disse loro: «Perché siete turbati, e perché sorgono dubbi nel vostro cuore?	38 And he said to them: “Why are you disturbed, and why do these thoughts rise up in your hearts?
39 Guardate le mie mani e i miei piedi: sono proprio io! Toccatemi e guardate; un fantasma non ha carne e ossa, come vedete che io ho».	39 See my hands and feet, that it is I myself. Look and touch. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones, as you see that I have.”
40 Dicendo questo, mostrò loro le mani e i piedi.	40 And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet.
41 Ma poiché per la gioia non credevano ancora ed erano pieni di stupore, disse: «Avete qui qualche cosa da mangiare?».	41 Then, while they were still in disbelief and in wonder out of joy, he said, “Do you have anything here to eat?”
42 Gli offrirono una porzione di pesce arrostito;	42 And they offered him a piece of roasted fish and a honeycomb.
43 egli lo prese e lo mangiò davanti a loro.	43 And when he had eaten these in their sight, taking up what was left, he gave it to them.
44 Poi disse: «Sono queste le parole che io vi dissi quando ero ancora con voi: bisogna che si compiano tutte le cose scritte su di me nella legge di Mosè, nei Profeti e nei Salmi».	44 And he said to them: “These are the words that I spoke to you when I was still with you, because all things must be fulfilled which are written in the law of Moses, and in the Prophets, and in the Psalms about me.”
45 Allora aprì loro la mente per comprendere le Scritture	45 Then he opened their mind, so that they might understand the Scriptures.
46 e disse loro: «Così sta scritto: il Cristo patirà e risorgerà dai morti il terzo giorno,	46 And he said to them: “For so it is written, and so it was necessary, for the Christ to suffer and to rise up from the dead on the third day,
47 e nel suo nome saranno predicati a tutti i popoli la conversione e il perdono dei peccati, cominciando da Gerusalemme.	47 and, in his name, for repentance and the remission of sins to be preached, among all the nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
48 Di questo voi siete testimoni.	48 And you are witnesses of these things.
49 Ed ecco, io mando su di voi colui che il Padre mio ha promesso; ma voi restate in città, finché non siate rivestiti di potenza dall’alto».	49 And I am sending the Promise of my Father upon you. But you must stay in the city, until such time as you are clothed with power from on high.”
50 Poi li condusse fuori verso Betània e, alzate le mani, li benedisse.	50 Then he led them out as far as Bethania. And lifting up his hands, he blessed them.
51 Mentre li benediceva, si staccò da loro e veniva portato su, in cielo.	51 And it happened that, while he was blessing them, he withdrew from them, and he was carried up into heaven.
52 Ed essi si prostrarono davanti a lui; poi tornarono a Gerusalemme con grande gioia	52 And worshiping, they returned to Jerusalem with great joy.
53 e stavano sempre nel tempio lodando Dio.	53 And they were always in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
